Months had passed since Zev's first meeting with Neffatari Nzingha. By this time in any entanglement, he normally grew bored, or the woman demanded more affection than he was willing to give. But neither of those things had happened yet with Nenet. They still saw each other with frequency, unfazed by any changes to their scheduled meetups. Their romps in bed still thrilled him.[break][break]

Zev found it peculiar, but he didn't question it. In fact, having this arrangement with Nenet was refreshing and exciting. So he maintained his façade around her and even took the day off on her birthday so they could celebrate at his apartment.[break][break]

He'd promised a homecooked meal, enough wine for getting drunk, and cuddles from his shiny Lycanroc. Luna had taken quite a liking to Nenet and often whined for her company. The two now lounged on the couch, Luna's head resting on Nenet's lap.[break][break]

After making sure dinner wouldn't burn if he stepped away for a few minutes, Zev removed a gift bag from a corner of the pantry and picked up his glass of wine. He himself had imbibed a couple of glasses already, so the buzz of alcohol made his movements looser, his expressions more genuine.[break][break]

Though, oddly, Zev already found himself faking fewer smiles around Nenet.[break][break]

"Hey, I have something for you," he said as he took a seat on her other side. He extended the gift bag to her. Inside, she would find a blank leatherbound journal and a box of galaxy-themed, lemon-flavored macarons. "Happy birthday."

Nenet had been secretly delighted when Zev invited her over for dinner to celebrate her birthday - normally she spent her birthday in a bottle of wine singing jazz and baking too much, so this was certainly a welcomed surprise. Nestled comfortably on the couch with Luna the Lycanroc draped across her knees, just as she's considering commandeering Zev's radio to find a jazz station the man in question pops out from the kitchen pantry and sits beside her.

She's not tipsy yet, though her attention is clearly elsewhere as she appears surprised at the appearance of Zev. Blinking once, she carefully sets down the wine glass and shifts forwards - though is mindful enough not to jostle Luna - to take the box.

"Oh," she murmurs in quiet surprise, her expression softening as she looks from the gift to Zev. "You didn't -" her voice breaks off abruptly as she stares for a moment at the box. The gift has already been bought and given, she reasons, and thus changes tactics to say instead, "Zev, thank you."

Opening the box to reveal the leatherbound journal, she smiles warmly, her fingertips brushing over its fine surface before setting it aside to peer at the second box. "You have been paying attention," Nenet teases all of a sudden, her eyes undeniably bright as the macarons are noticed.

Crooking her finger to draw Zev nearer, she presses a kiss to his lips and murmurs against his skin a quiet, "Thank you. This was very thoughtful."

Nenet's reaction was exactly what Zev had expected. A pleased smile spread across his face as she beheld the journal and the macarons. He draped his arm across the back of the couch to encircle her shoulders, rewarding himself with the intimacy for a job well done.[break][break]

But then she beckoned him for a kiss, the gesture soft and full of gratitude. "You're very welcome," he murmured back before stealing a second kiss, this one less chaste as his tongue tasted the wine on her lips.[break][break]

Nenet's touch never failed to stir up greed within him, whether it was her mouth against his or her hands on his body. It took great effort for Zev to rein himself in; after all, the night was young, and he wasn't about to burn dinner on the stove.[break][break]

So he pulled away and glanced at the box in her hands. "I visited several different Kalosian cafés to find the tastiest custom macarons," he explained. "These are from a little place in Mauville City. I'll take you one day."[break][break]

He could imagine the delight on her face as she ordered a sugary coffee and whatever pastry she happened to fancy. The way Nenet's eyes lit up when she was pleased was intoxicating, and Zev wanted her to gaze at him that way again and again.[break][break]

"If you want to eat one now, we won't tell anyone." He winked playfully at her. "Right, Luna?"[break][break]

The Lycanroc gave a small, encouraging bark as she turned over onto her back, her four paws raised into the air.

A pleasant hum rumbles from Nenet's throat as she finds herself kissed again, her lips almost pulling into a pout when Zev ends it. Her attention is diverted at the mention of the macarons to the box in her hands; her fingertips lightly trace its outside with a feather-light touch.

"I would love that," she assures him warmly at the mention of the bakery her desserts came from. She then laughs, a certain delight evident in her expression at the assurance she can steal a bite before dinner. In a low, purring voice she murmurs in return, "Aren't you kind."

It seems for a moment Nenet may draw Zev forwards again for another kiss, but Luna's antics draw her gaze downwards. She laughs, one hand moving to bury in the ruff of Luna's neck to scratch there. "Aren't you a darling," she coos to the Lycanroc. Zev is apparently forgotten for the moment as she baby-talks the wolf, her hands moving to squeeze Luna's cheeks before she finally opens the macaron box and takes out one of the galaxy-painted cookies.

