“Very you choice. Cute.” As if on cue, something rumbles from the jungle to interrupt their conversation. The Tyrunts see the Great Tusk coming and scamper into the trees. Navy gulps when he hears their whining. That’s not just the sound of them fussing. That’s the sound of them calling for their mother.[break][break]
“Hey look. It’s another one of these guys. Doesn’t it seem…weird? That should be a dinosaur but he feels all wrong.” Tossing out his Goodra, he listens to the happy hum of his dragon. It seems he’s happy for the chance to have some exercise.[break][break]
“Tell you what. When we get out of here, I’ll try and catch you an Aurorus. Call it a…birthday present.” Yohei paces, as dragons like to do. In so doing, he keeps the Great Tusk at bay for now.[break][break]
“What is your birthday?”

Though, a part of her does wonder if he would say the same if she had picked any other fossil, like an Anorith or maybe a Kabutops. After all, a Kabutops is exactly what had saved Chu-e Choi when darkness had descended upon Hoenn.[break][break]

Those questions slip under and run off with the fleeing Tyrunts, her eyes widening as she stares at the approaching Great Tusk. Another paradox pokemon, most likely a reimagined version of Donphan... She feels a little unsettled watching it roam around this jungle as if it were normal for it to exist. Then again, nothing about this forest is normal. If anything, it reminds her of the Tree of Life and the boundless land it had hidden in its hollow.[break][break]

The next questions gets her paralysed like a deer in the spotlight, her attention flicking between the oversized, furry Donphan and the much less worrisome gym leader-detective-sheriff standing before her.[break][break]

Her birthday? It's not some kind of unspeakable secret but now that he mentions it, she realises just how close it actually is. Another birthday, another year without them around.[break][break]

Leaves that flutter from the trees leave a trail of pink mist, a Springtide Storm born of will and imagination gently sweeping through the area. With the Tyrunts squealing for their mom, she imagines that there might not be too much time before a rather agitated dinosaur comes barging in.

He’s seen this attack so many times now, from at least half a dozen distinct Pokemon species. Eris’s still carries a certain panache. Indiscriminate as the storm is, he owes his safety to Yohei’s protection. His kind old dragon protects the sheriff, shielding him as best he can. While he chides Eris with the tone of a kindly grandfather, he looks to the Great Tusk with a far sterner look.[break][break]
His water pulse spreads over the area, washing both the Tyrunts and the Great Tusk away. They’re alone, again, for just long enough to speak. Navy gulps. Below them, water from Yohei has gathered in a puddle. Something rumbles in the distance. It rumbles again, closer, disturbing the stillness of the water. All of the Tyrunts yell excitedly.[break][break]
“Uh, Eris…” Navy gulps, once more nervous. Another pokeball comes out, this one holding Silver Bullet, his Rapidash. “You…got a Pokemon you can ride besides Reiner?” Yohei’s recalled with as much haste as one hand can muster.[break][break]
He mounts Silver Bullet a heartbeat before the Tyrantrum emerges, roaring at the detective like the prehistoric Tyrant that it is.[break][break]
“’Cause I think we’re gonna have to kite this thing to—” His thought is interrupted by the roar of a Great Tusk. He emerges again from the treeline, slamming into the Tyrantrum and locking it in place.

And just as Mitts readies themselves to pick her right up, here reemerges the titan - A behemoth challenging the reign of the apex predator with a big, welcoming crash.[break][break]

She asks but there really is a hint of reluctance in her voice. After all, how often do you get to see a battle between prehistoric giants?

“…the hell?” When Eris so readily, casually, throws out another legendary, the Sheriff does a double take. She carries around so many stories with her everywhere she goes. This, too, will be a part of her story – this adventure. He smiles in the midst of this insanity, thankful to be a part of this.[break][break]
“I guess you’re right. More fun to watch.” Riding Silver Bullet, he keeps an even pace. Tyrantrum and Great Tusk are dancing around the clearing. Tyrantrum’s great footsteps clear trees out of the way. Great Tusk helps with that as well, rolling around. He slams into the great dragon mother’s side, only to be bitten and tossed into a tree. Great Tusk rolls past Navy, getting a stray kick from Silver Bullet as a parting gift.[break][break]

Unbeknownst to the sheriff, Eris carries far more stories than he would ever expect. But perhaps, he will discover what others she hides another day, another place.[break][break]

There's no real need to hide the gleam of excitement in her eyes. If Navy endorses it, if they do get in trouble for it later, they can get in trouble together. Even if Mitts grants her a piggyback ride, Reiner chooses to remain and rumble, keeping up with them with bursts of electricity and elongated strides.[break][break]

Who would win? The Tyruntrum kicks her way through the foliage, flattening all that gets in her way. Fangs against armour, ferociousness against sheer weight -[break][break]

"Dragon momma."[break][break]

Because the wonders of a mother's love are endless, because of the little Tyrunts still trying to peep at the fight even after being told to hide. Scooping a Tyrunt right out of the path of the rolling Great Tusk, Mitts grunts as they haphazardly plonk it back down and shoo it away.

