Rain lashes down upon the Sea Mauville. Waves as tall as buildings crash into the derelict platform. The great beast roars as it rises out from the deep, a sound so pure and primal that the world itself bows its head to acquiesce to its demands. Only a few minutes earlier, the skies were clear and the waters calm, but now? You're in the eye of the storm.

Kyogre is here, and it will not be denied.

"HOLY SHIT!" You shout above the howling wind, clinging to the railing for dear life. You can feel the facility beneath your feet groan under the strain of the storm. The whole thing feels like it could collapse at any moment. "NAVY!? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING?!"

Prying one hand free from the barrier, you reach towards your Pokeballs. You don't even know what Pokemon could possibly get you out of this situation, but there has to be something, right? Something, anything to get you out of this mess!

Kyogre and its counterpart, Groudon, are two of the three legendaries Navy knew about in any real depth as a child. They shaped the land called Hoenn into the region it is today. Kyogre’s great fins twisted the waves.[break][break]
His heart catches in his chest. Shred has asked a question – a perfectly reasonable one. What is Kyogre doing here? Why is it attacking them? Where is Skyler Dross?[break][break]
“AQUA was supposed to be running a combat exercise yesterday!” Navy leaks what would likely qualify as classified information to the enemy. “Shit, shit, shit. Did your guys intercept Dross? Kill her? Drive Kyogre crazy?” And in comes the healthy dose of speculation. Regardless of what comes next, they’re simply two men in way, way over their heads.[break][break]
It’s do or die time. Navy’s already died once. Not again. Not so soon. Not when he knows what’s on the other side.[break][break]
He rips a pokeball free from his side with a gunslinger’s speed. Far from home and hearth, he resolves to fight. Out comes Smaug, a feathered dragon of a distant past. Navy leaps from the research station into empty air, catching the dragon by the reins.[break][break]
“Got somethin’ to ride?!” He howls over the rising winds. Kyogre roars, sending a massive origin pulse their way. It cleaves a path through the water, aimed right for Sea Mauville.

Seriously, does he just assume you know everything that happens in Team Rocket? You're a grunt, they don't tell you shit! But then, if the gym leader and "AQUA" member doesn't even know, then... Holy shit, this is REALLY bad. If the raging storm around you didn't clue you into that, then his reaction certainly did.

Cursing under your breath, you manage to send out your Golurk. The sheer weight of the stone construct causes the metal floor to groan beneath their feet, as though it might collapse under the pressure. Fortunately, it doesn't, and you manage to find your balance long enough to lurch over to it and clamber up onto its sturdy shoulders.

WARNING: Atmospheric conditions highly unstable. Staying outside presents a high risk of death, especially given our current location. RECOMMENDATION: It would be wise to retreat to the mainland for shelt--

"JUST SHUT UP AND FLY!"

Golurk complies. Its legs shift into rockets and propel you straight upwards, just in time to avoid the Origin Pulse that crashes into a Sea Mauville. The entire platform shakes from the force of the blast, but thankfully, it doesn't sink. But if it gets hit by another one? You aren't so sure. Tanking one of those hits had to have caused some structural damage, and if another one hits it while its in an even worse state? It's going to the bottom of the ocean.

Well, at the very least, you're not standing on it anymore, but still.

“Skyler Dross?!” Navy shouts over the gathering storm. Smaug meets its wings in a maddening attempt to stay airborne. “Hot pirate chick? Kyogre’s avatar?! Do you not watch the news?” How much of that gets heard over the storm, Navy doesn’t know. Turning to face the god of the sea, all he knows is that he is seen. Kyogre looks at them, and then at the platform behind them.[break][break]
Maybe the smart move would be to just let it destroy the platform. Sink it into the sea, make it no one’s problem. That would take care of the ghost infestation. Most would say the place isn’t doing much good for anyone.[break][break]
But it’s in his county. Under his jurisdiction. His to protect. If he can’t protect a research station, how can he hope to defend his town?[break][break]
It’s just the two of them. Them, and a god. It inhales water, shooting a water spout at both trainers. Navy jerks his spurs into Smaug. The dragon dives straight down. If he wasn’t wearing his sygna suit, he’s sure his neck would snap from the g-force. Smaug’s wings fold in. The sea approaches, rising up to swallow him whole.[break][break]
Navy has to make a decision: cut his losses and run, or fight. To fight, he needs the older man’s help. Logic dictates that’s dumb on multiple fronts.[break][break]
Sometimes, a man has to be a little dumb. He trusts Shred. The man has never been nothing but honest about his intentions. It just wouldn’t be right, if things ended this way – the Rocket stabbing him in the back.[break][break]
Smaug rights himself, coming up along Kyogre. He greets the god with a breaking swipe.[break][break]
Sliding past the supermassive leviathan, Smaug turns. Navy looks up, eyes wide, wondering if his faith was misplaced.

