The boy was nervous; he could tell that. Probably not too comfortable with riding a Pokémon, especially not one that was uncommon.

He watched Josh and the boy interact from his peripheral vision but was more focused on seeing how Mistral was holding up to give his own input. The bird Pokémon seemed okay, if not a little annoyed. It would probably be best to allow her to rest for a bit and send out a different Pokémon.

When Josh turned his attention to him, he listened to what the older male had to say. That made sense. They would be in safer territory once they crossed the lake. For now, their main focus should be finding his father. And splitting up, with one being in the sky and one continuing the search on the ground, did seem like the fastest way to find the boy's dad.

“Okay, I’ll be sure to stay on guard as well. We’re still not sure if the Croconaw spooked his father or if something else could’ve spooked him,” he pointed out as he returned Mistral to her pokeball before releasing Mirage and Royal from their Poké Balls. There were only a few reasons the father hadn’t returned to his son: fear, getting lost, or being hurt somewhere and unable to move.

Pushing worst-case scenarios out of his mind, he turned his attention to Royal. “I want you to go that way. We’re looking for a missing person. Your keen eyesight might come in handy for this. Search from the trees to give yourself a better vantage point,” he ordered, pointing to the right. Royal didn’t do anything but scurry up one of the trees and take off in the indicated direction.

Once Royal had gone to do as told, he would turn his attention to Mirage. “We’ll look in the opposite direction,” he would tell the fox Pokémon as he swung himself into the saddle. Once he was secure, they would head in the opposite direction of where Royal had gone.[break] Josh Devlin

The two Rangers had many sets of eyes out for the missing father. It would only be a matter of time before Absalom and Josh found the missing father. It was just a matter of where.

In the meantime, the boy's fear had turned to joy as soon as he found that the Manectric wasn't running nearly as fast as the species was known for. He was having fun bouncing up and down in Saber's saddle, guiding the electric wolf to the fastest trot Josh had allowed. It certainly made the time pass faster while waiting for the Mauville Ranger to return alongside his trainee.

Josh had circled his section of the island a few times, but came up empty-handed. "It's Devlin. Any luck so far? None on my side so far, over," the Elite radioed to Absalom. Perhaps the trainee would have better luck. It would certainly look good on the younger one's resume, were he the one to carry Josh through the assignment instead. If that wound up being the case, he would make sure to put a good word in to his boss.

Keeping in mind that the sun was positioned over his left shoulder, he trekked further in the direction he had chosen. So far, he hadn't seen anything, nor had Mirage sensed anything, making him frown. As Mirage scented the air once more, he scanned the undergrowth with a sharp gaze. Still nothing.

Perhaps Josh or Royal were having more luck.

As if thinking about him had summoned him, the elite ranger's voice sounded over the comms.

"Nothing yet, I'm going to meet back up with Royal though. Perhaps he has found something, over."
[break][break]
With that said, he guided Mirage to go back in the direction they had come from. He passed the spot he had last seen Royal in and was heading in the direction Royal had been heading in when Mirage suddenly perked up.

Before he could even think of inquiring what was up, Mirage suddenly picked up his pace, catching him off guard. Luckily, more than used to Mirage's fast speed, he was able to quickly recover.

Soon enough, thanks to looking up, he spotted the end of Royal's tail in a tree. Urging Mirage to slow down, they slowed to a stop before he swung himself off the back of his fox companion.

Crouching on the ground, he eyed it closely before running a hand over the ground. Just like he had thought, the ground had been disturbed here. Looked like footprints, but so many things had passed over them since then, they were hard to make out.

Before he could think too much on it, Royal rejoined him, tugging on his sleeve. "Got something?" he asked as he got up, following after Royal.

Upon being led to the base of the tree, he looked up to see a man about halfway up the tree. Seeing no easy way up the tree, at least not when it came to someone like himself, he released Mistral out of her pokeball and used her to fly up until he was level with the branch he was on to confirm some things.

After confirming some things, he radioed Josh back.

"Royal found him, apparently he had climbed a tree to get away and now he can't get down. Fear of heights maybe, over."[break] Josh Devlin

"Excellent," Josh replied with an audible sigh of relief. "I've got the young one secured. Rendezvous at my coordinates. Over and out." Once the young Elite gave his orders, he stowed his radio and directed his attention to the boy. "Hey, I know you're having fun with Saber, but we'll need to fly to get off the island and get you back home to Fortree. Have you ridden a flying Pokémon before?" The child nodded in the affirmative. "Wow, I'm impressed. Then you should have no trouble handling Pazuzu." He dismounted the Pidgeot and sent out a Kilowattrel, the electric bird also wearing a saddle on his back.

The boy seemed to be having trouble climbing the giant bird. When Josh noticed it, he gave the little guy a boost, more easily letting him sit in the Pidgeot's comfortable seat. The Gym Leader got on Etali's back and waited for absalom steel to return. Once they were back, he would make sure everyone had a water or flying Pokémon to cross the lake north toward Fortree. Provided everyone had adequate transportation, they would be able to make it back to Fortree without incident.

"Will do," he said before signing off. Once he had, he would turn his attention to the father. "Hey, I promise I'll help you get down. Just do everything I tell you, and I promise you'll get safely out of the tree and be reunited with your son."

The father was scared and still seemed uncertain. He could see that. However, the older male finally seemed to put some faith in him, and reluctantly, he nodded.

"Good," he said, not bothering to hide his relief.

Slowly descending, he told the older male exactly how to place his hands and where to put his feet as he began to help him climb down. It was slow going, with him having to coax him to continue a few times before the older male eventually found himself on the ground once more.

Not bothering with verbal praise, he simply nodded to the older male as he got off Mistral, returning her to her Pokéball as he swung himself into Mirage's saddle. Once settled, he would take out another Pokéball, releasing Gemini from his Pokéball.

Seeming relieved that he wouldn't be faced with riding an unusual mount, it didn't take much coaxing to get him to get on Gemini. Only after he was sure the boy's father was settled would he urge Mirage to start moving, Gemini immediately following after them as they made their way to the meeting spot.[break] Josh Devlin
