They’re going to catch onto this little song and dance routine eventually. He’s got one more round of chaos left in him before they wise up and jump him with a beast hit squad. As much as he relishes the notion of fighting a few beasts, taking them out, tossing them down before the council, he contents himself to make this last round count.[break][break]
“Nice mask.” He says to a woman when his Roaring Moon drops him off on another ship. “Your men and you are welcome to evacuate if you want. Don’t really wanna hurt any people. Just wanna destroy your equipment.” He has a terrible habit of being cordial with women, even when he really shouldn’t.[break][break]

She was, in fact, wearing an actual mask this time - a black one, simple, almost medical in nature. It covered the entire bottom half of her face, and her pink hair had been tied back and shoved beneath a hat.[break][break]
The stranger's declaration was an unwelcome intrusion, and she whirled around to face him, frustration rising: she'd requested back-up for this particular ship - she had important experiments she was hoping to run on the energy resonating from the mysterious new island - but for reasons unbeknownst to her, none had arrived. It worried her; what could possibly be occupying her leadership's attention so thoroughly?[break][break]
We're outnumbered, she thought - because that's how it always seemed to be.[break][break]
A voice nagged at the back of her mind - the same voice that had insisted that the Ancient Tomb had been a distraction, a way to keep the League and Rocket busy while the DRK Triad enacted its enigmatic plans. Had this island manifested for a similar purpose?[break][break]
"Ah, but you see, this equipment was very expensive and difficult to procure," she explained calmly. "So I'm afraid I can't let you do that."[break][break]
All around Navy, Unown began to pop into existence, their singular eyes fixated on him.

“Guess we’re at an impasse, then.” Unown stare at him. They seem to stare through him. Simple as these Pokemon are in concept, few frighten him as much as the Unown. It is, after all, man’s natural instinct to fear that which he doesn’t understand.[break][break]
Praying that doesn’t show on his face, he moves a hand to one of the six pokeballs resting on his belt. Part of him wonders if this is some sort of feint. Unown look scary, but that’s about the extent of their capabilities. Is she trying to lure him into some false sense of security, only to take him off guard? He doesn’t know what he’s dealing with beneath the mask.[break][break]
“Equipment can be replaced. Lives can’t. I’ve got my orders. Don’t wanna hurt you or yours.”[break][break]
He sends out two pokemon. They’re both leaders, but they couldn’t be more different from one another. Tormund is a Perrserker who looks up at the Unown with a grin. In the face of something beyond him, he grins like a fool. Kurosawa sits and observes, emboldened by Tormund’s steely spirit.[break][break]
“Keep ‘em busy, Tormund!” And what does the Perrserker do when given that order, faced with the DNA of reality itself? He bends over, turns to look at them, and wags his tail.[break][break]
“Heh heh heh. Har!”[break][break]
Navy and Kurosawa roll their eyes in unison, right before the Kingambit dives towards some of the equipment on deck. His iron head means business, the blade perched there sharp enough to cut most anything.

Her intimidation tactic worked - sort of. Surrounded by Unown, the man himself slowed, caution coloring his body language, his expression turning wary. The Pokemon he released, however, were undeterred. Either they were unfamiliar with Unown or they were very well-trained in keeping their composure. She had a feeling it might be a little of both.[break][break]
Unown were more than creepy sentinels, however. And Nomi did not intend to let her equipment get smashed.[break][break]
Activating the Tera Orb at her hip, Alpha - the Unown-A - began to shimmer with a bright white light. Its body crystallized, covered-over by rutilated quartz as it terastallized. Alpha disappeared in a sudden blink, then reappeared next to the equipment crates. It wasted no time sending a chilly ICE TERA BLAST at the Kingambit, hoping to freeze it in place before it could finish its attack.[break][break]
"I, also, would rather not hurt you," Nomi told the man truthfully. "But sometimes, pain is inevitable."[break][break]
All around him, the rest of her Unown began to glow.