To clarify, you heard him perfectly fine. It's more the contents of his words that are confusing you here. The government of Hoenn has a hot pirate chick working for them, and nobody told you about this? Shit, man, you've always wanted to be a pirate! If you'd known that, you would've signed up with the League instead of Rocket! Fuck's sake. Well, it's too late now. If Navy has the right of, then she's dead, and her gigantic whale is coming to kill you. Your dreams of a romance dawn on the high seas are dead. That's one less reason to get out of bed in the morning.

But now's not the time to mourn your lost life as a modern day buccaneer. No, now's the time to buckle up, hunker down, and fight for your life. If this fish thinks it's going to drown you, then it's got another thing coming.

Navy and his Roaring Moon rush in first, and you and Golurk follow close behind. Of course, your stonewrought automaton is far slower than his Paradox dragon, but that just means you get to be the main event compared to the sheriff's opening act. The Breaking Swipe momentarily opens up Kyogre, and that allows Golurk to come crashing down and land a Dynamic Punch right on the beast's head.

And yet, it didn't even flinch.

"SHIT!"

Another Water Spout bursts forth, and both you and your golem are blasted back by a relentless torrent of water.

His faith is rewarded. Shred follows up, taking center stage. Navy doesn’t mind playing second fiddle. The man does look damn cool piloting his Golurk. They’re given a bigger problem than simply looking cool.[break][break]
Kyogre’s water spout sends Smaug back, beating his winds in quiet desperation to stay ahead of the spout. If they get sucked in, they’re both dead.[break][break]
“Arceus, I need to teach you something you can do at range.” He swears at the Roaring Moon. Smaug gives no hint he either understands or cares about his tamer’s words. Instead, he swivels around. Kyogre has forgotten the other man for the moment. Its attention, both golden eyes full of manic annoyance, are upon him again.[break][break]
A psychedelic collection of colored bubbles spurt towards them, another origin pulse. Kyogre means to take them out of the fight. Smaug needs no nudge to do exactly what Navy wants him to do: fly right towards the origin pulse.[break][break]
His wings pivot around the individual pulses of water. Surrounded by a nonstop pulse of primordial energy, he feels like he’s trapped in one of those bullet hell games Kyle and his brother loved so dearly.[break][break]
“Get him!” Navy shouts at Shred as if the man could hear him over the storm. “Kick his ass!”

"Kick his ass" is easier said than done.

Seriously, this thing just shook off a direct hit from a Dynamic Punch! It's like it just got hit by a runaway freight train, only to get back up and keep on swimming like nothing happened. As strong as Golurk is, its clear that it won't be enough to just hit hard. No, this thing won't go down from anything short of an intercontinental ballistic missile hitting it head-on, so you'll just have to get creative.

You'll need to be more selective about where you're hitting. The thick blue hide may be the obvious target, but its also the most durable. You're not going to hurt it there, especially not with a blunt instrument. The white underbelly is a more tempting prospect, but trying to attack it from below risks getting caught in the maelstrom, and that's not a risk you want to take with your superheavy ground type. Then, what about the red markings? They certainly look vulnerable, but something in your gut tells you that you really shouldn't fuck with them. Besides, there's another soft and squishy spot on its body thats far easier to hit.

"GOLURK, HIT IT IN THE EYE!"

AFFIRMATIVE.

Once again, the titan shoots forth, taking advantage of the distracted leviathan to soar straight to the eye of the beast and nail it with a Shadow Punch. Sure enough, it proves far more effective, as the massive whale rears back and lets out a loud roar of pain.

And then that pain turns to rage.

And that rage turns to violence.

The entire ocean beneath it seems to rise up in anger, and from the roiling seas comes a gigantic tsunami, a Surf meant to drown both golem and dragon and rider alike. Assuredly, such a death would be a terribly way to go - Thrashed about by a thousand conflicting currents as your lungs begin to fill with water, a breath of air so close you could touch it, yet so far you could never reach it.

