But something more than just a firm desire to see Chu-e Choi again spurs her on, even as she's dwarfed by the Kingambit as he readies yet another punch.[break][break]

Very few commands need to be issued. She hops a little to the left as Reiner dodges with a leap to the left, then draws out a whistle to get the Luxray to withhold charging back in. With the pressure that Kurze emanates, they can be sure that this is definitely a pokemon that Isaac Merlo has trained. And as such, they need to play a little more carefully if they want to end up conquering this seemingly insurmountable wall.[break][break]

At least, until the larger beast springs from the tall grass to devour them all.

A Misty Terrain joins the rumbling of the earth, flooding the field and adding confusion to the writhing earth from the Stomping Tantrum. A rain of fire from Fire Blasts. The sheen of Barriers as they encircle the area, locking the area inside the mess being made.[break][break]

Back-lit by flame, the snarling face of Chu-e Choi in the flesh.[break][break]

They snarl, raising a hand and pointing at the Kingambit. At their side, Sparklefur rises, ice sitting in her jaws as she charges forward.[break][break]

Where he panics, she attempts to keep her cool. Where he prepares to take down a threat, she readies herself to defend Kurze's life. But when you truly see someone that you love, that you trust in and care for so much, in a state of frenzy themselves, there is no stopping that unease from sprouting.[break][break]

Reiner doesn't need the slightest bit of guidance, pacing until he stands before the Kingambit. And Eris will spread her arms wide, as if creating a barrier between the whole strike force and Isaac's precious teammate.[break][break]

"I'm fine! I'm not hurt! Kurze is a friend!"

The four pokemon about to pound the shit out of the Kingambit come to a halt; just a few feet from the pokemon and Eris herself. The four of them stand about, a bit confused, looking between the Kingambit, Eris, and Chu-e.[break][break]

Chu-e also looks confused, face pinched, before something like understanding crosses their features.[break][break]

"Oh. You guys tricked me."[break][break]

They deflate some at that. The fire of vengeance and battle and protection flowing out like a balloon losing air. Chu-e shrinks into the small, crumpled, tired form of what they really were.[break][break]

Then, Chu-e's face twists.[break][break]

"Eris..."[break][break]

Like a deer, they look on the verge of bolting.

And she too will act, approaching Chu-e with quiet, even steps. As if he were but a wounded pokemon, as if he were an illusion that would dissipate into mere wisps if she dared to greed.[break][break]

"You can't keep running." Just as he is determined to protect her, she is tenacious - She who has bet everything on a coin flip, she who has placed herself in harm's way time and time again for those she deems close to heart.[break][break]

"You know that if you run, I'll keep chasing. Even if it means going to Sootopolis myself."

Chu-e Choi is a war criminal. A man who destroyed homes. Who looked into the face of death and spat in it. Who laughed as people died. Chu-e Choi is a monster, through and through. Someone whose heart was blackened long ago by the realities of war and violence and cruelty.[break][break]

Chu-e Choi is a man who does not know fear.[break][break]

Now, though, when he looks into the face of a fourteen-year-old girl, he trembles. Chu-e sees the heart he broke and his fingers tremble and heart races.[break][break]

The fires, both real and metaphorical, snuff out. The storm traps.[break][break]

Realistically, they could leave. Even if Prince betrayed them, Chu-e has many more pokemon who could get them out of this situation. Could fight.[break][break]

But Eris Halla was his kryotonite.[break][break]

"You can't." A pleading. Chu-e fidgeted with his hands, worrying them. "I can't protect you from them anymore, Eris. I'm worthless."