Kurosawa stops just short of the equipment. His momentum stops when ice wraps around his legs. Huffing, he wastes no time. One of these Pokemon is exceptionally well-trained. The natural pride of a Kingambit helps. Bisharps do not involve idly. His pointed hands jab at the ice, trying to free himself. Leaning down, he scrapes his blade against the floor.[break][break]
Navy feels a shiver run down his spine at the metal sound. That move’s the one downside of training steel types. Looking at the Unown, he starts to back up. Whatever they’re about to do, he wants no part of it.[break][break]
“Har!” Unfortunately, he’s brought a lovable idiot into this battle. Tormund’s the other side of the coin. He simply doesn’t know what he’s dealing with. Jumping on Navy’s shoulders, he waves up at the eyes.[break][break]
“Wish—wish we were having this conversation a decade ago. Could’ve used that advice then.” Like so many men before and after him, he faces conflict with good humor. It’s better than screaming into the void, he supposes. Tormund ruffles his trainer’s hair, thinking the man’s talking to him.[break][break]
“Haaaar!” The cat jumps, running across the deck, taunting the unown to leave the human alone and come play.

The TAUNT worked - the Unown, captivated by the ridiculous nature of the Perrserker, turned their charging symbolic bodies away from the man accosting Nomi and aimed at it instead. Five beams of HIDDEN POWER blasted forth towards the pesky feline, reminiscent of a laser show. Perhaps in a different context, it would have been a lovely sight.[break][break]
Nomi narrowed her eyes, clearly identifying the distraction tactic. "That's a clever Perrserker you've got," she conceded. "But also foolish - five on one does not seem like ideal odds, hm?"[break][break]
The equipment was still her priority. She glanced at it, weighing her options. The Kingambit was beginning to free itself from the ice, so Nomi motioned for Alpha to attack again. Then she focused on the crates - she did have a backup plan, a way of protecting them no matter what the man tried. If she went through with it, however, and the man got away, he would be able to report to the League that he'd encountered a Rocket with strange powers - Avatar-like powers.[break][break]
What does it matter? Isaac already knows, and he's one of them now.[break][break]
That thought left a bitter taste in her mouth. She frowned. Once, she would have laughed at the idea of Isaac betraying her, but now...[break][break]
A familiar anger welled in the pit of her stomach.[break][break]
"Leave," she commanded the man, hardening her tone. "You have no idea what I am capable of."[break][break]
A second ICE TERA BLAST rocketed towards the Kingambit.

“Clever’s a nice word for stupid.” He says with the smile of a man facing bad odds.[break][break]
But he’s never backed down from anything in his life. That’s what he tells himself. There’s never been a fight he won’t see through to its conclusion. Before the hour’s out, it will get him killed by Lugia’s bloody harbinger.[break][break]
“Starting to get the idea you might be right.” Kurosawa’s built to withstand damage. No Kingambit evolves idly. He climbed to sit on a throne of blood over the bodies of his lessers. Yet still, these Unown are getting to him. Alpha’s tera blast strikes, and strikes true.[break][break]
Only the sheriff’s fast hand saves Kurosawa from being frozen to death. He’s transformed into red energy and recalled just in the nick of time. The shogun is out of the fight for the day, but he’ll live. Like so many of Navy’s other cohorts, he’ll have to spend a few weeks in intensive care before he’s ready to resume active duty.[break][break]
Tormund hisses, a defensive edge to the sound. Between the multicolored light show of five Unown and the way they rock his world, he isn’t looking so hot. He is his trainer’s Pokemon, and he also doesn’t know when to quit. He strikes with feline grace, his iron head lashing across the Unown.[break][break]
It’s a losing proposition, this fight. Women do this to him. He can’t keep his head on straight. Between that and the dawning recognition of what he’s dealing with, he’s not in the right headspace for this battle.[break][break]
How many trainers has he given speeches about this? If you lose your cool in a fight, you’ve lost. Typical of the League, he can’t practice what he preaches.[break][break]
“And you’d let me go, just like that?” He asks with a skeptical voice, eying the shore behind them. “Aren’t we supposed to be enemies?”