Kyogre is many things, but forgiving, it seems, is not one of them.

Kyogre’s cry turns the blood in his veins to ice. It is a cry from the dawn of time. Ancient fury rises to take them into its domain. If they are forced to fight in Kyogre’s world, they lose.[break][break]
The ocean rises. It climbs, coming to claim them. The surf whips against Smaug. Navy tries to right it, steadying the reins. His strength is wearing thin under the strain. He wasn’t expecting this fight. All he wanted was to clean up the place, treat Shred to ramen, make vague talk of the future, and move on. Maybe catch a movie.[break][break]
Instead, his left arm fails him. He’s falling. Falling. Plunging into cold, roaring waters, deep enough to drown. In his right arm is strength. It kicks at the current, trying to rise up. Smaug flails in the water, useless now that his wings are submerged. All Navy can do is recall him into his ball, save him the anguish.[break][break]
Kyogre’s surf pulls him down. Every attempt to break the water’s surface is met with resistance. He can only emerge for just long enough to flail. A water spout tears towards him, whirling and threatening to pull him up. For the first time since the island, he fears death. It comes for him again.[break][break]
“SHREEED!” He manages one long cry before the waves pull him down once again.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck...!"

Everything is going to hell. No matter what you do, you just can't seem to hurt this thing. Golurk could land a thousand blows on all of Kyogre's weak spots, and its solid stone fist would shatter before the leviathan even bled. You can't win this fight, especially not like this. You need to retreat, think, come back with a better plan and better preparations and--

CRASH! Your thoughts are interrupted as the gigantic wave crashes through you. It feels like getting hit by a train for five seconds straight. It takes everything you have to cling to Golurk, and even then, the only reason he isn't dragged down to the depths is because of the unstoppable beating heart within its chest. Anything less, and the thrusters would've cut out, and you'd be helplessly thrashing about in the water.

Just like Navidson. Through eyes stinging with saltwater, you see the sheriff fall into the water. He couldn't dodge it.

"NAVY!"

Shit, shit, shit, no no no no no...!

"Golurk, hurry up and--"

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING: Systems suffering from overexposure to water. Further exposure will lead to flight capabilities being irreversibly damaged. RECOMMENDATION: Retreat is highly encouraged. All other choices are highly discouraged.

"Damn it, we can't just leave him!" You snap, frantically searching through the Pokeballs on your belt. At first, your hand settles on Sigilyph, but you quickly dismiss that idea. No, too late for that. He's already underwater, and the water's already filling his lungs. You need someone to swim to him, and fast. "Think! Who can get him, who can get him, who can get him...? It's gotta be--"

"GYOHOHOHOHOHO!"

Before you can call out whoever you were going to send out, a familiar laugh rings out through the storm, and Basculegion bursts out from the brine with an Aqua Jet. Shit! You'd forget he was even out here! You'd send him out back at Sea Mauville, and forgot to recall him when Kyogre showed up and starting wreaking havoc. He's certainly a sight for sore eyes, in more ways than one, because clutched in the jaws of the fish is none other than the body of Michael Navidson.

Alive. You hope.

He struggles against the tide as water fills his lungs. He coughs, and when he coughs, more water is drawn in. Caught in the vicious cycle, his mind turns to Melody Miro, to Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki, to Eris Halla, to all of those he swore he’d never die. Gabe used to tell funny little jokes about how he’d drown one day. It kept him from going into the water, made him averse to being there. Dry land was for him, not what swims beneath the waves.[break][break]
Giving up already, Michael? Thought so. Quitter. Quit your jobs, quit your wife, quit everything. Ran off to play hero. Can’t save shit. Can’t do anything.[break][break]
His howl of fuck you is lost in the deep. Some god is smiling on him, for it is timed precisely when something pierces his side. Navy doesn’t notice the pain any more than he notices the blood in the stormy waters. Only when he kicks and sees that his strength deserts him still does panic start to set in.[break][break]
Hope comes in the form of clenched jaws. He thinks some Sharpedo has been drawn by the pain until he sees light up above. It grows brighter, brighter, brighter until he breaks through. Kyogre is still there, still angry, still firing its pulses and loosing its water spouts.[break][break]
