In recent attempt to broaden her business approach to more than what Merrick Prescott left her, Summer Atreides had entered the fashion industry in full force. And it was far from silent. There were already posts in business media about the Prescott Industries CEO branching further into new territories.[break][break]

She'd seen comments about how stupid it was for her to do this. It was unwise for someone trained to handle information, money, and trade to go into something seemingly different. But, as she recalled talking to Gunner one night...[break][break]

"I think that'd be very fun for you," he said. She remembered him holding her close and kissing her shoulder, reminding her not to worry.[break][break]

It would be fun, Summer decided. She even told him that she was starting to move forward with the idea, attending more fashion shows and attempting to buy more items for the shop she was going to construct. Right now, she was in the Upper District with several of her old clothes, or some she'd never worn herself, to dress a model for a show.[break][break]

Her phone buzzed, and she looked down. Opening it, she saw Gunner's reply. "That's great. Good luck," he said. She couldn't help the small smile on her lips, sending back an emote before putting her phone away and settling at her designated spot and drinking some water.[break][break]

She caught sight of the woman next to her, with quite an interesting style of hair. "Your hair. Who did it?" Summer asked, crossing her legs over each other as she waited for the models to arrive.

[break][break] Flouncing down came Mila, more than familiar with the studio's lights and flare. She'd had freelance work like this before, back when she'd taken a step back from the industry, and it was more than natural to come straight into it. Plenty of people waved hi to her as she passed, and she winked at them, a piece of pocky balanced in her mouth.

[break][break] The fashion designer saw Summer Atreides from a distance, pointing at the makeup artist who was assigned to do their models looks for the day. Her name was Jasmine, and last weekend she'd wanted to chop all her hair off to get over her nasty ex. Of course Mila had offered! And denied her hair sakura-pink to boot.

[break][break] "Isn't it cute?" she cooed, waving at the woman as she ducked her head out of the way of both women when she was called off-stage. Mila blinked, as if only noticing that Summer was there.

The person she was speaking to seemed to open her mouth, about to respond. Instead, a voice echoed down the way as someone claimed to have done her hair. Summer raised a brow, looking past the people for a moment to try and catch sight of whoever it was, with no true avail until she cleared the models walking in front of her.[break][break]

Then it seemed to make sense. The short pink hair, and this woman's hair... though her hair was dark, there was a streak of bubblegum pink flashing in the light. It was all similar.[break][break]

She could only assume the bright streak matched an equally bright personality. Summer hoped that she could at least make it through the day without sickeningly sweet positivity.[break][break]

"Summer Prescott. And you?" she asked, tapping one glittered nail against her bottle.

"They've been talking about you, you know!" She pinned her hair back, then turned around, smiling brilliantly and offering her own manicured hands to greet her.

It never fails to bring a feeling of pride and egotism when someone recognizes her, either by face or name. Summer held back the attempt to smirk and say "of course I am." She was here to build friendships and alliances.[break][break]

This wasn't the business world. She needed partnerships and anyone who'd be willing to join her for collaboration.[break][break]

"Trust me, I've already been sent several articles. I don't really give a damn what the press or business community says, though." She gave a scoff, rolling her eyes at the thought of them. Cretins, vermin. All of them.[break][break]

Mila offered her hand, so amicably, she took it, shaking it formally. "Nice to meet you as well. How long have you been doing this?"

[break][break] Mila was never one to stay one place for long, so she flounced along the stage floor and head over to where the mannequins lay. There were several different designs out, some she had ordered herself, and others that the director had wanted for the production. Her fingers trailed along the latticed fabric, pinning where she thought appropriate.