“Heh heh heh…” An unexpected voice chuckles. Navy recognizes it at once. Tormund rides atop the Tyrantrum. That cat has more balls than half off his gym trainers. “Haaaar!” Raising his hand, he orders a charge. All the Tyrunts gathered around raise their voice in that same cry. Each one cries out ‘haaaaaar’.[break][break]
He offers the mother a helping hand, her tail swiping like a baseball bat. The Great Tusk is sent flying, screaming in protest. It’s an angry, big, bloody beast. Huffing its horns, he rolls against the trees and goes to slam into her again. Again, he’s batted away.[break][break]
Sighing in frustration, he starts to stamp the ground. The earth begins to rumble. All the gathered Pokemon run about in terror. Navy starts scooping up Tyrunts as the ground splits, helping deposit them somewhere safer, away from the madness.[break][break]
Tyrantrum looks none too pleased. She’s going on the offensive, lost in the throes of an outrage.

"Brrri!!"[break][break]

But perhaps, the true focus should have resided on those actually riding the Tyrantrum themselves. One look up reveals a bright, pink spark, raucous laughter mixing with the angered roars as a certain pixie holds on for dear life.[break][break]

All at once, dread floods the field, latching deep into everyone's core. Pink dust fervently flutters about in waves, gathering and weaving into a crown of thorns perched upon both the Tyrantrum and Tormund's head.[break][break]

Adrenaline rushes through their systems, the mother of beasts seemingly gaining a burst of strength. And she'll run with it, jaws open wide as she crunches right down on the Great Tusk's tusk. Then with a giant heave and all her weight, she begins dragging it right through mulch and mud.

Up goes a cheer. Navy joins in, as well as the Tyrunts watching their mother do battle with the Great Tusk. Some of them cling to Navy’s horse. One even sits on the Sheriff’s shoulder. “]Haaaaar!” Tormund bellows, taunting the Great Tusk. It kicks its feet into the dirt, using it to build up momentum. Launching up and at the Tyrantrum, he rips one of his own tusks off to free himself from her grasp. In the wild, such a mark is a sign of strength. Battle scars are a warrior’s pride. Such is the law of the jungle, the iron rules of a world that only values strength.[break][break]
Great Tusk tries to bulldoze right through her, wobbling as he does so. He’s on the backfoot. All of the mother’s gathered children know that. Navy knows it, even his Silver Bullet knows it.[break][break]
“This…isn’t what I was expecting when I woke up today. Dunno ‘bout you.” It’s not the first time he’s said that since landing on this island, and it won’t be the last.

A primal Donphan drawn up from the recesses of someone's mind could never compete with the majesty of the Tyrantrums she's come to know in her rather short life, nor the stories she's heard from her father's own lips.[break][break]

With Mesprit keeping a close eye on the Great Tusk, a Protective barrier goes up right at the moment of impact, a shimmer of pink gently blanketing the Tyrantrum as she snatches this opportunity by the limb. With a rather wide swing, she rams the broken tusk into their side with all of her might, driving it deep under their armour by putting her full weight into the motion.[break][break]

It's a rather grisly sight, but one that she can't quite tear her eyes from all the same. And though she may not look directly at Navy, she shakes her head in silent awe.[break][break]

This is definitely one of those days that will be recounted to others if she's ever given the chance.

“Holy smokes…” Nature is brutal. This world brings Great Tusk to its natural conclusion. The strong survive. The weak are crushed. “Eris…geez. I’d tell you to look away but this is too crazy.” The beast finally goes limp. All of the Great Mother’s children raise up a cry of triumph. Swarming around her, they nuzzle at her feet. At the edge of the clearing, the Totodile and their own papa Feraligatr show up and clap as well.[break][break]
Tyrantrum turns, huffing and looking at the two of them. Her eyes size Eris and Navy up, wondering what to do with them. When her children see this, they start fussing with her in a language unknown to humans. They point their snouts at Eris, then to Navy, then down to the cracks formed in the earth. Tyrantrum’s eyes soften. Turning away, she stalks off into the jungle.[break][break]
Most of her children follow after her. One waits, gives them a bow, and scurries off. They’re just creatures born of the fog. Overhead, an Aerodactyl cries. Navy thinks of howard slayte.[break][break]
“This thing shouldn’t exist, should it?” He goes up to the Great Tusk where it lays slain.[break][break]
"Not a biologist but…seems all wrong, doesn’t it?”

Her hand balls tight into a fist, then relaxes as she lets out a breath. Now's not the time.[break][break]

Little hands brush against her hair, Mesprit's whole weight soon resting upon her head and drawing her back to the moment. Blinking at the polite little Tyrunt, she'll wave it goodbye before turning her attention towards the felled beast. Since Navy deems it safe to approach, she's following close behind, reaching out to touch its trunk.[break][break]

Tough as metal and scratched up by all kinds of past scuffles it must have tangled itself up in. For a moment, she wonders if this is real or simply a sensation fuelled by her own expectations.[break][break]

What about the thing on the cover of his book, which looks so like his Cyclizar? Questions, he suspects, that will not be answered today. Woe be upon them both if they encounter something powerful in these woods.[break][break]
“Kinda wouldn’t mind catching one.” His eyes light up with mischief. They’re already here. Who knows how long they have before the interdream mist fades and this returns to being just another empty room?[break][break]
