Derek’s question didn’t get an immediate answer. Oz was too busy trying to find the perfect angle for a selfie with one of the Nihilego drifting by.

Only after he got a #perfect shot did he the white-haired guy. “Yeah. Just once with Lukey baby. It went all right.” All this stuff gave him plenty of things to share online. It made him feel like Jacques Cousteau—opening the weird, wild world for the peasants.

“I figured I would do what I can to help.” His grandfather had been a miner once upon a time. And, hey, it got him brownie points with the poors. Win-win.

Above him, Glitch-626 flickered in and out of existence. Sometimes, he’d reappear inside the translucent walls. His strange lights gave the place a discotheque air. If these oddities bothered Ozni, he showed no sign of it. But, behind his tinted glasses, some things were hard to read.

After a long, winding trip down the rumbly belly road, Ozni found himself standing in front of another glowing crystal. Again, those feelings of wrongness made his hair stand on end. When Derek mentioned the toll, Oz sighed. “I’d prefer an actual troll. Heck, I'd take a Hasbro one.” Maybe next time he’d just pay the other guy (or gal) off. All these feelings weren’t bringing him joy.

With a deep breath, he reached out to touch the orb. His eyes shut tight as feelings of terror and paranoia rushed through.
