As busy as she was with making preparations to take Rustboro's Ranger Captain seat, she needed to take a day off for her own personal health. The green-haired, lithe girl felt there was no better way to enjoy herself than an aimless joy ride across Hoenn, and who better to do that with than Mika Nakayama , a new recruit Elite Ranger Devlin had referred to her? She wasn't going to make it easy, though; her ride Pokémon were unusual, and some of them required quite strong lower bodies to stay astride.

"It really is," Shalin replied, twirling a pair of Poké Balls in her hand before clicking their switches. From them emerged a pair of flying bug Pokémon of great size: the first, a Shiny Beedrill; the second, a Scyther, both of which towered above her by at least a full foot. "These two are Queen Zing and Hayabusa," the Sygna Suited Ranger introduced the insects, the male spreading his foreleg blades as though he was ready to run. The female waved the flat of one of her foreleg stings toward Mika in greeting, crawling toward her as though she was inviting her to climb on.

"Great to meet you and your partner!" Shalin chirped before introducing herself. "Shalin, wildest Pokémon rider in Hoenn!" The braggart was more than able to back that claim up, even without her suit on. With it on, she could perform some...incredible feats. Feats she was fairly certain no one else in Hoenn could. Shalin walked next to Hayabusa and put her hand on top of the Scyther's saddle. While many wanted to rein up the flying mantis with the speed of a ninja, it took a true expert to fit the bug-type with a saddle, and great skill to remain balanced on one, whether darting across the land or soaring through the air.

"It's okay!" she answered with a smile. "Queen Zing loves flying with guests aboard her. There are times I wish she could carry two people, but she's only strong enough for one at a time." With her body shape that was a little strange for a mount, where would another rider even sit, anyway? Any farther back and the wings would blast the rider with an airstream more than capable of dismounting them.

Hayabusa and Shalin joined Mika, the girl vaulting atop the Scyther, who spread his twin blades in excitement. "Where you headed, if I may ask? Queen Zing might be able to get you there faster."

"Wait, you'll need these!" Shalin attempted to stop her before she got settled in on her Pokémon. In her hand were a pair of earplugs. "I always keep spares on me. Unless you want to lose your hearing, you'll want to wear these." She would put her own pair in, too, once Mika looked comfortable and ready.

A strong tingling sensation would course through the two bug-types as they leaped into the air, their wings buzzing loudly enough that they could be clearly heard even with the ear protection. Without it, their ears would surely be ringing from the sheer volume of the menacing-sounding buzzing. The vibration would be much less overwhelming once the two were in the air, the earth not reflecting the force of the rapidly-beating wings.

Shalin directed Hayabusa not far in front of Mika in an effort to demonstrate to her how to control the Beedrill. If she was observant, it would be clear that the way the giant bug was controlled was to think of the reins like long cords attached to a joystick. Pulling straight back with just one hand would cause the wasp to turn in that direction, pulling back with both would cause her to climb, and dropping pressure with them would cause her to descend.

Some of Shalin's hair stood on end beneath her suit, too. While Hayabusa's wings didn't reach the jaw-dropping speeds Queen Zing's did, they had a lot more power behind them. She made a note not to ride Hayabusa without her Sygna Suit on; she could even feel the tingling through her suit's protections against it. The vibration would have to be numbing without it.

Shalin reined the Scyther upward, letting Queen Zing pass them to allow her to observe how Mika was handling the Beedrill. While it was hard to tell if she was having fun, she at least had a grasp on how to control the flying insect. She was happy they were going at a good clip in chasing down the Corviknight. As much as Shalin wanted one, it seemed Mika didn't have a flying Pokémon at all. The steel-type was also, for lack of a better word, mundane for her tastes. She didn't just want to travel Hoenn; she wanted to do so in style. She gave a thumbs-up to Mika for her catch before flying next to her again, making sure to leave enough distance between them so their buzzing wings wouldn't crash into one another.

The two green Pokémon bumbled and zipped above the rainforest, Shalin happy to see Mika had a ride Pokémon of her own now. One that was fairly easy to learn with, too - while Corviknight weren't the most beginner-friendly birds, they were enough so. More so than the Beedrill she was seated on, that much was for certain. If she could handle the bobbing and swerving of the giant, green wasp, she could easily handle the steel-type.

Seeing Mika was having fun, Shalin squeezed Hayabusa's sides briefly, the Scyther picking up the pace. The droning noise the insect's made grew in pitch, having to churn them faster to maintain the swifter pace. Queen Zing followed Hayabusa's accelerated pace, wind blowing in Mika's face a little harder than it did before. The Shiny Beedrill's wings sounded a high-pitched whine for a few seconds, trying to get a rise out of Mika from briefly from a tingling sensation caused by her wings vibrating too fast for the eye to see.
