In Slateport on business for HNN, BARNABY FINCH had decided to check out the local carnival at the end of the day (once he was able to sneak away from his coworkers).[break][break]

Accompanying him was his ever-effervescent companion, Pepin the EEVEE. This was just the sort of environment the Pokémon loved, filled with people and colorful amusements to experience and enjoy.[break][break]

In all his excitement, Pepin leapt from Barnaby's shoulder and bolted ahead into the crowd. Unbothered by this, the journalist continued to leisurely stroll forward, perusing the nearby booths as he did so. Barnaby even stopped for a moment to watch a MR. MIME and it's trainer perform a mime act together.[break][break]

He trusted Pepin to come back within a moment or two. The EEVEE was impulsive but loyal; he could handle himself and knew Barnaby's expectations for him.

something bumps into his leg as he slowly makes his way through the crowd. he stops, turning away from the mime act he was distracted by to see a familiar eevee. it takes him a moment before it clicks.[break][break]

"oh, i know you. pepin? how could i ever forget you?"[break][break]

that must mean that reporter is close behind. he doesn't bother looking around for them; he reaches down for the eevee instead, wanting to pick it up.[break][break]

"did you run away on purpose?"[break][break]

he starts chatting with pepin as he continues his walk.[break][break]

Pepin, bless him, was ecstatic to be reunited with Matias... for whatever reason. The little fox eagerly jumped into the man's arms, mewling happily all the while. Once there, his little toe beans pressed against Matias' chest — leverage used to plant a small, affectionate lick to the Avatar's cheek.[break][break]

Meanwhile, as the act went on, Barnaby figured it was as good a time as any to promote his civilian persona on social media. BARNABY FINCH, the talk show host, had amassed quite the following over his two years in Hoenn. They needed to be fed regularly.[break][break]

Extending his arm to its fullest length, he angled the camera in such a way to accentuate all his best features while still showing off the carnival performers. He'd caption the photo with something witty and include the hashtag #Funtasia before posting it to Pokégram.[break][break]

Taking a second to admire his selfie, it was only after posting that Barnaby noticed none other than MATIAS SILPH in the background, cradling Pepin in his arms... what a case of déjà vu.[break][break]

"Matias," He called out, airy and pleasant, as if it was a delight to be face-to-face with a man that had almost killed him a few months back in Granite Cave.[break][break]

"I see someone hasn't forgotten you."
