His Umbreon tilted her head, and yet he couldn’t help but think of the Eevee he had lost, but it wasn’t as if she was a replacement, she was stronger, older, and a little more ruthless. ”You’re doing well, so then Temp. How do you want to do this? I ain’t been pokefishing in a while, you got any water types? Umbreon’ll keep them healthy, and we’ll…Get a good meal?”

Sadly it seemed like Temp and Kouji Matsubara had finally found something they didn't agree with. Temp loved being in nature. He loved the outdoors. He loved the water and the smell of the earth![break][break]

The Kouji opens his mouth.[break][break]

Temp's finger plucks one of many Dive Balls from his belt. He tosses out a Sharpedo. Marina lingers in the shallow water, glancing curiously between Kouji and the Umbreon.[break][break]

"I used to be a Gym Leader. The water type Gym Leader." Slowly, Temp turns his head to level Kouji with a very unimpressed stare.[break][break]

"My dad is also a fisherman. I'm from Pacifidlog, dude." Even if Temp was only half, he was still half Hoyeon; one of the last tribes of Native Hoennites.

That was a surprise, but not too unwelcome.

”I knew you were strong, but a gym leader huh? Things got too busy on your end did they? So, were your parents also from Hoenn?” Kouji asked, in a way he wanted to know more about the friend he had made, but at the same time he had done his best not to pry.

He hated the same thing being done to him, so he avoided it, swerved around it, and carried on as normal.

But Kouji let his eyes fall on the Sharpedo, that was a good pokemon, a strong one, he could tell with a look. For the dark types he adored, this pokemon was perhaps a bridge between their themes.

"Nah, I got really fucked up once and kind of had to retire. Almost got my fucking belly ripped open."[break][break] Temp lifted up his shirt, showing off the deep gash scars; they were knit together and healed but still ugly looking. "Took months to recover even after I could walk again. Fucking hated every minute of it."[break][break]

"My dad is, don't think my mom was. Not sure where she was from. Me and my dad are part of one of the Indigenous peoples still living in Hoenn. So, like, my family was here before 'Hoenn' was 'Hoenn'." Temp grinned, he was proud of his heritage and didn't care to brag about it. His people were a small but proud subset of people.[break][break]

"What about you, dude? Turn out you're like, an Alolan Prince or something?"[break][break]

Marina was a very sturdy shark. Kouji Matsubara had good eyes. Absolutely massive even for the species and covered in scars. Well taken care of and muscular. It was clear the shark was cared for a lot.

Yet, the question turned towards him; knowing this about Temp, in a sense there were some similariites, taking after their fathers; their mothers being gone for one reason or another. Kouji believed his mother was dead but, he disliked talking about his own past but he was a reciprocial person.

”My pops is from Kanto, not sure where my mom is from; my dad wasn’t the kind to talk about her. But I grew up in Rustboro. He was some smuggler for Rocket, he quit after the last boss got ‘imself killed, but I spent a lotta time smuggling with him, sea routes, ships, that kinda boring stuff.” He knew he was pretty good at it, but at the same time he disliked it, his expression fell to be kinda neutral.

”He’s a pretty gross guy, but I learned a lotta good things from him, well good for rocket, so bad for everyone else.” He laughed as if it was a joke only he really understood.

”Seems neither of us are princes, so no exciting stories there.”

But his eyes fell on the Sharpedo, she was big, she was strong, but at the same time, she was a survivor just like her own trainer. ”You really like your pokemon huh? She survive alongside you?”

Temp nodded along as Kouji Matsubara opened up about himself. Seemed they did have a few things in common. Shame that Kouji didn't seem to like his dad much. Temp often felt like he was one of the few Rockets that had a good relationship with his parents. It had just been fucked that his mom had died.[break][break]

"Yeah, Marina's a good one. Found 'er in a scrap trap as Carvanha. Been with me for years. Been through some hard shit with me too." Temp grinned and reached out to scratch at his partner's head. The shark grumbled lightly and leaned into the touch.[break][break]

"I treat my pokemon really well by principle. Don't be fooled- they're dangerous." Temp smirked at that. "But they won't bite the hand that feeds them since they love me."

The same couldn’t be said of his Umbreon, she was new, she wasn’t a long-term member of his team. Were it his Eevee, it would have been a different pokemon, it would have grown into a toughened pokemon, but the way she rolled over and allowed him to pat her belly made him sigh. ”Aye, well…Pokemon come in different shades, but sometimes I wish they weren’t all that timid.”

Some of his pokemon hated him, there was a careful balance he kept with his own, that of being able to rip out his own throat, but yet beaten down enough to never try. ”How’d you do it? Most of mine are waiting to beat me up?” He said with a chuckle, his training was brutal.

Temp pulled out two more pokeballs. Out was called a Midnight Lycanroc and a a cute little Eevee. The Lycanroc was covered in scars with huge teeth and massive claws. The Eevee was glowing with strange runes, staring up at Kouji Matsubara with bright shining eyes.[break][break]

"Which of these do you think is more suited to rip your face off?"

"Milkbone is a baby." The Lycanroc whined when Kouji Matsubara spoke, tail tucking between his legs. He dropped to all fours and scrambled over to Temp, hiding behind his Trainer. The canine peered out from behind the man. Temp just shushed him softly and have the dog a few scratches on the head.[break][break]

"He looks tough but ain't suited for battle. I just keep him as a house pet."[break][break] He glances down at the Eevee.

"But Glowfly? Well, a Swift would for sure fuck you up... but I dare you to turn your back on him, dude. Little fucker craves blood. Made him super easy to train."
