“Too stubborn to quit.” He says to her while she sits atop the Nihilego. The simulation has its quirks, among them the capacity to always hear your partner. Navy speaks to her like he’s right there by her side. Eternatus rumbles, fires its cannon upon them.[break][break]
Zamazenta offers them his protection, as he always does. The hero moves with the energy of someone still young. Navy watches passively, hands gripping the edge of his belt. Something about this Pokemon reminds him of Gabe, but he can’t place his finger on why. Perhaps it doesn’t matter, a simple connection made in the subconscious.[break][break]
This place is a double-edged sword. It numbs him to Eternatus’s power, allows him to examine it under a clinical eye. What wisdom they gleam here will carry them through the days ahead. If he becomes too used to this sight, he knows, he will underestimate his foe on the day when it truly matters.[break][break]
Eternatus is his enemy. Now and forever. So long as it threatens the places he calls home, he will never stop fighting it, never stop getting ready. He throws out Shuwen, who runs alongside the fighting master’s shield. Zamazenta seems to turn into a comet, rising to meet an oncoming giant with a behemoth bash. It falls from one strike. Shuwen neutralizes the Pokemon that are infected but not dynamaxed.[break][break]
“One day, we’ll have to fight Him for real. Gotta be ready. Gotta be. Even if everyone else forgets,” these words are shouted, aimed at whoever processes this data, “I won’t.”

Giant angelic glass body refracts the light of her patron, yet she doesn't succumb. She turns her light to the skies, outshining the sun. The shield of a great hero eclipses the beam, sends it toward the landscape all around them. The world is baptized in holy flames, returning their surroundings to whence they came. [break][break]

And yet, here they remain, only the town still standing.[break][break]

"Gettin' lost in remembering... maybe it'd be nice to forget, just this once."[break][break]

Baki turns up and looks the Skeleton in her dead, hollow eyes. However foreign, she understands the pain behind them. All this pain and misery would better be swept away, if only she could keep everyone enthralled as the girl once had been. [break][break]

Every howl against the darkness is simply delaying the inevitable, be it matters of milliseconds or millennia. Zamazenta’s howl rouses townsfolk from their home. Poised against Eternatus and all His might, he howls. Smallfolk emerge from where they hide. Their eyes focus on the hero of many battles, standing tall against the inevitable.[break][break]
“Huh?” Navy’s question isn’t for Tsubaki. He questions the simulation itself as he begins to recognize these peasants. Many of them look like the townsfolk of Dewford, or bear such a resemblance that it’s uncanny. They watch the shield wolf howl. It stirs something in their heart.[break][break]
Pokemon housed in apricot balls are thrown out. Most are decidedly unimpressive. Galarian Farfetch’d, Meowths, Rookidee, the Pokemon of peaceful folk. Evolution is often a forced matter, a desperate struggle for survival, an urge to be the best. When faced with destruction, even peaceful folk are forced to take up the shield in defense of what they love.[break][break]
Zamazenta simply coaches them, offers a helping hand. Shuwen leads the charge against the first Pokemon in the dynamaxed army, although Tsubaki’s Nihilego is afforded the same help.[break][break]
The hero’s howl is a testament to Tsubaki’s truth. It is human nature to fight, again and again. When the alternative is death, humanity fights. Their war cries are its song, a song that carries them to a peaceful tomorrow.[break][break]
His howl is a promise, that they’ll see tomorrow, even if the hero doesn’t.

A roar rattles down the tunnel. Another Koraidon stomps toward you in apex form, its fierce plume and twisted antennae flicking about like whips.[break][break]

Baki wheels around, her gasp of surprise echoing round the cavern like cruel mockery of her fear. She steels her heart against the intrusion, taking a step toward it. Her Nihilego flutters in the air, oblivious to it all.[break][break]

She calls out his name. She can't see him. [break][break]

But his breathing... it's him, isn't it? [break][break]

And that growl, it sounds remarkably like him.[break][break]

“ORA!” A sonic explosion of force expands by Tsubaki. Shuwen cries with her father’s voice, his fist meeting something vicious and scarlet. Before them is a winged king, a red riotous thing who rules all he surveys. Its eyes are upon Tsubaki, tracing past her. Something trembles in the dark of the tera cavern.[break][break]
The king’s little brother quivers there. Unable to stand up straight, he sits on all fours. Its growl is low, it pleads for help. Tsubaki is all that stands between the creature and death. Koraidon, for that is what they will come to call this creature, stands there domineering and unabashed. It beholds threats to its kingdom. Sunlight rains down upon them, harsh sunlight that empowers the crowned king.[break][break]
“Ora.” Shuwen raises both fists, holding them up. His message is clear: if they’re going to survive, they’ll have to work together.

