It was hard not to know he was about to battle the current Head Ranger - though he didn't know anything about Ollie beyond that. Which just meant that today was going to be a learning experience.

"And nice to meet you too, Tofu! My Beheeyem here's Elga."

While Hideo waved down towards the Pikachu (courtesy of his Beheeyem telling him where it was), his Beheeyem merely watched, making no movements beyond moving its head.

"Alright, let's have a good fight!"

That Pikachu was a speedy one. And Hideo knew his Beheeyem did not match that kind of speed, so it'd be at a disadvantage.

So that just meant he had to lower its speed. "Elga, slow it down!"

Bits of rocks rose from the ground, a Rock Tomb sent flying towards the Pikachu, attempting to intercept it before the Trailblaze reached it.

The attempt to slow the Pikachu failed - even serving as a way for it to get closer. The first hit went to Ollie, but Hideo had to make sure there wouldn't be more than just that one hit.

"Elga! Toss it aside!"

The Beheeyem's arm swung to the side, pointed straight towards the Pikachu. The lights on its hand blinked rapidly as the Psychic energy built up, aiming to grab the Pikachu and toss it aside.

But would it take before that Iron Tail came swinging in its direction?

The Beheeyem had the Pikachu in its hold; all it had to do was toss it around until it was knocked out. Easy, straightforward, and reliable.

Until the Discharge came by. It was forced to choose between risking getting paralyzed, or letting the Pikachu go so it could escape.

It chose the latter, releasing its Psychic grip. As it did, rocks were pulled out of the ground, coalescing into a single large one, blocking the Discharge.

And that Rock Tomb wasn't merely a shield: once the Discharge was gone, that Rock Tomb was sent flying straight for the Pikachu.

[break][break] Ollie's eyes widened at the sight of rocks pierced through the ground. Undoubtedly meant to slice through Tofu like chopped liver. He had to stop it. He raised his arm, the glow of his DYNAMAX BAND shimmering like a star.

Hideo's Beheeyem notified him the moment that Dynamax Band was raised up. Hideo had yet to fight against a Dynamax'd Pokemon, and all he knew is that it made the Pokemon much larger and much tougher - almost like a Mega Evolution.

And man, did that small mouse grow. Hideo would've pulled out his Z-ring, but his Beheeyem gave him a quick reminder that it would not work with his Sygna Suit on. Dang.

Now just for one more pressing question, before the Disarming Voice got sent out: "Hey, is your Pikachu just as squishy when it's Dynamax'd?" Normal ones were pretty squishy Pokemon, if they let him squish them.

Just as the Disarming Voice was fired, the Beheeyem flexed its vocal chords as well, letting out a Round to disperse the incoming attack - and as a retaliation.

Well, that was just something he'd have to learn in the future. Or learn for himself with one of his own Pokemon: would his Whimsicott be just as soft and squishy when it was taller than a building? "Now you got me wanting to get Dynamax for my own Pokemon!"

When he could afford it.

Hideo'd heard rumors of Pikachus that could Surf, but he'd only thought of them as rumors: he didn't expect Ollie's to be able to use it. And the water came in fast, courtesy of the Pikachu's size.

Not good.

"Elga, get up!" Hideo ordered. His Beheeyem lifted itself up, but those waves came in too quickly; his Beheeyem tossed out a panicked Rock Tomb, trying to stop its opponent before the waves became overwhelming.

[break][break] "Man, you know, you're a pretty good battler. What'd you say your name was again, Hideo?" And it was only then, that things began to click. "Wait a sec - you're ! You're a minor gym leader."

Perhaps the one downside to Dynamaxing was that it made the Pokemon a larger target - not a great thing if it truly was just as squishy as it was at normal size. Hideo was tempted to ask Ollie for a chance to test his question about a Dynamax's softness, but it wore off before he got a chance.

Oh well.

Hideo's Beheeyem informed him of the outstretched hand, and Telepathically guided him so he knew where to meet it.

He smiled for a moment, expecting to be praised for his skill in his role - only for his smile to waver when he was congratulated on his previous spot.

"Well, if you think you had no chance against a Minor Gym Leader, then I gotta be the bearer of bad news: I'm a proper Gym Leader now! Got the Gym in Littleroot; feel free to visit it sometime!"
