Everyone agreed it was time to focus on landing. Oscar anxiously waited for the airlock to close so that he could get back into the ship, but after a few seconds he could tell that something was wrong. "Shit." He pressed the button that controlled the doors, gently at first and then frantically. "Shit shit shit! Oh I'm fucked!"

Oscar pressed himself against the wall, they were about to enter the moon's atmosphere and he was sitting with a first class view of oblivion. If he was not burnt up on the way in, he would surely die when the ship landed and he was launched like a rag doll out of the open airlock door. Even with lessened gravity he would probably end up like a smashed tomato upon impact.

Oscar began to breathe heavily, his fear of death quickly setting in. He probably would have had a full-blown panic attack if Kepler's Beheeyem had not arrived to save the day. As the alien created a protective shield around himself and Oscar, the panicked scientist let out a heavy sigh of relief. "Oh fuck you beautiful creature. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!"

From there the landing was--while not anywhere near perfect--pretty standard. The genesect trio kept together as the ship hurdled to the surface, their armor more than capable of enduring the pressures of the atmosphere. The ship managed to land in one piece, which was the most surprising part of this harrowing experience to Oscar. He half expected the damn thing to split in half.

As the ship slid to a stop, Oscar rested his head against the airlock wall and quietly tried to regulate his heart rate. When Kepler asked if everyone was alright, Oscar would finally think to talk over the comms.

"I'm good. I need a hug though. Can someone let me in? Please?"

”it might,” she echoed Tempest Quinn with a nod, unsure what to think of that possibility, still rattled by the unexpected attack.[break][break]

still, it felt like destiny. the cresselia had retreated. perhaps it could be reasoned with. her dream almost felt prophetic.[break][break]

do not fail me. the words of an arceus echoed from the dream world in her mind. ”i won’t,” she whispered in reply, beneath the shaking of the ship and the noise of its warnings.[break][break]

there was a pinch in her brow as they zeroed in on their landing spot, willing herself into intense focus, prepared to take over the second something went awry—but kepler got them safely to the moon’s surface.[break][break]

”thanks for keeping us alive, kep.” she grinned in shock and let out a deep breath, relieved to still be alive.[break][break]

then, oscar’s voice sent a jolt of belated panic through her.[break][break]

”oscar! shit!”[break][break]

she scrambled up from the seat again and towards the airlock. letting him in, she didn’t hesitate to wrap arms around him in the hug he’d requested, serious or not.[break][break]

”you’re okay,” she confirmed to herself against his shoulder, grateful for the fact. ”i’m sorry i left you out there. the beheeyem pulled me away and there was so much going on and i just—“[break][break]

stopping herself, she pulled back and released him with a weak smile and a nod. they’d made it. it was time to move on with the mission. they were doomed to be behind schedule.[break][break]

”i’m going to work on the antenna and try to get back in touch with sootopolis,” she informed them.[break][break]

as she went to retrieve the tools again, a hand brushed over Tempest Quinn’s shoulder, glad he was alright too. it was all very uncharacteristic, but her mind was numb with adrenaline and the aftermath of a near-death experience.[break][break]

”i can’t believe it just attacked out of nowhere like that,” she said aloud, to none in particular in her hurry to begin repairs.[break][break]

Shifting to take point in his own seat, Tempest did as ordered and strapped in. The landing wasn't as rough as it could have been. Honestly, the landing would have been a lot of things. Temp was glad it wasn't.[break][break]

"Still breathing, Kep." Was answered to @kelper. A nod given to the other as he unbuckled again, ready to go and grab any gear needed for the expedition they were on.[break][break]

When Lulu Flint passed by, he gave her a small smile. Raising a his hand, he pat her own as she passed but didn't linger. Familiar and friendly without any expectations. Moving over to oscar clayton, he, too, pulled the man into a tight hug. Full body, pulling the man's face into his chest, crushing his spine type of hug. It was quick but rough before he pulled away.[break][break]

"When I last saw it, it took measures to protect me and others. Maybe it's protecting something up here?" Was offered.

The feeling of being on solid ground-- if the decreased, dusty gravity of the moon could be considered solid-- after having been moving through a vacuum made Kepler’s stomach lurch a bit. Like getting off a roller coaster, if his heart had allowed him to ride roller coasters.

Pluto stuck close to oscar clayton as everyone gathered their bearings.