Alpha drifted closer to Nomi's precious cargo, turning its unblinking, neutral eye on her adversary, still shimmering with frost-white power in the wake of the Kingambit's defeat. It would continue to defend her equipment no matter what Navy tried next.[break][break]
In response to his comment, however, Nomi actually laughed. It was strained - part genuine amusement, part exasperation.[break][break]
"Enemies? No, you aren't my enemy." Her tone was matter-of-fact. "My enemy is the DRK Triad. You are merely a nuisance delaying me."[break][break]
A formidable nuisance, however. A flash of energy caught her attention, and Nomi watched as Vin fell to the deck of the ship, struck head-on by the foolhardy Perrseker's ambitious attack. It had risked getting hit by several beams of HIDDEN POWER to take out just one of her Unown. She recalled the Unown-V to its Pokeball, sighing softly. This only further emphasized her point.[break][break]
"You're fighting a losing battle with me, when you could be aiding the region by focusing your efforts on what actually plagues us. The conflict between the League and Rocket feels like a well-orchestrated distraction, no?"[break][break]
Nomi began walking calmly towards the crates, hoping her speech would keep his attention long enough for her to reach them.[break][break]
"So yes, I would let you go. Make yourself useful elsewhere. Leave me and my colleagues alone. I seek only discovery, not the deaths of League gym leaders."[break][break]
That wouldn't stop her from hurting him, however. If that's what it took. Her remaining Unown began to charge once more, targeting the Perrserker. Tormund could try to pick them off one by one, but in the end, she would simply release more Unown, for she had the entire alphabet at her disposal. They would be more than enough to counter anything else Navy threw at her.[break][break]

Tormund’s response to her words is the same he’d give to any human: a hiss. He’ll do this all day if that’s how this has to go.[break][break]
“Tormund, back to me.” Navy says. The Perrserker turns his head just enough for one eye to regard his trainer. Navy doesn’t look defeated. If anything, his eyes carry more certainty than they did before. “The lady’s right.”[break][break]
Pulling out the great ball used to catch the Meowth offshoot, he recalls the warrior with a single press of a button. Now it’s just the two of them. Them, and an army of Unown. He doesn’t leave. Not yet. Whatever she’s doing, he’s sure she can manage a few more words while she carries on her business.[break][break]
“You’re not the first person to bring them up. Still sounds just as crazy to me as when I first heard about ‘em.” It’s near impossible for a street kid from Slateport to wrap his head around such high concepts. They bring death. Not just for the League or Rocket, but for everyone living in this world.[break][break]
“But if you’re right, got a question: what can I do? I’m not some genius like most of the League. I’m just a fighter. All I know how to do’s swing my fists. What can a person like that do to stop the heat death of the universe?” Perhaps preempting an obvious answer, he smiles. “Besides staying out of your way.”

He recalled the Perrserker with a flash of light and did not summon another fighter. Instead, he left himself vulnerable, in pursuit of answers rather than spilled blood.[break][break]
Which, naturally, earned her respect.[break][break]
Nomi stopped once she'd reached her equipment, then turned towards her former adversary and relaxed her stance. She held up a hand, telepathically commanding her Unown to stand down. The Terastallized Alpha blinked to her side, the rest of the small army of Unown floating over to hover above the stacked crates.[break][break]
"Now you are asking the right question," she smiled back, and though her mask hid most of the expression, her eyes conveyed her approval. "You don't have to be a genius. All you have to do is pay attention."[break][break]
Nomi glanced at the island ahead of the ship: a place brimming with possibility turned faction warfront. It was much closer than it had been. As their so-called battle had taken place, the ship had reached its destination.[break][break]
"When you rejoin your comrades on the island, if you encounter any Unown that are not with me - that are not with Rocket - you should take heed. They are likely spies for the DRK Triad. I am doing my best to win them all to my side, but until I can convince them, they will herald the arrival of Hoenn's greatest threat."[break][break]
She regarded the man before her, weighing his merit.[break][break]
"And when you inevitably report to your superiors that there is an Avatar of the Unown allied with Rocket, tell them that she is one of the only things standing between that threat and Hoenn."[break][break]
She smiled once more, and subtly touched her hand to the crates.[break][break]
"Tell them that the Unown call me The Visionary, and I am not your enemy - so long as you keep that promise of not getting in my way."[break][break]
And then, willing reality to bend to her will, Nomi, her Unown, and her equipment simply disappeared, teleporting off the ship and onto the island in the blink of an eye.
