With her wounds mostly healed, Shalin felt comfortable signing up for the Vital City Tournament, if only to improve her combat skills. The war had made her realize how inadequate they were. She much preferred Ranger work, though as a Captain, she couldn't exactly pick her tasks.

The sheer efficiency that the tournament's healing machines operated at was a marvel of the event: they worked faster than ones at most Pokémon Centers, making sure the Pokémon were all in top shape for each round. This was going to be a long day: battle after battle. With them being only one Pokémon per side, at the very least they would be quick. As Shalin was sipping on a bottle of water, an announcement blared over the venue's loudspeakers:

"Attention all Vital City Tournament participants. Pairings are up for round six. Pairings are up for round six."

Pulling up the list on her phone, she scrolled down to her name and found her opponent and her assigned arena number. That opponent was Tempest Quinn .

Shalin took her place on her assigned side of the battleground. "Good luck to--" the Captain waved before stopping cold. "...You." Her demeanor suddenly changed. Though she may not have been able to fully see the Rocket's identifying features, they had tussled enough times that she would recognize Tempest Quinn anywhere.

Tempest's disguise wasn't as intricate as other Rocket's were. It made sense for Shalin Nariya, or others who had met him, to recognize him. Even if you drew freckles on your face and styled your hair different, it didn't change who you were.[break][break]

Shalin gives him a stink eye when Tempest rises up to the stage. He raises a brow, glancing over her body idly.[break][break]

"Someone beat you up, girlie?" But whatever else happens, he doesn't comment on it. It had been a while since they last clashed.[break][break]

"I'm not up to trouble today." Was an idle promise, before Tempest clicked his tongue. His Eevee stepped forward, the energetic pokemon lashing his tail. "Just one of my little guys." While Hati was strong, he wasn't a vicious killer like his Shadow parents. He shook himself out, tail puffing up as he lumbered forward.[break][break]

A moment was given for Shalin to call out her pokemon. This was, after all, a 'friendly' battle.[break][break]

"You think? Being stuck in bed for weeks at a time is no fun." It was clear that there was still animosity between the two. It would encourage the girl to battle all the harder with her Beedrill. With a click of her Poké Ball's switch, the Shiny wasp large enough for her to fly on made her loud appearance, pointing both her stings at the Eevee. The Captain's KEY STONE glinted in the spotlight, though she had to be careful when to use it. When Mega Evolved, Queen Zing was far less controllable.

Taking to the air, the oversized vespid lunged toward the former Shadow Pokémon, raising her venomous rear barb. She extended her sharp FELL STINGER, burning poison dripping from its tip, aiming to plunge it into Hati.

The Eevee let out a playful bark, chattering away and thrilled with the prospect of battle. Even with the large stinger gleaming in the light, she lunged forward.[break][break]

The Eevee did her best to dance around the first few jabs, but finally the Fell Stinger caught her on the hind leg. She yelped and snarled, flame burning in her throat. The Burning Jealousy launched from her maw, teeth shining from the surge of heat. She whipped her head around like a dragon, bouncing around to try and both scorch her opponent and get some distance.

While the sting was potent, the split second it took Queen Zing to retract her barb left her open to be blindsided by the Eevee's unexpected fire-type attack. She landed and rest her singed wings, her mobility advantage severely reduced from the well-placed and well-hidden attack.

With her being grounded for the moment, the only way she could continue to apply pressure to the Eevee was with needles fired out of her foreleg stings. While they lacked the potency of her rear sting's venom, they were still plenty poisonous. The now-silent wasp pointed her foreleg stings at Hati, flurries of TWINEEDLE threatening to pelt, pierce, and poison the small, excited foe.

Hati yelped at the sudden Twinneedle barrage. They scraped and poked before she got the sense to back up, dancing and hopping further away from her opponent. When she was far enough away, the Eevee took a deep breath and held it for a moment.[break][break]

Then, ice flooded from her maw as she poured out a Frost Breath at the Beedrill.[break][break]

Tempest laughed, a sudden loud bark, grinning and pleased with himself. The stuff Hati knew was something he was proud of.[break][break]

"Her mom's my Flareon and her dad's my husband's Glaceon." While it would sound innocent, Shalin knew who he was. She would know exactly how dangerous that the Shadow Eeveelutions he and Cillian Quinn had were.

Little did Shalin know that Temp and Cillian Quinn were related. She wouldn't let the familial remarks bother her, though. Nor did she care. She just wanted this match over with, wanting nothing to do with her opponent. Having clashed over their ideals before, Shalin knew there was no world in which they would get along. That would fuel her mercilessness, raising two fingers over her MEGA CIRCLET. The light of MEGA EVOLUTION would transform Queen Zing into her apex form, and it was a form of mercilessness, brutality, and nature at her worst.

The coat of heavy ice from the FROST BREATH gone, there would be no more subtlety from the Mega Beedrill. Just unbridled rage. Her blue eyes pulsating with vigor, Queen Zing's wings roared in an effort to pin Hati down with one DRAGON HAMMER before crunching her with the next.

Mega Evolution energy is unleashed. Tempest watches it with some fascination before raising his own arm.[break][break]

The Z-Bracelet shines from the copse of strands on his wrist. Tangled with other bracelets, it shines bright as his own pokemon is filled with Z-Energy. The Crystal attached helping him to channel it into Hati.[break][break]

The Eevee glows brilliantly as she surges forward to meet Queen Zing in a flurry of attacks. Her own Dragon Hammer energy surges through her, intending to meet the other in the middle. The power of the move transformed into a Devastating Drake.

The surges of dragon energy collided with one another in a purple explosion too intense for Shalin to watch. She tilted her head toward the ground in an effort to shield her eyes. An eerie silence filled the arena. No buzzing noise. No sound of violent Pokémon attacks being thrown back and forth.

Once the light faded, Hali would find herself near a motionless green wasp. "Such power..." Shalin gasped as the side judge waved a green flag in Temp's direction and a red flag in hers. She looked speechless; she had worn her Sygna Suit for so long that she had forgotten just how destructive her Yanmega's own Z-Move was.