“Me too, big guy, me too. Good job, everyone.” He gave a weak wave in Lulu Flint’s direction to thank her for the compliment, tempted to reach out and touch her arm but fought back into submission by years of bowing to his betters.

Lulu split off to try and establish communication with Sootopolis; Kepler went for a space suit, did a preliminary check to make sure all of his cameras (located in hands, boot toes, chest, and forehead) were recording, and headed for the airlock. “I’m gonna start taking measurements and samples.”

“Over-under on the moon being a gigantic egg,” he said, when Tempest Quinn suggested the Cresselia was protecting something. He sealed and depressurized the chamber, listening to the canned air whirr as it was recycled. Then, the door to the outside world opened.

“One small step for man, one giant leap, et cetera, et cetera.”

He went to step out onto the moon’s surface, misjudged the pull of gravity, and ended up in a very slow imitation of a long-jump. Pale dust lifted up when his feet touched the surface. He had to keep himself moving to avoid staring out at the vastness of space and having a panic attack.

“Time to see if this bitch is really made of cheese,” he said, bending to start taking soil (moondust? Moon soil?) samples. Callisto fluttered up behind him, psychically scanning the moon in small sections to record density and vague image-maps of what lay beneath its surface.

Oscar was downright shocked when Lulu went in for a hug. Oscar never knew her to be fond of physical affection, a trait they both shared. Yet as he received her hug, he had to admit it made him feel a lot better. He did not have time to reflect upon it, but the past ten minutes had been--especially tiresome.

Oscar could not help but chuckle at her concern, "Hey you're fine. A lot was happening, what matters is that we're all okay." This seemed to reassure her, as she would depart to work on the antenna. Oscar felt refreshed by this interaction, which made him vulnerable to a surprise hug from Temp.

Bless his heart, Temp's powerful hug nearly broke Oscar's back. Oscar yelped, and tried his best to earnestly communicate. "I--ach! Thanks Temp! Appreciate it--ribs breaking!" Oscar heaved when he was let go, moving off to the side to regain his breath. He listened in on his colleague's conversation but he had no opinion of his own. He had no experience with Cresselia beyond this one, but it made sense that it may be protecting its territory. More detail than that can be discerned on a different occasion.

When he felt ready, Oscar would announce his intentions. "I'm going to work on the hull. Shouldn't take long to fix now that we're not hurdling through space." Oscar adjusted his suit and exited the spaceship, pushing his exhaustion to the back of his mind. There would be time to rest after the job was done.

Oscar got on top of the ship with the supplies he needed and made his way to the tear within the hull. Genesect Prime met him there, glad to see its master alive and well. Oscar gave the cyborg a nod, "Good work so far Prime, let's get this hull fixed so we can go home." The two had a much better time fixing tears in the ship without so much chaos occurring around them. It took a bit, but the repairs would assure that they would not burn up getting back to their planet.

As he finished, Oscar would communicate over the comms. "Hey we should wrap it up, we don't want to be around when Cresselia gets a second wind."

protecting something, Tempest Quinn had suggested. ”the moon?” she guessed. but why now? it was not exactly humankind’s first trip there.[break][break]

kepler’s bet about it being an egg would have felt more like a joke if not for all that had happened in hoenn. at times it felt as though the world itself might crack apart at any moment and crumble like an eggshell.[break][break]

when they parted ways to work, she continued to listen as she climbed up to the antenna, telling kepler with dark humor, ”don’t lick any space rocks.”[break][break]

soon enough, the repairs were complete. hull patched. samples collected. oscar clayton had a good point. it was not safe to linger and explore further – a decision that echoed from their planet when comms were re-established with sootopolis.[break][break]

it did not take them long to set course back for home, and it would be a much smoother trip – though the cresselia lingered on her mind uneasily, as news of its sighting and attack spread on the submarine, and surely to declan walsh, and darkrai by extension.[break][break]

”i thought maybe cresselia had been under the control of the drk triad,” she mentioned over dinner. ”in the cloud, maldacena said he ‘pitied’ her. but she seems to be alone, acting of her own accord… maybe she’s being hunted?”[break][break]

she could recall such a feeling herself, being on edge at the slightest hint of a threat.[break][break]

if cresselia wasn’t hunted already, she most certainly would be now.[break][break]
