A young BARNABY FINCH blossomed into consciousness, the boy appearing about eight or so. [break][break]

He was gingerly tiptoeing though the halls of what appeared to be a large, grand estate. It was dim, with the walkway around him illuminated solely by moonlight spilling from ornate windows. Everything was quiet. There was no sound in this memory.[break][break]

Suddenly, three teenage boys came barreling around the corner, their enthusiasm heightened upon seeing little Barnaby at the end of the hall.[break][break]

There was little use in trying to run, but he did. No point in fighting back when they caught him, but he did. Futile to silently scream for help when they pulled him into an adjacent room, but he did.[break][break]

It was visceral — so real that Barnaby felt he'd been transported back to the memory, rather than just simply reliving it through a simulation.[break][break]

Thank ARCEUS the memory quickly faded and they were returned to their reality.

Cillian expects, perhaps, to be shown a glimpse of Hoenn's history, not unlike when Dialga had intervened on one hot summer night.[break][break]

Instead, he's thrown into his own trauma.[break][break]

Saffron. A dim-lit room with his hands tied behind his back. The acrid tang of smoke overpowered by the taste of iron in the back of his throat. The fear. He's going to die here.[break][break]

The distant knowledge that this is simulated is the only thing that saves him.[break][break]

He shudders when he comes back to himself, gaze haunted.[break][break]

"What the fuck was that?" He looks to Barnaby, demanding, "What did you see?"[break][break]

After his many iterations within the RKS Simulation, Barnaby now knew one thing for certain:[break][break]

This technology was dangerous.

It could tap into its user's memories and recreate them. Worse still, it was likely that the DRK Triad could somehow access this information, too, if Maldacena's warning rang true.[break][break]

This realization made Barnaby wary of returning. Digging deeper than that, however, was a resistance to experiencing moments from his past again. He'd blocked so many from his memory, like the one now freshly recollected.[break][break]

Hollowly, Cillian Quinn's question hung in the air between them. Barnaby didn't reply right away. Instead, his eyes appeared unfocused on the underboss.[break][break]

Distant, forlorn. [break][break]

"... just something from my childhood. Nothing monumental, though. Odd..." He finally muttered, shaking his head to try and rid it of the tiny, terrified face imprinted there.[break][break]

"What about you?"

Though relieved that they hadn't seen each other's memories, it's clouded by the gnawing dread in the pit of his stomach.[break][break]

"Kanto," Cillian replies, grim.[break][break]

It was not often the underboss spoke the named of the region he'd helped bring to ruin. In the grand scheme, he'd been an ant among an army. But he'd still felt the heat of the fires and tasted their smoke.[break][break]

Yet it had not showed him that, as his nightmares often did, but something far more personal.[break][break]

Like BARNABY FINCH, he seems unsettled by the experience... though he doesn't miss the other's distant gaze.[break][break]
