With a smirk, Ryoto claimed the Duskull he'd just caught. Committing a nickname to memory, he'd place the ball back on his belt. Bonky, his Tinkaton companion, made a nice clean path for her trainer to reach the upper levels of the Sky Pillar. With a moment to take in the sights, the aspiring thief would look over the ledge of a waist-high wall. "Whew, that's a long way down." The wide horizon of trees and Pokemon far off in the distance really put the world in a different perspective.

[break][break]Backing off from the edge, Ryoto would turn to pat his Tinkaton on the head, who looked proud at herself for giving that Duskull a good wallop. "Not exactly what we were looking for, but I think our little team is coming along nicely." At this point, Ryoto would glance back at the rubble created by his Tinkaton. Given what was probably some sort of spiritual holy ground, he started to wonder if there was anything within these walls worth stealing. Though, if there was, it was probably looted long ago, so he didn't expect much.

A dragon never truly could be tamed.

That was something Josh had learned the hard way at Dewford. Several of his dragons had acted on their own accord, refusing to listen to the nonverbal commands Josh gave them through their reins. Unlike many other perfectly loyal Pokémon he owned, dragons had a sense of pride and autonomy to them. To them, commands were a suggestion, not an order. He pondered the possibility that the medicine was not the reason for his yawning Salamence's laziness, but perhaps the bond of trust between them having eroded in the moment.

It was a bond that he had to build back up not only with Yosei, but the rest of his dragons.

He would be facing one of his dragon-related fears today. Not far up the Sky Pillar, Ryoto may have been able to hear a sound much like an insect Pokémon's wings buzzing. If he were to peer in that direction, he would be able to see a Flygon flying on seemingly phantom wings, a distressed-looking black haired man on the dragon's back. It looked like he was holding on for his life as the green, insectile dragon's wings hummed all the louder.

"Hm?" Ryoto turned to look further up the tower, where he'd witnessed what looked like a distressed Flygon. Wondering if it would make a suitable aerial scout, he considered trying to catch it, but the idea was quickly dismissed as he saw it wasn't alone. Seeing the man clinging hard on to Flygon, the Galarian just blinked a few times in disbelief. Was this guy trying to get himself killed?

[break][break]Bonky, noticing her trainer's curiosity, would turn to look at the Flygon as it was thrashing around. She'd raise her hammer, winding up for a baseball swing, with ample debris around them suitable for a devastating scattershot. This behavior was generally allowed by her Trainer, but this time around, Ryoto would place a hand on the top of the Tinkaton's hammer. "Not now, let's just watch." A little disappointed she wasn't allowed to splatter the Flygon, Bonky would lower her hammer. "Let's continue our climb, maybe we'll get to see something interesting..."

Flygon were unique among dragons in that they flew more like insects than dragons. It came with the benefit of nearly unlimited agility, but it also came with a loss of feeling for the rider in the cocoon, numbing vibration making his lower body feel like jelly. "Good enough, Verte!" Josh cried loudly enough for Ryoto Lupin to hear, the obedient dragon landing and letting the Gym Leader catch his breath.

How did Shalin Nariya do this, Sygna Suit or no?

Landing on the same level as Bonky, Verte took several steps back at the Fairy-type's apparent aggression that was being quashed by its trainer. "Sorry if we bothered you; Verte here is just trying to help me get stronger."

New to the region of Hoenn, there were a lot of faces he didn't know. That included the Gym Leader, whom he assumed was just a trainer who got a little in over his head. "That seems like an awfully dangerous way to get stronger, no? Well, to each their own." Ryoto threw his hands up nonchalantly, with his Tinkaton mirroring a similar gesture.

[break][break]Giving room for the man to respond, Ryoto would muse to himself, "Hmm..." Taking note of the Pokeballs in his possession, he was clearly a trainer, how good of one he was unsure of. Flygon was not weak by any means, so he wondered if he should be more guarded. Anyway, Ryoto stood there expecting some sort of explanation or embarrassing excuse, though, given they weren't in the safest of places, other Pokemon could show up any second.

"You have to be strong to ride a dragon," Josh explained, "especially a Flygon. If you're not ready, the vibration can just make you pass out or even fall entirely." It was more like the latter for the Gym Leader if their flight was any more intense. "Elite Ranger Devlin or Gym Leader Devlin, but I go by Josh," the dragon's rider introduced himself, "and he's Verte." The Flygon turned around and chirped toward Ryoto in greeting, waving a claw much like a human would a welcoming hand.

"You're one strong trainer to be able to make it to the Sky Pillar at all, let alone by yourself," the Master of Faster remarked, also keeping his eyes out for wild Pokémon. "The Pokémon around here can be really dangerous. There's still a dragon or two I'm looking for to make my Gym experience more complete. Is that what brings you out here?"

Ryoto shrugged off the question, "No, I've not come for a dragon. In fact, I think I'm satisfied with what I've caught." The thief would glance down at the Pokeball harboring the Duskull. Giving his Tinkaton a knowing look, he'd look back at Josh. "Well, you seem to know what you're doing, so I'll just be on my way." With this, he'd begin his descent back down the Sky Pillar, faster than his way up given all the shattered walls and passageways. As for what Josh would encounter at the top of the pillar, Ryoto would not stick around long enough for it to be an issue.

The Sky Pillar was one of the best places in Hoenn if in search of dragon Pokémon. Why would Ryoto come out here if not in search of dragons? Shaking his head, he turned to the traveler and said his goodbyes. As he was about to surge higher on the back of his Flygon, the Gym Leader groaned. "Gonna give you a rest, Verte. I think the vibration's starting to get to me." He swapped ride Pokémon for Sidewinder, his Dragapult with much smoother flight.

Vanishing in PHANTOM FORCE, Gym Leader and dragon surged skyward in the Sky Pillar's ethereal backdrop. Picking up tremendous speed, the Dragapult emerged from the ethereal behind a wild Haxorus that was roaming the top level. Knocking it to the ground, the enraged wild threw its head about, slicing and dicing at the phantom with DUAL CHOPS of its axe-blades.

Josh slid down from the saddle and let the dragons battle on their own, the Dragapult's extreme quickness lending himself the ability to remain out of the Haxorus' blade-and-claw range. The strobe light that was SIdewinder's CONFUSE RAY left the wild further disoriented. As it teetered dangerously close to the Sky Pillar's edge, Josh hurled a Poké Ball at the Haxorus, at the very least to keep it from suffering a nasty fall.
