Hoenn was a region always in the danger of incoming disaster. Between everything that had happened in the past year, everything that had happened in the Ultra Deep Sea, Jayden knew that it was important more than ever to make sure that there were remedies befitting of any disaster that would come forth. It was why - as of late - he had been thinking more and more about the application of Crystablooms, and how they could be used for medicinal use. Last time he had spoke of it had been with elijah gardner, and their local herbalist had mentioned speaking to Elisabeth Fiorelli.

[break][break] It had been a topic that Jayden had been meaning to bring up, and ever since he had met with anya fowl for his Sygna Suit preparation a few days ago, he had been looking for their Underboss to discuss it with her. After all, anya fowl had worded it well:

[break][break] They should leave the Crystablooms to the experts. To people like Elisabeth Fiorelli.

[break][break] More than that, one of his own grass-types were suffering from an unfortunate injury from one of his shadow pokemon. Although they were not as strong as Cillian Quinn's originals, Krsnik had a tendency to go harsh in training. Perhaps Elisabeth would have a cure, though. She was a botonist, was she not?

[break][break] The laboratories door slides open and the Rocket admin steps his way through, fortunate to find the subject of his interest at the other end of the room.

[break][break] "Underboss Fiorelli," he said pleasantly. "I'd just been looking for you."

[break][break] Oh Jayden. Wholly ignorant to whatever blight that was swarming Rocket's newest Avatar.

His name was neutrally spoken. He'd done nothing to offend the woman or to earn her suspicion.[break][break]

She glanced up at him from beneath black curls that loosely framed her face, hair tied back in a bun to allow for her work in the laboratory; gloves and glasses shielded her from the subject of her current fixation.[break][break]

Rather than the crystablooms that the admin would have associated her with, a darkly purplish liquid bubbled and frothed in nearby beakers, an unpleasant stench brewing from its contents.[break][break]

A warning sign regarding 'HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES' served as a backdrop on a nearby wall, ominously hanging above her head.[break][break]

Perhaps, he should have known better. Perhaps, there should have been a hint of sorts that things were off. That something about Elisabeth Fiorelli was not as they were before.

[break][break] However, even as he looked at her and those beakers bubbling ominous, purple liquid behind her, none of his triggers went off. No alerts. This was simply his Underboss in her natural habitat, another fellow Rocket delved deeply into her work.

[break][break] "Yes, actually."

[break][break] He released his Roselia. Anastiya was a strong specimen by any means, just like all of Jayden's other pokemon. Her rose-like blossoms were bright and full of life, exuding a sense of perfect regality, hinting only at her strength. As she stared at the Underboss with blank, unfeeling eyes, one could tell she was a specimen that had been born and bred in Rocket, trained only by the excellence of Rocket's own Admin of Offense. One thing stood in stark contrast among the rest, though, and it was her leaves. Where one might find the perfect specimen to have velvety green ones, Anastiya's were deep black and burned to a crisp, something that went far beyond the means of what a normal pokemon should allow.

The sight of the Roselia froze her in place, a flicker of discomfort briefly entering her eyes before she blinked it away.[break][break]

No. This Roselia wasn't Primrose. Prim was somewhere far away, flourishing in a place where her own ruinous touch could not reach her. Selfishly, she hated this Roselia for daring to stand before her, when her own treasured companion was kept at such arm's length.[break][break]

"I am not a healer, Cross."[break][break]

Her rebuttal cut between them like a knife, shutting down his inquiry before it could truly take root. Her eyes averted themselves to the Ariados venom she busied herself with, hands finding purchase on thick glass.[break][break]

"You'd be better served speaking with Beast bryan delarosa, I suspect."

