Josh had come to a mansion in Slateport expecting to take care of some Pokémon. He wasn't expecting to take care of a toddler. The young man was good with children ages five through twelve. As proved by his run-in with Calpurnia Kubrick 's toddler, he was not so with ones only a year or two old. "Nathan, wanna play outside?" he asked, if anything to get the troublesome one away from the socket before he shocked himself.

Were the child and Ava to agree, they would be greeted by some of the Gym Leader's smaller, though still large, saddled Pokémon. Among them were a Furret, a Vaporeon, a Leafeon, and a Sylveon. None with dangerous elements such as fire or electricity, none extremely fast, and none ornery. While they were only able to seat one adult each, the Furret in particular normally requiring unusual posture, they would be plenty big for a toddler to hop onto with a little help.

If the young, energetic child loved Pokémon, being ferried about the giant, fenced backyard could keep him entertained for hours -- and make the lives of both Josh and Ava much easier.