[attr="class","star2tsu4"]Shuwen's shout nearly makes her jump out of her skin. She doesn't show it, though. Just a touch of a hand to her chest, and a soft breath. Then, her eyes follow the fighting-master's gaze. [break][break]

"... Lizzy?"[break][break]

The dark makes it hard to see, but as her eyes adjust, she finds she's only half right. If Lizzy were caked in cinnabar, had grown a crown a feathers, had regressed to the distant past...[break][break]

"No. You're somethin' else."[break][break]

The light that pours off its body bakes her skin like the hottest summer day. She doesn't avert her eyes. Staring into the distant past, she wonders what supremacy this creature has to look and act like it is. Kingship is, after all, earned.[break][break]

"Shuwen... don't think you should look away."[break][break]

It's a test. Break eye-contact, and you admit you're weaker. You admit you're nothing more than its subject, its prey. For now, it just stares at them, unsure what to do with intruders from its own abandoned future. [break][break]

Even so, the whimpers grow behind her... [break][break]

"We're not here to cause any harm. Not lookin' for a fight."[break][break]

She assures the King, but whether her words will reach him...[break][break]

He doesn’t look away. Shuwen paces behind Tsubaki, his eyes trained on the king. Unlike her, he does not try and defuse this predicament. This creature, which greater women will call Koraidon, shares Shuwen’s fighting spirit. Battle is their nature, their warrant to exist and to move through the world. When two such creatures meet, what happens next is inevitable struggle.[break][break]
Behind them, its brother still whimpers. His cry is that of a cornered, wounded beast. He sounds like he has something to fight for, too, but no will to carry out the fight. Shuwen extends his left hand out, giving a single thumbs up.[break][break]
Koraidon, the winged king, sees this as a reason to begin the assault. Shuwen steps forward into the arena. Sunlight reflects off the dozen-dozen tera crystals scattered across the room. In their lights are reflected a hundred worlds. In them are worlds where Tsubaki sits as a queen on a poisoned throne, or worlds where a bomb detonates early. Kouji Matsubara and a younger Tsubaki scatter like a gestalt painting against the wall of a Pokemon Center.[break][break]
They reflect Shuwen’s fists as they slam against Koraidon’s. When Shuwen stands in focus beneath the tera, there is only the here and now, punctuated by the past. There is only one world where he exists, one path he can walk. Surging strikes are put on a collision course with scarlet claws. Both circle after the exchange, a stand-off that places Tsubaki and the younger brother squarely in the middle of the action.

"N-Navy! Where are you!?"[break][break]

If Shuwen's here, he must be. And yet, the fighting master's nowhere in sight...[break][break]

"Shit... you're gonna be okay!"[break][break]

She calls out to the wounded king, ducking down and running to its side. The beast snarls loud enough to nearly knock her from her feet, but she doesn't stray from its side despite its bared fangs. If Shuwen can hold off the worst of the feathered serpent's brother, then she just needs to wait it out...[break][break]

"Are you hurt? Sick? What's wrong?"[break][break]

She searches the coiled up beast for signs of an injury, desperate to help. [break][break]

His arms throw out quick jabs, pulling back like a retreating Ekans. Koraidon tries to maul him with superior strength, but the dragon does not account for footwork. Technique keeps the Urshifu alive in a battle between man and monster.[break][break]
Koraidon charges. Shuwen sees it coming out of the corner of his eye and steps aside. King clashes against king. Two against one more than evens the score. With the apex predator’s attention divided, Shuwen finds an opening and sends the king crashing back. Only then, as both kings disappear in a flash of terastallized light, does Navy stumble out of the dark.[break][break]