"I do," was her quick answer, and her correction came as swiftly. "I did."[break][break]

Her hands wrung themselves into knots as she looked away, irritable at this unexpected line of questioning. Truthfully, she hadn't attempted to draw near Pokemon of this nature, out of fear of what she might discover.[break][break]

All the same, curiosity nagged at the back of her mind, unrelenting as it pulled her a half-step closer to his Pokemon. The purplish-black petals reminded her of Primrose, and she closed her eyes.[break][break]

"What antidotes have you tried?" she asked finally, releasing a breath she'd been holding too long.

"you did?" the nuance was not lost on the rocket admin, who suddenly looked at the other with only an ounce of peculiarity. "what happened to her?"

[break][break] but as curious as he may have been, not even jayden was ignorant enough to notice the discomfort rising on Elisabeth Fiorelli's face. it was not a line of questioning he was particularly interested in, so he let it lie there.

[break][break] onto more important matters, after all.

[break][break] "the normal ones. potions, healing ingredients — i even dropped her by the med bay, though the nurses could not do anything else there either."

[break][break] he looks at her, trusted and complacent eyes turning to her.

[break][break] there was a briskness to his tone — hopefully he could figure this out quickly, and then get back to training.

"Nothing," she spat back with venom, arms crossing defensively in front of herself. "She's fine." This was, strictly, true; Primrose had been separated from her for some time now. Admittedly, that decision had been made to protect her from what their closeness might otherwise inspire.[break][break]

As his attention shifted away from this topic, however, the hunch in her shoulders relaxed. Tension slowly abated. He asked her if she could perform miracles, and she wanted to laugh at him.[break][break]

I don't do blessings, she almost said, but something in the way he looked at her made her swallow back that acidic reply.[break][break]

"I won't make you any promises," Elisabeth said instead, a hand tentatively reaching towards the Roselia's petals. In another time, she'd have cautiously inspected the petals for any sign of wilting or blemish; she'd had pruned the leaves and thorns as needed, ensuring the Pokemon flourished with the same care and beauty as any treasured Galarian rose.[break][break]

She could summon plants from the earth now, too, she reminded herself. Not everything in her was rot and decay. Then again, those monstrous vines, thorns, and carnivorous flowers bore startlingly little resemblance to the plants she'd used to tend in her little garden. They feasted on the earth with a greed that left it barren, unable to sustain anything else.[break][break]

A hesitant uncertainty left her palm hovering over the Pokemon, a warning in the back of her mind telling her to step back. There are things you don't want to know the answer to, she reminded herself, a warning she'd not heeded back when she'd first been given that counsel, and that she knew she wouldn't heed now.[break][break]

The moment her hand touched the purplish-black petals, the ruination began.[break][break]

Blackened rot began to seep through the veins of violet that remained, browning its surface as it stretched across the Pokemon's body. Panic flooded Elisabeth at the sight, and as that emotion took hold of her with a chokehold of shame, the ascent of decay only intensified in answer.[break][break]

"Stop--!"[break][break]

She bit back the rest of her protest as her hand curled back into itself, the damage already done. To finish her thought meant admitting how powerless she truly was.[break][break]

It meant admitting to jayden cross she wasn't sure how to stop being the monster that she was.

"i'm not asking for any," he agreed amicably.

[break][break] or so he thought.

[break][break] jayden hadn't had high hopes for the injured roselia, but as long as Elisabeth Fiorelli would try, he thought he would be satisfied. if her methods didn't work, he could always go to bryan delarosa after all. but the underboss was a trusted confidant and a skilled florist, so he figures that there was little that she could do that would really injure his pokemon.

[break][break] he had thought.

[break][break] his eyes widened as pitch-black haze begins to spread from the ex-florist's palm — a noxious gas even worse than her own poisons. 'when had..?' the RUINATION wastes no time in spreading, encompassing faster than his mentor's black miasma. the roselia's eyes widen too, but it's scream is muffled by the blackened rot that crawls up her throat and chokes her.

[break][break] the silence that passes after is deafening.

[break][break] bewildered, he looked at her.

[break][break] 'did you do that on purpose?'

[break][break] "... that's not what i expected."

[break][break] a dead roselia lay at their feet.
