"this is where oscar and i found something similar to the thing at the simulation."

priam leads the rocket beast to the regirock ruins. it gets difficult to find when the sandstorm around the area gets aggressive, but priam has been here multiple times to somehow get familiar with landmarks.

"tada! looks exciting, right? we just fell all the way through last time, but it was really there, i tell ya! at least i hope it's the same thing. we found a mega pokemon and that doesn't happen normally in the wild, right?

they were still at the entrance, where nothing seemed hospitable enough for visitors. darkness loomed within the decrepit structure while the weathered facade doesn't promise structural integrity.

priam deftly twirls a flashlight in his fingers as he takes the lead, haphazardly stepping into the darkness first with the light shining in front of him.

"let's see if we can find the same hole."

Unlike Priam, Zev had not spent enough time in Hoenn's desert to familiarize himself with the landscape. A sandstorm had grounded their all-terrain vehicle for a short while, but once it relented, Priam was able to guide them to the ruins that looked similar indeed to the one in the simulation.[break][break]

Exciting was not the word Zev would use for the mounds of stone and rubble. However, the fact that it existed beyond the simulation promised them the opportunity for a deeper investigation.[break][break]

And above all, Zev was curious to see if they could capture something powerful for their use. He took out his own flashlight so that its beam could illuminate more of the ancient structure as they walked through the shadowed halls.[break][break]

"When you last came here with Oscar, did you get a chance to look around?" he asked Priam.

priam takes a moment to think of an answer before settling on a narrative.

"i don't think we did. it gets scary when you're trapped underground with a rampaging mega pokemon, y'know? we just hightailed it out before the fighting caused a cave-in!"

most of the memory he can dredge up from his head are of panic and chaos. it's the common theme of every moment he hung out with the previous rocket beast. as with every memory of each person he gets close with, they would be nothing but fragments to be held close.

"at least we already took care of it. there shouldn't be anything dangerous down there now besides, well, the descent.

although no other words were said, priam's mood echo with each stride he takes. every step start to pick up in a rhythmic pace as each hall they pass get more familiar, leading them to a flight of stairs that went straight down.

he stops before they fully go down, flashing his light at the path down.

"one of the steps gave way last time. should we, uh, just make a hole ourselves?"

Priam's explanation made sense enough, so Zev did not prod further. He remained silent as he followed Priam through the ancient halls. Blue eyes took note of every possible exit, every ambush spot, every hiding place.[break][break]

Eventually, they reached a set of stairs descending into darkness.[break][break]

"We should. We can send some Pokémon down first to make sure it's clear and then teleport down," Zev agreed, releasing his Nidoking.[break][break]

Within a few minutes, the Pokémon had dug a hole in the floor nearby. The clattering of debris against a distant surface suggested that they should be able to reach the area below without much trouble.[break][break]

Zev exchanged his Nidoking for his Gengar. The ghost flew in a circle around the two men, curious about their surroundings, giggling.[break][break]

"Smoke!" The Beast snapped his fingers to get his Pokémon's attention. "Go take a look down there and clear it out if needed. Come back when you're done and bring us down safely."[break][break]

With a nod, Smoke zipped into the brand new hole and disappeared into the gloom.

"but there's no- oh, you meant your pokemon, not, like, actual smoke from a fire."

his eyes follow the gengar as it goes through the hole. priam flashes his light to let them get their sights on what was below. unfortunately, the descent was deep enough to swallow the light.

as they wait for the gengar to make its report, silence fills the room. it's awkward and still, and priam finds himself turning to zev.

"so, uh, what's happening lately? crazy stuff, huh?"

he's pretty sure the move was to stay silent, but the character he plays doesn't conform to that. friendly and active, starting a conversation and getting sociable was part of the act.

LANDMARK

PRIAM X ZEV

EVENTUALLY, THEIR VENTURE INTO THE UNDERGROUND takes them to a location similar to what is depicted in the WISHING STAR stage of THE RKS SIMULATION. At first, Priam and Zev may not believe they are in the right place. Centuries have worn down cave stones and stone walls. The very earth has shifted too. From earthquakes. From Pokemon. From human interference...

In spite of all of this, they can identify humanmade structures: decrepit pillars and broken kantharos and amphora. Large stones are also present here; however, the more remarkable discovery are the presence of old stones that look like WISHING STARS. However, these stones are devoid of all energy... perhaps, time has rendered them obsolete and cold.

Curiously, they can also find what appears to be mega stone mineral strains in the nearby cave walls...

Zev was not a man who engaged in small talk. He glanced sidelong at Priam, then peered back down into the blackness of the hole into which his Gengar had disappeared.[break][break]

"Yeah, crazy."[break][break]

Soon enough, Smoke returned and confirmed with several enthusiastic nods that the coast was clear. He subsequently brought Zev and Priam underground with PHANTOM FORCE. With the ghost hovering by his shoulder, Zev aimed his flashlight at the walls and floor.[break][break]

A plethora of human-made objects greeted them, surprising him. Most of them were broken vessels he assumed were used to hold liquids, like wine or beer. He walked past several derelict pillars before he stopped, the beam of his flashlight falling on a peculiar pile of stones.[break][break]

"Conrad, over here," he called out as he crouched beside them. "These look similar to the stones in the simulation, don't they?"

"ooh, true! then my guess is right! hah! i mean, of course, i'm right!"

he had forgotten what it looked like, or perhaps he hasn't seen them the first time around at all. it would have looked like just some rock to him without context.

walking forward, he investigates the rocks. he had worked with them before, in a life long past, and he should feel comfortable around them. yet, he finds himself unable to find the same connection.

"if it's from space, then it must be a wishing star, but i'unno. this one doesn't look like it give us the same powers like the ones we had in galar."

he picks one up.

"should we send some of these back anyways for study?"

Upon closer inspection, the stones Priam called Wishing Stars did look different. Unlike the stones in the simulation, which thrummed with latent power, the ones in their hands were dead and dull, as if the energy had long since dissipated.[break][break]

Still, Priam was right: perhaps Team Rocket's science department could glean something from them. Removing his backpack, Zev knelt beside a cluster of Wishing Stars and began stuffing them into the bag.[break][break]

"See anything else?" he asked Priam when he finished.[break][break]

Raising his flashlight, he pointed the beam at the cavern's walls. Something on the walls gleamed within the light.

he squints, but nothing particularly sticks out from the rest. there doesn't seem to be anything else worth noting.

"if we missed something, then we can always just come back!" he'd respond to zev's question positively.

he then realizes that he's an objective kind of guy. priam has been around science people enough that he can switch voices if needed.

"but as far as i know, i think i have enough samples for our scientists to figure out if we need to go back here or not."

priam takes notes on which bag of samples are which. he really should bring a label maker next time.

Zev nodded, similarly satisfied with their exploration. He whistled for Smoke, who was hovering by a wall that gleamed with some kind of material. The Gengar returned to his master's side with a wide grin.[break][break]

"Get us back to the surface, to the entrance of the ruin," the hitman commanded his Pokémon.[break][break]

In the blink of an eye, Smoke pulled all three of them into the phantom plane. Moments later, they emerged from it to find a sea of sand before them and the blinding sun above.[break][break]

And within half an hour, they were on their way back to Sootopolis City to deliver their findings.
