It starts from a sapling breaking through the earth, leaves sprouting as a weak stem gradually grows and hardens into bark. With time, the world begins to flood with viridian shades, giant roots sinking into the dirt as a giant tree watches its branches scrape the bottom of clouds. The forest is peaceful, wild pokemon chattering and wandering about. Flowers bloom amidst the foliage, precious crystablooms surrounding the base of the tree.[break][break]

For a moment, it all kind of looks like the Tree of Life. Except surrounded by far less water, and still continuing to flourish instead of having been absorbed.[break][break]

"It was about survival, adapting to your environment. Whatever danger or underhanded tricks the wild might throw at you." She looks up to the sunlight filtering through the sprawling canopy. Though her eyes don't gleam the same, the gentle twitch of her lips conveys her innermost thoughts.[break][break]

Even if the human has nothing to say on the matter, Hattori loves this place. He’s out of Navy’s pokeball, jumping up through the trees like a carefree child. All of the many tools he has for traversing the landscape are brought to bear. He swings from vines, clings to trees, rides a wave of water upward, so much more. It is the first time Eris will have been granted a good look at Navy’s frog since the battle in the Ultra Deep Sea.[break][break]
The one-eyed frog is burned. Burned black. Burned to a crisp. Some might call that form shiny, but both shinobi and Lord wish that he had acquired that shiny coat at a smaller price. Hattori waves to Eris like nothing is wrong. The little frog enjoys her forest.[break][break]
“It’s pretty, I’ll give it that. Never knew you were in the minor league.” He’d never put two and two together about a certain name on the minor league docket. There was no point. By then, he had all his badges.[break][break]
“Cool gym. Never took you for a grass trainer.” Which, of course, she isn’t, but he’s into the classics – trainers who stick strictly to one central type. It’s why he styles his gym as the dragon gym. Hattori’s tera type is even dragon.[break][break]
“You get a lot of traction when you had the place?”

Footsteps alert them to a newcomer. Navy turns, hand on a pokeball. Hattori already clings to the newcomer’s back, a dagger to their throat. Playful though he was, he gets serious quick. The one eyed frog blinks upon realizing exactly who he’s clinging to so tightly. [break][break]
“Yo! Good to see you guys. Guess I’ll be inspecting your gym today. Let’s see what you’ve got.” Hand in his pocket, the old Navy grins and walks past them. His gray eyes focus on nothing and everything all at once. His comments make little sense given the specifics of the gym. [break][break]
“Miss being that guy.” Navy remarks with a sad smile. “Guess that’s what happens, living here. Get changed.”

Logically speaking, there's no reason for things to change between her and Navy should he become an E4. But why does she feel as if everything just might?[break][break]

He is not the highlight of their conversation, nor a ghost that should haunt her to her grave. Navy is as serious and genuine as he can be regarding his wishes to become an E4 and she really should be responding to him in kind.[break][break]

"Danger is danger, but I'm not that high up on the list of people that Rocket intend to get rid of. Becoming part of the Elite Four puts you on their radar, even more than before." Clenching her fist, she can feel her arm begin to hurt from all the effort she exerts. "You want to be a hero so you can protect other people... but who's gonna protect you when you need help? Her words slow, as does her breathing. Measured. Controlled.
