Everything since the battle near Dewford had become far too busy for him to take a visit to the other, so it was chance that they met on the battlefield.

[break][break] Though, by this point, all requests were in good humor — Ollie already knew. Michael Navidson would never be a Ranger.

“Yeah, weird how we keep bumping into each other.” He grins at the head ranger, a man who was once his king. Necessity has made him a master liar. Navy hides the old urge to bow, suppresses his need to ask Ollie how the queen and the children are doing.[break][break]
That was another life. Envious though he is of Ollie, he does not begrudge the man his innocent ignorance. They have lives to live in the here and now. Just like all the other times Ollie’s asked, even in jest, a tinge of guilt colors his smile.[break][break]
“How many times do I gotta tell you, just not an outdoorsman.” [break][break]
Roland, at least, offers a machine laugh. The Iron Valiant steps up, holding his blade up and giving Ollie a fencer’s bow. Courtesy comes easy to this machine thanks to the soul that inspired him.[break][break]

Roland pays no mind to the pageantry of the banter. Instead, he focuses on the Pikachu. He seems reluctant to strike, as much as he can seem reluctant about anything. Eventually, Roland flicks his blade forward. The strike is reluctant, meant to push back and deflect rather than harm.

Glib words, framed with an amused chuckle. Behind the glibness and the uptick of his lips is steel. Pacing behind Roland, he observes his Pokemon with a general’s critical eye.[break][break]
“Roland, take this seriously.” He chides the Iron Valiant. “Anything less is disrespectful to Ollie and Tofu.” Pulling a black orb from his pocket, Navy holds it out towards his Pokemon. Within that orb, he believes, is the power of infinite possibility. Energy pulls into the ball, sending a rumbling deep into his bones, tracing up his arm.[break][break]
Roland sees a world dominated by land as he dons his crown. He rushes forward, knowing that the blow will prove vicious with his new typing. A pink blade streaked with earthen power sweeps towards Tofu.[break][break]
“Tofu fits you, by the way. Damn if he isn’t a charming little battler.”

[break][break] Soon enough, glimmers of TERA CRYSTAL light showed onto the battlefield as Navy commanded his pokemon to take this match seriously. The pink blade arced towards Tofu powerfully, who wasn't quick enough to dodge the blow. Ollie winced. Ouch.

[break][break] Blinking, the Head Ranger looked back at the Elite Four as he was spoken to.

[break][break] "Oh! Thanks," he said with a chuckle. "Guess I could say the same for you and Roland. He's a pretty cool dude!"

Roland makes a sound that might be mistaken for laughter. It is like nails scraped against bare fiber wire. Ollie can coax a machine to mirth, glum though that mirth might look on him. Tofu’s iron tail clashes with the warrior’s blade.[break][break]
The catch-all name for this augmented strike, tera blast, does it little justice. In the Iron Valiant’s hand, it is a slice – a cut so precise as to be surgical. Logic engines calculate the precise angle at which to cut, replacing warm blood with cold desire for victory.[break][break]
“I miss his brother.” Only when the words are said does he recognize their sour taste. Roland bears the name of a Gallade that perished in the battle of Dewford. To hear Navy tell it, they share a soul. His brother, Olivier, met his end in the same dark waters.[break][break]
“Come on, Roland! Gotta look good for the crowd!” He calls out, forcing the smile back. The eyes of Hoenn are upon them. This is no place for grief, especially in good company.

“Yeah, well,” his smile is pensive, “what can you do?” Aged though his soul and his body might be, those words are an echo of a younger man. He’s used that tone with Ollie before, when he was younger and flipping burgers. He used it when a case didn’t go his way and the client wanted their money back.[break][break]
To delve any deeper on the issue is to risk allowing League politics to spill out for the wider region to see. Navy suspects neither one of them truly wants that.[break][break]
Roland hangs on by a thread. He plays the part of a knight holding out until the very end. Blessed with offensive prowess by the grace of a tera crystal, he finds that offense is not enough. Before the overwhelming wall of Dynamax, his blade threatens to shatter.[break][break]
Yet still, he fights.[break][break]
