Standing in front of the large Tera crystal, Zev scanned the instructions written beneath it. "This prompt is pointless. I've never wanted to be a Gym Leader," he muttered.[break][break]

Yet the void of white around him and jayden cross transformed anyway. The brilliant emptiness gave way to an arena fashioned to look like an urban street. Zev immediately recognized the storefronts and buildings from his old neighborhood in Saffron City.[break][break]

Except it was pitch black, with all the lights snuffed out. Ruins lay strewn about the arena as obstacles for challengers. Occasionally, an enormous laser beam cut across the battlefield, illuminating the scene with terrible light.[break][break]

Zev shrugged, unsurprised. "This will do."[break][break]

Jayden is not particular adept at design, so he leaves the details to Zev Harcourt. Though, he has to agree with the Beast. He too had never had a desire to be Gym Leader.

[break][break] Though, perhaps in another universe, where Rocket did not consume each and every aspect of his life, he may have chosen to be one. Ghost types were his fancy, after all.

"Have you been there before?" he asked. Then, giving up information about himself that was public knowledge, he added, "I lived and worked out of there for years while I was still a contractor." [break][break]

A door at the far end of the arena opened, spilling light through the entryway. Reluctant footsteps heralded the arrival of none other than MATIAS SILPH, his hands in his pockets, his expression clouded with annoyance. [break][break]

A layer of black crystals immediately covered Zev from head to foot. What is the Volatile doing here? he wondered. [break][break]

But the Elite Four did not seem to pay him or Jayden any attention. Instead, Matias looked around with visible boredom at the gym before uttering a sharp, "Tch. I guess it's all right." [break][break]

All around them, clapping erupted from the darkness. A soft pop! from above caused Zev to look up, only to watch as colorful confetti fell down upon the arena. [break][break]

"What the fuck?" Zev asked. It was the only thing to ask.

[break][break] Jayden knew of him and perhaps even knew those associated with him, even if he'd never directly made contact himself. In those days, his life was in shackles by his father's steady hand.

[break][break] Before his words could bear fruit, suddenly, something sharp as a earth spike pierced his chest. The sight of MATIAS SILPH had his eyes snapping to the source. And even though it was an illusion, HATRED warped the air around them ever the same, wind whipping with the force of his emotion.

[break][break] It was only when the illusion disappated, a Pop! signaling the fall of confetti, that Jayden realized he'd been holding his breath.

[break][break] "These simulations are really realistic," he muttered under his breath. His palms fell open at his side, blood dripping down. He hadn't realized, either, that he'd been digging his nails into them. "Let's go," he said instead, swiftly walking in the opposite direction towards this simulation's exit and into the next.

Zev did not answer Jayden's question right away, not while the simulation of Matias stalked the area. Only when they exited the "gym" and found themselves on a familiar battlefield did he speak up. [break][break]

"I was. I didn't come up with the moniker, though. It was something people in our business started calling me." [break][break]

The business being crime, of course. [break][break]

As the magenta sky of ancient Galar stretched over the men, Zev's gaze drew toward the gleaming metal embedded into stone. He almost ignored them a second time, so great was the urge to hunt down Eternatus' distant form. [break][break]

"The last time I was here, choosing the sword summoned a vision of Zacian," he explained to Jayden. A hand gestured to the two weapons. "We should choose the shield this time and see what happens." [break][break]

He could only assume the action would summon Zamazenta instead. [break][break]

With the Galarian starry sky stretching above them, it is a feeble comfort compared to the burning memory of the nation's VOLATILE.

[break][break] "The shield it is then," he agrees, glancing up at the two metallic weapons set in stone. He is reminded of the way they were sucked into that sword and shield, drawn into memories that were forever destined to be lost.

The Zamazenta emerged from the enormous stone, prompting a strange sense of déjà vu in Zev. He gave a slight shake of his head, clearing the feeling, as the Pokémon howled. He watched it transform and beckon toward him and Jayden. [break][break]

"I guess if we can't beat the shit out of Silph, Eternatus will have to do," Zev said, his body crawling with dark crystals. [break][break]

Without waiting for Jayden's response, he followed Zamazenta onto the battlefield. [break][break]

he had seen them before. The Heroic Duo that came out of the dream, that had been the thing that saved them from certain disaster.

[break][break] 'Where had that thought come from?'

[break][break] The admin shook his head, clearing the memory from his mind like clearing a cloud of fog, and instead focused on the task at hand. Zev Harcourt was already running into the battlefield and Jayden had no problem with following him. His DUOBLADE slid into his hands and he fought alongside the gilded Zamazenta and the Black Hand.

[break][break] Dynamax Pokemon slid like crystals against his blade, shattering upon impact from the sword's midas touch.

[break][break] When all is said and done, a SPRINGTIDE STORM clears them from the field.

The simulation states that the Pokemon is a Miraidon: a robotic, calculating dragon able to scorch the earth into ash. No other data exists pertaining to this Iron Serpent. Curiously, it seems paired with you.[break][break]

A roar rattles down the tunnel. Another Miraidon hovers toward you in ultimate form, its jet engines pulsing blue and electrical bolts sparking from its metallic plating.[break][break]

You're in the middle of a territorial dispute and there's no way out.

In the midst of battle, ancient Galar transformed into a familiar cavern. Terastal crystals covered every inch of its surface, glittering in resplendent colors, both tantalizing and dangerous. Zev had been in the middle of battle alongside his Blacephalon, but upon seeing the change in scenery, he paused. [break][break]

The strange, purple Pokémon was there, waiting for him and Jayden. [break][break]

"This again," Zev said, a hint of surprise entering his voice. He relaxed his stance and walked toward the robotic creature. [break][break]

"I've seen this before in the RKS machine," he added, for Jayden's benefit. "A Miraidon. There should be another one coming." [break][break]

As if summoned, a roar resounded through the cavern, heralding the arrival of a second Paradox Pokémon. It bristled with obvious hostility for a moment before charging. Zev's Blacephalon jumped in its path, attempting to slow it down with FIRE BLAST. [break][break]
