The waters of Route 105 remained still and smooth as black glass, the Rocket submarines silently proceeding undetected by the Rangers as they moved to approach the shore.[break][break]

Elisabeth hadn't stayed within hers for long. Her attention was diverted elsewhere.[break][break]

Slipping out in a wetsuit, she'd dived into the depths of the sea with her Tentacruel by her side, disinterested in playing the part of a God General to Rocket forces. She'd handed that role to the Beasts who relished in such a thing; solitary pursuits interested her most, this mission.[break][break]

When she broke the surface of the water again to breathe, she'd anticipated being alone in the craggy caverns that rounded the mysterious island. Rising up from the rock-strewn pool, she took a moment to orient herself as her Tentacruel kept guard with beady red eyes.[break][break]

Surely no Ranger would be foolish enough to venture into this dangerous side of the reef, she reasoned.

Choking back a pained groan, Jack bandaged his wounded ribs from where the masked Rocket had sent him crashing into the rocks. His wracking sobs had long since finished echoing from the rocky surfaces of the cavern, leaving behind only the pain of his injuries and the cold dampness of the cavern. When Mismagius' phantom force had spirited Jack away from the masked rocket he hadn't cared what this cave was, he was only thankful for a quiet place to grieve the loss of Torterra. After he had cried away his tears, he pushed himself out of the blood pooled beneath him and began the work of getting himself back into shape with his Gyarados standing guard over him. Desperation prickled his every thought; with Poe's injury and the death of both Ampharos and Torterra, Jack knew he needed to bind his wounds get back to the main body of League forces before he sustained further losses.[break][break]

When the splash of water and sounds of movement broke the pattern of otherwise monotonous drips within the cavern, Jack heaved himself warily to his feet. Panic gripped him that the masked Rocket had somehow followed him here but when he rounded the corner, it was a woman standing there with a wetsuit and no disguise. Jack opened his mouth to admonish the civilian diver to leave the area until her facial features registered with the force of a draco meteor. He was face-to-face with known and wanted criminal Elisabeth Fiorelli.[break][break]

"Surrender at once and you will be taken into custody without harm," Jack commanded, his voice holding steady even as icy fingers of panic squeezed down on his rapidly beating heart.

She swiveled about to face him, appearing almost serpentine in her hissing disdain. Black hair, slick with water, covered her face like some hateful sea-creature as her mouth split into a grin.[break][break]

Openly, she laughed at him. "Me, surrender?"[break][break]

The sheer audacity of such an ask.[break][break]

Arrogance overwhelmed her as she laughed, her Tentacruel making its way towards him with tentacles that sent faint tremors through the ground in its approach.[break][break]

"You don't become an underboss by surrendering to your enemies, boy. Let me show you why."[break][break]

A piercing SUPERSONIC cut through the dripping ambience of the cove, seeking to disorient Pokemon and trainer alike.

Gyarados roared to intimidate the Tentacruel but before he could attack, the enemy pokemon's supersonic echoed chaotically in the cavern, sending Jack to his knees with his hands over his ears and his stomach churning. Beside him, his Gyarados swung his head around wildly clearly confused by the noise.[break][break]

These Rockets attack trainer and pokemon alike, with no respect for anyone's life. The image of his Torterra bleeding into the sand as the masked figure kneeled over him with a knife flashed back into his mind and he forced himself back to his feet. Fire burned along his injured ribs as Jack shouted "Enough!" at Elisabeth and her pokemon. I'm not taking chances on a fair fight anymore, he thought to himself as he reached into his pocket and jammed his finger to the keystone set into his compass.[break][break]

White light suffused the cavern, wrapping into a shell around Gyarados until it shattered to reveal Mega Gyarados. "Hurricane, now!" Jack ordered, before adding, "Both of them!" The Atrocious Pokemon reared back before sending whirling gusts of wind at the Tentacruel and Rocket alike.

Something had hardened in his expression -- subtle, but enough it caught her attention.[break][break]

"I see you're finally taking this seriously," she commented, and that's when the howling winds began.[break][break]

The unnatural storm of his HURRICANE swirled about them, whipping rain and thunder in a frenzy overhead. Covering itself, her Tentacruel wielded ACID ARMOR to defend against the glancing blow, weathering the damage with a low hiss of discontent.[break][break]

Elisabeth herself summoned a wall of seaweed up from the cove's pool, looming over her like some inanimate swamp-thing to absorb whatever harm meant to come her way.[break][break]

It dissipated and slithered back into the pool the moment she believed herself safe again, and she glanced up at him, eyes narrowing.[break][break]

"I'll offer you a generous deal of my own, Ranger. Let me pass, and I'll let you live."

Jack's eyebrows would have climbed into his hair in shock if blood hadn't crusted over his forehead so badly as to keep them in place. This Rocket just summoned seaweed to protect herself. Jack had heard some talk about trainers gaining strange powers through a bond with legendary pokemon but he had never seen it before - never even thought he would see it. The wild winds battered against the plant life protecting her to no avail.[break][break]

At Elisa's offer to let him live, Jack's blood burned hot as his heart pumped the corrosive toxin of hatred around his body. In response, he only spat. The bloody saliva splattered messily on the cavern floor near his feet as he stared implacably at the enemy.[break][break]

Moving his hand suddenly, Jack signaled and Mega Gyarados darted forward with unnatural speed, it's maw opening wide to crunch the Tentacruel.

