there was a lovely chill in the air. it was her favorite time of year in hoenn, although it reminded her of her old shadow in a way that was bittersweet.[break][break]

they were in the outskirts of ever grande, a great place for hunting. while the glow of the city lit up the paths, in between were thick patches of trees that in the night provided plenty of coverage.[break][break]

in the dark, she waited, while her hypno remained closer to the road, barely within sight of any unfortunate passerby. a pendulum dangled from its finger at the ready, strategically catching the light cast by a nearby building, and creating a flashing effect from the shadows.[break][break]

entrancing eyes waited to be noticed.[break][break]

She’d always had weird fucking dreams, even before she took a rototiller to her brain. Dreams that made better stories, would make great books if she ever had the fortitude to sit down and focus on one thing long enough.

In this dream, she was both an older woman and a young girl, the former holding the latter hostage. She had a knife to her own throat. Across the way, with hands outstretched in silent plead and threat, was some sort of… forest god, all woad and knotted roots and sad eyes.

Do not hurt her. She is ours. Mine.

“I was yours once, too!” She-who-is-the-older-woman roars, clutching the blade in an unshaking hand, all fire and vengeance. “But you never came for me. You let me be taken.”

Next to her there is a man, his face shadowed, and he holds a young boy in a similar position, knife to throat. The man is important to her and the boy is important to she-who-is-the-girl.

This would all be rather normal if she was in bed, asleep… but she had, in fact, been walking home from dragon tending at freya morningstar’s Evergrande sanctuary, wide awake (if a little bit sleepy). She’d unknowingly walked through the Hypno’s dream stream, or whatever, and her mind had tripped easily into slumber. So while she played out this bizarre hostage situation, her flesh-and-blood body zombie-lumbered through the streets, as directed by Lulu Flint’s Pokemon.

A perfect place as any for Lulu Flint 's hunt. Evergrande City stays peaceful despite conflict in the region. Perhaps because they houses the League. But that's not the case tonight, is it? [break][break]

An unfortunate pattern. Well, parts of it. Some League personnel had disappeared and after a bit of looking for him, intel had dug up more strange reports. Lights flashing, people sleep walking. Some people had been found passed out on the streets. It makes sense and it doesn't. Regardless, a few agents are put to the task of overseeing the darker corners of the city. Paxton decides to join the watch, offering a few hours of insomniac clarity to the cause. [break][break]

Just as he's about to be relieved and be escorted home, he sees it. The distant blinking of lights in which he quickly looks away to check the vicinity. Was anyone else seeing this? Was he just tiredly hallucinating things? Spots of light from looking at the street lamp? [break][break]

He follows the blonde woman, staying tucked to the shadows in case he was just...the creep in this situation. He follows close for a few minutes, trying to get a look at her face but something is unnatural about her gait. Zombie like- a stumble here and there. It's not quite right. [break][break]

But just as she's about to smash her knees on a low iron bench ass she moved into the pitch dark of the park, he intervenes. A hand quickly grasping at her shoulder trying to move her just enough to side step the bench. "Wait-" he hissed, eyes on her knees more so than if she was in her right mind. He doubted but you know.

the ranger was not the only one there because of the covens of hypno. their swarm had allowed the scientist to leave behind sleeping bodies in random areas, with less fear of any deep investigation. people would assume it had been the wild pokemon, both authorities and victims alike–she just had to be careful.[break][break]

lulu’s own hypno met eyes with cygne. its pendulum swung, pulling her under the spell of hypnosis and then stepping along through the night, back towards the woods beyond the city. it beckoned her to follow off the road–even as the ranger joined her. if he dared peer in the direction she walked, he might be pulled into the same trance.[break][break]

two-for-one was good, but there was another plan, if he didn’t succumb. they only needed to be lured to allies in the darkness.[break][break]

She doesn’t wake. Her body stumbles ever forward, pulled by the psychic meathooks dug deep into her brain. Long hours of slicing it apart and piecing it back together have, apparently, made it a prime target for such things.

The image shifts. She’s standing alone in a shallow pool of water, surrounded by gunmetal gray and blistering, sterile white. She holds a paper bag in one hand, folded at the top-- inside are slips of paper, like fortune-cookie futures, but something about them is cursed, wrong. She keeps them inside and protects the populace from them. They’re all about her, anyhow.

She kicks out a leg and steps hard on Paxton’s foot. Accidentally, of course.

Still she ambles forward.

Paxton stumbles, his attention now entirely on Ana. "Hey!" he yelled as he reoiled form the woman. He knew you weren't supposed to abruptly wake up a sleep walker but this was starting to look like his only options. [break][break]

"You'll get hurt like that!" he shouted, as he knelt to protect his foot before jogging after the woman. He didn't want to touch her but at this point it may be the only ting that stops her forward momentum, so he reaches out to grab her wrist.

when they reached where the hypno was leading them, it was in the dark of the woods, away from the exposing glow of streetlights. she was there in the shadows, though hardly as invisible as it once would have made her. the ranger would be able to see her, if he had a good enough eye at night.[break][break]

it so happened that hypno’s two-for-one idea was not optimal. One at a time was good. This was tricky.[break][break]

she didn’t move at first, but then decided she could not hide herself well enough through this whole ordeal to go unnoticed. if she had any hope of getting a dream out of it still, she had to deal with him.[break][break]

stepping into what little light shone from the moon through the leaves, she addressed Paxton: ”i wasn’t expecting her to bring a friend. who are you?” [break][break]

all the while, the the hypno’s pendulumn swung in hopes to keep ana fell under.[break][break]

Paxton’s shrill cry bounces harmlessly off whatever spell she’s under. When he reaches to grab her wrist, she ricochets like a rubber band, head snapping one way, and then the other. All 5’8” and nigh 180 pounds of her dangles there, dead weight from his hold, leaning perilously to the side.

The Hypno’s spell holds, for now. But her closed eyes squeeze tighter shut as something akin to consciousness tries to fight to the surface.

Still she ambles forward.

Paxton is about to spit off the usual spiel before he remembered he was off the clock, permanently. He hadn't worked for the precinct in over a year but he still felt the urge to grab at something from his waist. He summons Joules instead. The shiny Magnezone beeps, all their eyes looking rapidly in different directions before locking onto Lulu Flint and the Hypno. [break][break]

"Landon Cassidy. Who're you?" he asked, glaring at the woman before lurching forward to keep ana fell from what he thought was collapsing on the ground. "Hey! hey, hey, hey, wake up!" he hissed before she continued forward. [break][break]

He snaps his glare back to Lulu. "What are you doing to her?" [break][break]

she considered leaving before her eyes went back to the woman in paxton’s arms, suddenly realizing the familiar features of her face.[break][break]

there was a brief silence from her before she pivoted, gaze snapping back to the man set on foiling her plan.[break][break]

”i’m helping her,” she lied. ”don’t you know you aren’t supposed to wake a sleepwalker?”[break][break]

a smile was offered, though there was something off about it. it didn't reach her eyes, which looked to be carefully calculating her next move.[break][break]

In her dreams, she pries her eyes open, sleep parting like a plastic film pulled taut, thinning over the curve of her cornea.

She’s still asleep, though a layer less deep. The world around her infringes on her dreams, peeking in at the edges; the buildings, the street, the forms of the people around her.