"What I've learned is every profession has vultures. You deal with them as they come, one way or another. I don't care what people have to say for me, so long as I make a name for myself," Summer said with finality.[break][break]

However, seeing Mila walking around prompted Summer to get to work. She stood, taking a second to avoid any dizziness or nausea that ran to her head, and settled for a mannequin nearby. Wheeling it over, she began to work a few pieces onto it.[break][break]

"So you have an upper hand in these things. What I mean, you know what you're doing. Five years is still experience," she said, giving her a look with her eyebrow raised.[break][break]

"I wanted to try something new. I've always been into fashion. Slateport Fashion Week, galas, you name it. And I mentioned to my boyfriend that my company wasn't making me happy like it once was. His encouragement really helped me decide to do this. So, I decided to open my own boutique. I have a million outfits I've never worn, and I want to do something to make myself happy instead of drowning myself in paperwork all the time."

Sweet, huh? Well, what Mila didn't know wouldn't hurt her.[break][break]

Summer wouldn't say she had skill in creating new clothes. But she knew how to dress up a person with different items of clothing and jewelry. Accessorizing was also a skill she had.[break][break]

"Do you think you could teach me a thing or two about making clothes?" she asked as she straightened the outfit onto the mannequin.[break][break]

"He's not in the industry. He works for a law firm as a paralegal. As for my stuff, he's seen my style. He's definitely supportive of my endeavors."[break][break]

Ah, a question Summer knew she'd be asked a lot. "I've donated quite a large amount to charity. But I wanted to save a few items as stock for my store, if that makes sense. I don't have talent in making things. I wasn't supposed to be doing this, according to my father. They're my starter items, unworn and unused."

Summer couldn't help an annoyed feeling creeping up. Of course, she understood a little. What if she was seen as competition? Her ultimate goal was to open her shop and partner with creators and designers. This Mila girl was probably the same, though her pieces were hand made.[break][break]

"Not even to teach me the basics of sewing?" One last feeble attempt. Because Summer Prescott didn't even know how to thread a needle.[break][break]

Summer pinned back some of the fabric on the mannequin, hugging the figure just right. She couldn't help a snorting laugh at her comment.[break][break]

"Adorable isn't the word I'd use... but thank you?" Some jewels were placed here and there as she hummed in contemplation. "I'm not one to call my own relationships cute, so if you think a paralegal and a pregnant business woman with a desire for fashion cute, have at it."[break][break]

Their relationship felt so complicated as of late, since Gunner was busy working constantly. She missed him. She missed having time with him, talking about life and what could become of it. His gentle kisses and promises that everything was okay. But could she afford to be selfish and ask him to spare his time away from work to see her even once?[break][break]

"Is the fashion industry all about making things?" Summer asked, tilting her head slightly as she adjusted a few items on the mannequin's wrist. "Fashion is expression too. Styling and wearing. While I'm not talented in creating my own masterpieces from scratch from fabric, I can surely make something new with the pieces I have already, can I not?"

[break][break] talk about the worst time to break into the industry.

[break][break] "might want to keep that kind of info to yourself, darling," she quipped, lips twisted into a smile. "in the wrong hands, they'll tear you apart like vultures."

[break][break] finished with her adjustments, mila stands.

[break][break] her skilled hands had breathed life into a dress fit for a model. it embodied both style and boldness, from the way that she had stitched the fabric together to the way she had chosen colors that were bold, yet inviting. fierce floral designs creased the fabric in a vibrant array, the black sleeves sheer enough to cause scandal.

[break][break] "are you listening to yourself?" mila said cheerfully, dropping the last of the pins into the box between them. "you just contradicted yourself — you said you had no talent for making things, yet you want to make something new?"

Summer's eyes rolled dramatically. Whatever. She was used to doing things the hard way. It seemed like her attempts at finding some sort of partnership were going to fall short.[break][break]

With her finishing touches done, she regarded the outfit and jewelry with a satisfactory gaze before she spoke again.[break][break]

"There's more to making than stitching and sewing. Combining outfits and jewelry together: that's making, isn't it?" she challenged.[break][break]

Finally, Summer regarded her with a cool gaze, a brow raised and lips quirked in a small smile. "Anyway. I'm going to take my leave, Miss Mila. Perhaps we'll run into one another again in the future."[break][break]

None of the words this woman spoke were getting into her skin. And she'd refuse to let them. She took her things, gave a quick brush back of her hair, and walked away with poise.
