Together, a knight and a dragon king dance. Roland’s brilliant blade dazzles in the light of tera crystals. Kyle’s quick thinking boosts him, makes the already powerful knight stronger still. Every angry thrash from the king is a dangerous blow. One false step in this dance and his life ends – at least within the confines of this simulation. It is a terrible thing, to face a dragon. Knights and dragons, though equal in mythology, are mismatched in actual combat.[break][break]
“It looks like our buddy here wants in on the fun.” Navy points with his thumb. “Why not give him a command? Maybe he’ll listen to you.” Whether or not Kyle decides to take Navy up on the suggestion, Roland continues his dizzying dance.[break][break]
One heartbeat, he dodges a breaking swipe via a death-defying backflip. Another, he pieces the roof with his blade, hanging there like a Zubat. The next, he plunges, blade poised to strike a telling blow.[break][break]
Their opponent bathes in tera light. Energy is pulled towards him. Sweeping, brilliant energy coalesces around the beast. Crystals hum to life, as if drawn to the command of their king. Koraidon raises a fist, roaring as crystals creep along its edge. Every king needs a crown, and now he has his.[break][break]
A fighter’s crown sits atop the Winged King’s head, his raging fist meeting the fae blade. Roland flies back, skidding to a stop in front of Kyle and his trainer.

he was ready to cut off the fun for the paradox pokemon by changing the weather to kill the sun's influence on him when navy tells him something he should have considered.

no rain dance will be had if they want to have fun.

"i forgot we're visitors in this scenario," he mentions as he eases down on the fight, giving way for the second koraidon's entry back. "and this is his world."

he had things planned. thunder would have been the last of the three-step strategy to this that simultaneously incorporates support, defense and offense, but he scraps it all for the koraidon show.

"you've caught your breath," he tells the dragon. "go get back there now."

an invigorated roar attempts to announce his entry. he charges in as he glows white, bestowing himself with a draconic crown. it rushes in with collision course, taking advantage of the enemy koraidon's focus on a different target.

“Well hell if Roland doesn’t feel underdressed for the occasion now.” Navy pulls out his tera orb. “Hey, got a cool trick to show you. Maybe this one’ll throw you for a loop.” Doubtful, but a man can hope. Kyle’s on the bleeding edge of everything in the region, a true blue veteran. He probably knew about Stellar-type before Navy got briefed.[break][break]
Yet still, Roland is crowned in glory. Above his head revolves eighteen stars. Each one a different type, a different fantasy, a different world. His blade burns with the light of a thousand possibilities. When he runs across the ground, it streaks like a rainbow. Skirting to the enemy Koraidon’s far side, he jumps behind the beast. Their foe is caught in a perfect pincer formation. On one side, a collision course crashes against a collision course. On the other, a rainbow tera blast strikes against their foe’s body.[break][break]
“Man…I almost feel bad.” He laughs. “You were actually serious for once and here I am tellin’ you to relax and have fun. Talk about a role reversal.”

he stops to think of the words navy told him when they appeared in this scenario. they were all just taunts and words of encouragement, but he never outright told him to take it seriously.

"-nevermind."

he turns to his manectric and whistles a note.

going on the offensive, the manectric finishes its set up with the rain dance before bombarding the koraidon they beat up with a barrage of thunder, which have been boosted with the electric terrain.

kyle casually mega evolves his pokemon in the middle of the onslaught, stealing the limelight back from the koraidon on their side.

"can we go home now?" he whines, not wanting to be teased by navy into being coerced into doing something again.

“Oh ho!” Navy whistles at the mega evolution. Nervous as recent revelations make him, he can’t deny mega evolution looks damn cool. He’ll let any moral concerns remain unsaid. Kyle’s about to kick a legendary’s ass. Best not to take away from that.[break][break]
“Mmm. Go home? Not without a proper finish, you know?” Putting his hands in his pocket, he whistles. “Yo, Roland. We got the champion on deck. Clear out. I wanna see what he does.”[break][break]
Roland almost trips avoiding another swipe. Skipping back, he stands at his trainer’s side. With his blade at the ready, the knight stands poised to jump back into the fray. Complicated machine wires ready to piston at a moment’s notice, launching him like a missile when needed.[break][break]
Yet he does not launch yet – not when it contradicts a direct order.[break][break]
“Come on, man. Give us a big finish. Show the big guy what you’re made of.”

"there's nothing special!" he tries to argue back. "don't make it look like a big deal, dude!"

in a way, it is. he rarely does take the initiative to make something explosive, which is what he was planning in order to finish the encounter quick.

"besides, if this is a big finish-"

his manectric lunges forward with quick attack, surprise causing the koraidon to flinch after it has been battered by a three-versus-one. the next moment wasn't available either, for the second koraidon has tripped it from its legs with a breaking swipe.

"-then it just means your standards have gotten worse."

drenched in rain and lit up by the electric terrain, the mega manectric pins down the koraidon in a series of movements that leave it unable to fight back. in that one moment of opportunity, electricity discharges, filling the room with blinding sparks.

“YEAAAAAAAAH!” Navy cheers, resolved to be Kyle’s hype man for the day. Watching the dazzling display of mastery from Manectric is a joy. It gives him a glimpse of a world he’d give anything to see, reflected by the tera all around them within this simulated universe. In that one, Kyle dazzles with moves like that in stadiums, even if it isn’t his style.[break][break]
“Man, you kicked its ass. That’s my buddy!” He claps Kyle on the shoulder, holding out a hand for a high five. The simulation starts to fade. The show’s run its course. Dreams are meant to end, and the party’s just about over on this one.[break][break]
It makes him want to fight all the harder, to get Kyle to a tomorrow he will find dreadfully boring and uncomfortable.

the experience wasn't bad. he would say it has an even better feel than blades&bulwark, though he doesn't know if that was attributed to the way his avatar doesn't resemble as himself there.

pixels start to fade off. the darkness looms as it slowly swallows the world to the void.

"oi, the next time you invite me-" the implication of a next time suggests that kyle has somewhat enjoyed himself despite saying otherwise. "-let's take it easy, okay?"

he wasn't a man of action, that's why he needed the likes of navy.

though he may fumble and fuck it up, he at least stops things from stagnating too hard for them to break the mold. kyle's role was to patch things up to workable levels, but that is only if his help was wanted.