The whole of the small cookie is popped into her mouth, a nearly salacious moan filling the air shortly thereafter. "These are heavenly," Nenet praises, her hand covering her mouth as she speaks, eyes a touch wide with surprise. She blinks once, seeming to realise her pun, and then laughs.

"When's dinner," she demands with mirth. "I'm going to eat all of these in one sitting if I'm not careful."

When Nenet's eyes widened at the delectable flavor of the macarons, Zev's chest swelled with triumphant pride. He had chosen the perfect gift after all. So perfect that she teased eating the whole box before dinner was ready.[break][break]

Chuckling, he stood from the couch. "It should be done now," he said. Returning to the kitchen, he checked their dinner for the night: Alolan pork stew that he'd read was a comfort food for many natives, with side dishes of pineapple fried rice and cold lomi lomi salad.[break][break]

"It's ready!" Zev called as he cut the heat and began plating the main dish. Luna jumped off the couch at the declaration, eager for scraps. She padded over to the kitchen table as Zev brought over the meal.[break][break]

The table had already been set with plates and silverware. He pulled Nenet's chair out for her and gestured for her to take a seat. "Bring over the rest of the wine, too."

Nenet hums at the information dinner should be ready, a certain remorse evident in her golden eyes as she flips closed the box to seal away the remaining macarons. She doesn't move, however, until Zev confirms it's time to eat - only then does she drop forwards to press a kiss to Luna's forehead before the wolf slinks off to beg for scraps.

She would have to drop something when Zev wasn't looking for her favourite girl.

Leveraging herself upwards, Nenet pauses at the suggestion to bring the wine, and then instantly spins back to retrieve the bottle. Sometimes that man was filled with great ideas she decides as she takes up the bottle while being overly careful not to spill the glass in her other hand. She sets the bottle on the table and then a kiss is pressed to Zev's cheek for his efforts.

Nenet pauses, glass still in hand, as she then takes note of the set dinner table. "Is that lomi lomi salad?" she asks with decided surprise, her eyes widening a touch. She hadn't really had anything from Alolan cuisine outside of the few dishes she managed scraped together when she had the energy and a full day off to properly make something.

A soft little, "Oh," spills from her lips for the second time during the evening as she takes in the sight of the set table and then looks to Zev. Setting down her wine glass, her hands lift to cup his cheeks and she presses a tender kiss to his lips.

"You're spoiling me rotten tonight," she says with utmost contentment against his skin before releasing him and finally taking a seat. Motioning to the stew she asks, "Which recipe did you use?"

Nenet's delighted surprise was worth the effort to cook the meal. Zev's smile turned into a proud grin as realization dawned on her. And when she reached for his face to draw him close, he met her eagerly.[break][break]

His hands at her waist gently pulled her against the front of his body as their lips met in a tender kiss. He felt the heat of her through their clothes, the scent of her perfume filling his nose.[break][break]

"It's your birthday," Zev replied, the grin returning as he looked into her gold-flecked eyes. "Of course I'm going to spoil you."[break][break]

They sat across from each other at the table, with Luna curled up beside Nenet's chair.[break][break]

"I found a cooking blog written by a mom of three kids in Hau'oli City," he explained as he served Nenet first. "I figured it'd be more authentic than whatever major food network posted on their site."[break][break]

Zev then filled his own bowl and plate. "Try it and let me know what you think. And don't go easy on me," he added with a confident smirk. "I have a reputation as a pretty decent cook I have to uphold."

Unfolding her napkin to lay across her lap, Nenet cants her head faintly in Zev's direction as he explains where he found the recipe. "Good choice," she praises. "Melemele does a better version than Ula'ula, but don't tell anyone back home I said that or I'll be disowned."

She winks playfully and then picks up her spoon, her expression a touch mischievous as she stirs the stew once and then picks up a spoonful. Blowing lightly before taking a bite, she soon smiles and then wipes at her lips with the napkin.

"I guess I have to keep you for a while longer if you can cook an acceptable pork stew," declares Nenet playfully. "I'll let you keep your reputation for now." She smiles warmly, fondness seeping into her expression as she observes Zev for a moment before tucking into the meal; when she's certain the man isn't paying attention, Nenet secrets out a small piece of salmon from her plate to offer to Luna.

Zev chuckled as Nenet winked. He watched her consume the first spoonful of soup, eager to know her reaction before he dug in himself. The smile that curled her lips said everything he needed to know.[break][break]

He released an audible sigh of relief and smiled back. "I guess that means I'll be making more of it in the future. Can you believe this is my first time cooking Alolan pork stew?" he lied. He'd practiced it three times in the weeks leading up to Nenet's birthday.[break][break]

Pleased that his dish had passed the authenticity test, Zev began to eat. At the first bite, his eyes lit up at the rich, umami flavor. A hum of appreciation escaped him as he chewed.[break][break]

"Drink up," he said to Nenet, raising his glass in toast to her. "There's plenty of wine."
