Or perhaps it's that he's displeased to be in the simulation at all. "We can try it. I'd rather not deal with their laughing, regardless. I've got a migraine."[break][break]

Rocket duties stopped for nothing and no one, however, and so the underboss powers past his throbbing temple to start looking for materials.[break][break]

"Stuff's in different spots than last time," he acknowledges, rifling through a drawer. "Maybe that's randomized?"[break][break]

Eventually, with enough time, they find the materials they need.[break][break]

"Hm. You're right." He confirmed, brows scrunching in thought. Why would things be different from one iteration to the next? [break][break]

Leaving that question for later, soon all attention was on the newly-fixed device.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH wasn't sure what he expected.[break][break]

Just as it'd done several times before, Maldacena's voice played back through the PokéGear, warning them of watching eyes. No deviance from any other iterations.[break][break]

There was always the potential, though, if Naomi Sato's experiences were any indication. She'd been personally targeted by Nisa Holo herself here, after all.[break][break]

"Do you think Maldacena was warning Nomi specifically? Or was it just a blanket statement?" He asked the underboss, even as the workshop began to pixelate out of existence.

For all his griping, Cillian is no less dutiful as they assemble the required items to fix the device.[break][break]

He glowers at it when Maldacena speaks. No, he was not having fun. He doesn't bother to reply, knowing by now that the Triad member couldn't hear him, or else wouldn't reply.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH's words stun him from his sulking.[break][break]

"I hadn't considered that," he admitted. "All the more reason for Rocket to try and find him again, I suppose..."[break][break]

They needed all the allies they could get against the Triad, especially when their attacks felt more and more personal. They'd gone after Cillian, and now they were after the people he cared about.[break][break]

They materialized in front of the barren Tree of Life, surrounded by stone figures resembling Pokémon. Barnaby feels the essence of the tree beckoning him, but he does not immediately heed its call.[break][break]

"Agreed," The admin responded instead, eyeing Cillian Quinn with a sidelong glance. "Though I wish we knew more of his... motives."[break][break]

Maldacena was drenched in mystery. [break][break]

And Barnaby hated it. He detested the feeling of not knowing. [break][break]

With that said, he approached the tree and grasped the large watering can at the base of its trunk. He knew where this scene would lead.[break][break]

Watch fell from the spout, drenching the soil below.

Cillian's tone carries the same bitterness that BARNABY FINCH feels. Knowledge was power, and he felt powerless without it. They were naught playthings in the hands of the Triad, Maldacena included.[break][break]

He casts a sharp glare toward the Tree as he feels another tug.[break][break]

"I miss our Tree," he sighs, wistful, as he releases a Phione from its ball. It doesn't know the system of clicks and whistles he uses to command his team, so he adds, "Rain Dance. The shade was really nice, Hoenn's fucking miserable."[break][break]

The RAIN is comforting as it kisses his skin, soaking the waters beneath the Tree in turn.[break][break]

"It's not this hot in Kalos, either." The lack of question suggests personal knowledge. "Do you ever miss the cold?"

[attr="class","itemcoltext"]You water the tree. Suddenly, you hear a crackling sound of moving wood, the bare tree's branches swaying as if alive. Around you, the petrified Pokemon stir alive. The stone crumbles apart as new fur, hide and scale emerge.[break][break]

The tree settles back into dormancy, but the Pokemon eventually turn to you in thanks.[break][break]

Curiously, these Pokemon feature brilliant markings that glow and glimmer beautifully in the dappled sunlight. Whether they were originally Illumina Pokemon or not is uncertain, but they shine bright with gratitude.

Hoenn's heat was nigh insufferable at times. Even during the wintertime, when there was snow and ice on the ground, it had been due to unnatural forces, which sort of... marred the experience for Barnaby.[break][break]

"Winter is my favorite season, actually. There's just something cozy about it."[break][break]

He missed Kalos, though not as terribly as he once did. After a few years here, Barnaby had established connections and found fulfilling relationships.[break][break]

It's nice, speaking to someone who relates. In a rare case of genuine emotion cracking through his stoic mask, Cillian's eyes light up and a smile tugs brief at his lips.[break][break]

"Mine, too!" he says of winter. "Seems like everyone else around here prefers the warmer months, but I love the cold." He doesn't hesitate, as he once might have, to add, "Growing up in Circhester, it was always cold. We didn't really get seasons there... least not in the traditional sense." There was 'cold', 'less cold', and 'freezing'. "Now I have to fight Temp over the AC."[break][break]

Though he gripes, his tone is fond when he mentions Tempest Quinn.[break][break]

So caught up in the conversation is Cillian that he scarce notices this time as the scenery shifts around them.

The scene shifted and, to Barnaby's surprise, he found that he wished it hadn't. It was enjoying talking with Cillian Quinn so casually. Their conversation was the most mundane he'd had in a long while.[break][break]

It was nice.[break][break]

Rainbows gave way to a tense battlefield, high in the air within an enormous tower. It was a sequence BARNABY FINCH had experienced several times now, having gone through both choices, too. So, when he was prompted to pick here, he went with the option that most suited him.[break][break]

"I think I've seen almost everything there is to see in the simulation." He commented, even as the dragons clashed in the background.