The enormous, serpentine Mega-Gyarados opened its terrible maw, the sickening CRUNCH of its fangs slicing through soft gelatinous tissue. Blood spurted where sharp teeth met flesh, and the Tentacruel thrashed its tentacles about in rage, WRAPPING against the GYRADAOS in a bid to throw them both to their mutual destruction.[break][break]

The tussle between giants shook the cove's cavernous interior with each quaking movement, sending rock and stone falling from above in an artificial ROCK SLIDE worsened by the HURRICANE that had come before. All at once, the seaweed that the underboss had summoned around herself leapt upwards, forming a sort of plant-like dome that shielded her from the sudden cascade of rubble.[break][break]

"You insolent..." Her hissing retort drowned out in the sound of the unstable terrain, swallowed by the uncertainty of their surroundings. "You'll kill us both."[break][break]

Subtly, her stance shifted from one of aggression to defense. She was preparing to retreat, and her body language betrayed her.

Elisa's posture had shifted and Jack knew he had her on the back foot now. He might have smirked if his lip wasn't split in multiple places and the wound in his shoulder wasn't sending waves of lighting searing across his nerves. Instead, his eyes simply hardened as a boulder broke loose from the ceiling, spraying him with chips of stone as it crashed to the floor nearby.[break][break]

"My luck had to run out sometime," he called back to Elisa with resolution in his voice as her dome of seaweed deflected another hail of rock. "Finish this, Gyarados."[break][break]

A chill filled the air as frost rimed Mega Gyarados' fangs before it plunged each ice fang down into the Tentacruel in a sickening crunch. Their combined struggle sent them slamming into the stone again and again as Gyarados bit down harder, his fangs slowly sinking deeper into the enemy pokemon even as their titanic battle shook down a new rain of stone.

Was he deaf? Was he blind? His actions only threw their already precarious predicament into further turmoil, the frost glistening off the Gyarados's ICE FANGS purpling the Tentacruel's festering wound. As it attempted to silence its opponent with the WRAP of its arms, the colossal cnidarian toppled over, caught by a shard of rock. It sliced through the tentacles that sought to hold the Gyarados fast, freeing it from its hold as the Tentacruel began to collapse on the ground -- towards not the man who had felled it, but Elisabeth Fiorelli.[break][break]

"Merde--!"[break][break]

The Kalosian curse was all she could manage to say as the seaweed dome finally shattered, unable to hold back the Tentacruel in its towering descent. It staggered forward as the underboss leapt back, only for a large tentacle to come crashing down on her arm as she raised it to defend herself. The sickening sound of impact on bone reverberated in the chamber as the dead Pokemon took its final pound of flesh from its own trainer, keeling over in a still and lifeless heap.[break][break]

Hateful carmine eyes stole towards the Ranger across from her, memorizing his every feature with an uncanny precision.[break][break]

"You'll regret that, Ranger. I have a tendency to hold onto grudges, you see."[break][break]

Her Butterfree emerged from her Pokeball, whisking her away in a TELEPORT before he could detain her further.[break][break]

She had more important men to ruin, but she'd remember this one, later.

"Get fucked," Jack sighed in rebuttal to Elisa's parting threat but her form was already disintegrating into the telltale signs of a teleport.[break][break]

A burst of white light signaled Gyarados's return to normalcy as the mega energy drained out of him and Jack extended his good arm, holding the empty pokeball out for Gyarados to return. The Atrocious Pokemon re-entered the pokeball in a beam of red light just as a large rock dislodged from the ceiling, smashing into Jack's wrist with a resounding crack of breaking bone and sent the pokeball, and the pokemon inside, rolling away across the cavern floor.[break][break]

Jack dived after it, scrambling across the ground with his broken wrist and wounded shoulder, desperately trying to grab the pokeball so he could teleport to safety. As his hand finally grasped the smooth surface of the sphere the cavern gave a final enormous shudder. Jack could only curl protectively around the pokeball as heavy stone collapsed around him in a deafening cacophony.[break][break]

Silence surrounded him as he tentatively twitched first a foot and then the hand on his unbroken wrist, feeling that they were free of any imprisoning rubble, though the stone pressed in close around him. When he opened his eyes the darkness and closeness of the stone pressed down on his eyeballs, though he could feel a warm presence hovering over him. Quickly, he reached for his belt to release Mismagius and in an instant her phantom force pulled them through the darkness into the late afternoon of the island's shore. In the daylight, Jack crawled from beneath his Bastiodon, the pokemon's head tilted back from where it had deflected the rock falling from the ceiling and shielded Jack from the collapse. The pokemon silently collapsed, it's shattered neck vertebrae obvious even through the bloody lacerations Bastiodon bore on his face and body.[break][break]

Jack collapsed against the side of his Bastiodon's unmoving body, wracked with quiet sobs and tears that cleared trails down his bloodied cheeks while his Mismagius floated over them like a silent sentinel.
