Michael Navidson remembers it, is tortured by it, but Ollie doesn't. He isn't. He can't be, not when the memories of it come only in flashes, just a fading dream.

[break][break] But when he sees Michael Navidson, it almost comes back. It flickers, like an ember in his chest, nearly-there.

[break][break] Instead, though, a smile dawns his face.

[break][break] "Sorry," the Head Ranger gives a laugh. "Gotta be my fault. You know me - I like traveling too much." His lips curve into a grin, teasing, before he adds, "Or maybe your fault. Maybe if you became a Ranger like I suggested, we'd have more chances to work together."

[break][break] But Ollie wasn't complaining. Michael Navidson was a Gym Leader, and a damn good one at that.

[break][break] "Back to Penny?" He lets out a laugh. "You think she'd care?"

[break][break] A memory pulses, stirs. Not from Goodbye Galar, but from that day in the hospital. When his gaze had been all crystal-sharp pain. All hurt. Today, though, he has nothing but sun for Michael Navidson.

[break][break] "Mocha! Let's go!"

[break][break] His Wyrdeer surfaces and with it, revealing a LIGHT SCREEN to temporarily shield them from damages while Michael Navidson cuts away at supernatural stone.

Being near the core hurts. A thousand magenta needles dig into him, along every line of his body. Looking down, he sees no injury. It’s all in his mind. That’s what he tells himself. Pulling out the specialized pick, the one that the scientists assure him will work, he begins chipping away at a god.[break][break]
Voyager, his Arcanine, slips out behind him. Instead of bringing a Pokemon that could expedite the process, he brings one that makes their lives a little easier. Voyager howls. His howl conjures the morning sun high above them.[break][break]
“]I think she’d care plenty, ya dunce.” He manages a smile of his own while he works. It’s slow going. One of them’s on defense, the other moves at a pace that doesn’t break his back. The trade-off is that they’re safe. Navy refuses to die for this fool’s errand, nor will he risk Ollie’s help. Nihilego begin to drift in, just watching them.
