[break][break] Fur warms you, and you realize just how cold and lifeless you had felt. Something soft graces your skin, and your realize just how uncomfortable it is in this hospital bed, with sheets the consistency of paper. He licks your skin, and you realize, as if feeling it for the first time all over again, just how good it feels to giggle. [break][break] Most of all, his unabashed affection and his loyalty remind you of Navy, this man who has in such little time saved your life countless times.[break][break] And you realize, just how lost you might be without his guidance. You have only known him a short time, but in that time you have begun an entirely new life and he has shown you some small sense of normalcy that you had thought was lost to you. [break][break] You clutch the Arcanine in front of you and hold him close. Until it gets dark, until the lights go out, until everybody leaves. Even if they drag Navy away, they can't pull the weight of this gigantic pokemon away from you. They leave him be, because he is harming nobody. Finally, finally, you drift off, into dreamless sleep. [break][break] The night is a cacophony of illusions and hallucinations all the same. [break][break] In a way, you feel as if you had never left the deep. It encapsulates everything you are. [break][break] You are floating. Transparent, floating ghosts carry you along in swarms. And you know that you will never die.[break][break] Your heartbeat in your head. A heartbeat that is both yours and something else, something larger than you could ever know.[break][break] Your father speaks to you of something unintelligible. Important words you know you should never forget, but lost completely as if you were submerged underwater.[break][break] And finally, you see Navy, standing over you in your dreamless sleep. You sleep so light you're nearly awake, but as you reach toward him, your eyes flutter open, and he's gone.[break][break] You simply have the warmth of Voyager laying atop you, keeping you warm. Keeping you alive, for the poison in your veins, in your heart, in your mind, it is as cold as the void itself. He is your lifeline. And you hug him closer, as the night reaches slowly toward the morning hours, as time creeps ever so steadily onward, feeling so very slow and so very fast all the at the same time.[break][break] "He kept me from... falling in..."[break][break] You tell Navy that in a whisper the next morning. Voyager, who kept you from slipping back into the sea, licks your cheek. And you can't help but smile. IT pains you, but you smile all the same.[break][break] "He's a good boy."[break][break] You pet him softly. Feel his warm fur.
