YOU ARE REQUESTED TO INTEND A MEETING WITH ADMIN JAYDEN CROSS AT...

You glance down at the email once more to confirm that yes, you've got the time right, before stuffing your phone back into your pocket with a sigh. Yes, you've got the right date and the right time, and as you've repeatedly confirmed, they've got right person. In a few minutes time, you're going to have to walk through that door and attend this "meeting".

You've been dreading this all day. You don't like meetings at the best of times, but solo meetings with a higher-up? You have a sinking, inescapable feeling that this is going to end with your body washing up on the beaches of Slateport. What is all this even about, anyway? Who did you piss off to deserve this? You've already been fucked about by Elisabeth Fiorelli's bastard snail a few hours earlier, wasn't that punishment enough? Couldn't they find it in their cold, black, dead hearts to just let it slide?

...Well, not point putting it off any longer. Not like an extra few minutes of freedom will mean much where you're going. Breathing a quiet sigh of resignation, you walk up to the door of Admin Cross' office and knock twice, before stepping back.

Time to face the music.

The medical division had released him, giving him the clean bill of health, but there was still a lot that Jayden felt was not alright. The sharp sting of betrayal constantly lingered, courtesy of both Ashley Shepard and Isaac Merlo, while the fiery clash with Remiel Calcifet and paxton concordas had left the admin with an unmistakable mark of HATRED.

[break][break] And most of all, that smoldering HATRED that burned a crater in his chest, refusing to be extinguished.

[break][break] It felt like something was rotting him, from the inside out.

[break][break] MATIAS SILPH. His desire to kill him. The desire to destroy the cancerous rot that was the center of Hoenn's destruction.

[break][break] But despite the feverish fog, there was only so much that could be pushed away. He had his responsibilities as an Admin, and his desire to prove himself to Rocket, to declan walsh.

[break][break] When the knock echoes through the chamber of his office, Shred Zeppelin would find the room frosted from the inside out. Icy mist would exude from the external corridor, and when he entered, he would find that jayden cross had his back turned. He was staring out the window of the sub, a distant expression in his eyes and a golden coin pressed into his palm.

[break][break] He blinked, turning on his heel.

[break][break] "Zeppelin."

[break][break] Bruised violet eyes snapped towards the older man's form, unwavering in the way that he looked at him.

You were expecting an icy reception, but you weren't expecting it to be literally frozen over.

Seriously. This can't bode well for you, can it? It doesn't feel like you're walking into an Admin's office for a meeting, it feels like you're walking into a meat freezer so you can be murdered. Besides that, is it really alright to do this in a submarine, of all places? Couldn't this cause the whole thing to decompress? And wouldn't that kill everyone on board? You suppose there's no point worrying about it. He's probably got the whole room reinforced and insulated and such. Y'know. Probably.

"Jayden." You reply, meeting the Admin's eyes. Then, you blink. First names are probably a little too casual for a first meeting with the higher-ups, huh? Best to tone it down a little. The last thing you need is to dig yourself any deeper. "Cross."

You take a deep breath, and watch the mist pour out from your mouth. Shit, man, isn't this all a bit much? Sure, you're no interior designer, but... Shit, man. Without a word, you bury your hands into the pockets of your jacket and take a few cautious steps forward, careful not to slip on the icy floor. Then, after a pause, you speak up again.

"You, uh, wanted to see me?"

[break][break] People normally broached the silence with a sort of forgiving smile, but Jayden did not such thing. Even before his avatarship, he had inherited a reputation for being cold and insensitive with the grunts, apathetic to the best of them.

[break][break] He stared forward for an uncomfortable amount of time, before suddenly striding forward with an envelope in hand. A slight flicker of a smile appeared on his face.

[break][break] The white envelope, containing all the matters of his promotion and a substantial pay increase, was handed to him.

As Jayden suddenly moves towards you, your hand instinctively moves into your jacket pocket, your fingers wrapping around the grip of your pistol. At this distance, at the pace he's moving... Shit, no time to line up a headshot, is there? No, by the time you've pulled out your gun, he'll already be upon you. Your only chance is to hammer the trigger as fast as you can and hope you can plug him before he--

"--Wait. For real?"

Huh. You weren't expecting that. Man, it's a good thing you didn't have the time to draw your pistol, or else this would've gone REALLY badly, huh? With the perceived threat against your life no longer perceived, your hand moves away from your concealed firearm and instead reaches for the envelope. Honestly, you haven't quite registered the whole "Beast" thing yet. Mostly, you're just grateful that you aren't going to be murdered today, so you're still processing your sudden promotion.

Idly, you tear open the envelope, and take a second to peer at the contents. Of course, you're immediately drawn to the payslip, which you pull out to closer inspect. And then, you see the numbers, and then it processes, and then it registers.

"...Wait, for real?!"

You never really thought about it like that, but you guess it isn't wrong. But it's not quite right, is it? Sure, you've worked hard and done what they've told you, but that was all you did. You didn't lick boots, didn't grease palms, and didn't play politics. All you wanted was a nice little life for yourself, free from the yoke of the League. And yet, here you are, a newly minted Beast of Team Rocket.

You blink. Then, you look at your payslip again. Shit, why are you even looking this gift Ponyta in the mouth? This is several times more than what you've got in your bank account right now. You might be a dumbass, but even you're not stupid enough to say no to this.

Nothing about Shred Zeppelin is unexpected. At least not for Jayden. The other man gives off the aura of competence, whether it is out of sheer confidence or an unwillingness on Jayden's end to believe poorly of a longstanding Rocket member.
