As the duo prepared to roll out and rescue a group of hostages from Rocket clutches, Thomas began to carefully contemplate not only his equipment, but the Pokemon he'd bring with him. A Zoroark and Joltik were the first Pokemon that came to mind. Kuma Lisa's Illusions would prove invaluable for the element of stealth. Byte's small size made her not only an excellent scout, but a handy non-lethal weapon.

"So, how'd you want to do this, exactly? I'd rather not start a skirmish with hostages in the crossfire. Thankfully, I got plenty of Pokemon that can do stealth.", he'd ask Navy, while giving out some of his own advice.

“Lucky for us, I’ve got an expert.” Peering through a pair of binoculars, he looks over the compound. Stealth isn’t his forte, but he has a guy who can handle it just fine. Lucky for him, he’s always got the guy’s Pokeball on hand, too. Some dragon gym leader or fighting elite four he is, always carrying around a water Pokemon.[break][break]
Hattori appears in a red flash, already kneeling low to the ground. Burned black by Groudon’s flame, eye gouged out by Rocket, the tiny frog looks like he’s been put through the wringer. More of a big Frogadier than a proper sized Greninja, he’s a master at fitting through cramped places like air vents.[break][break]
“We’ll get the hostages out, then take out whoever’s inside.” He whispers the command. “Hattori, throw up a smoke signal when you’re done.”[break][break]
Hattori disappears into shadows without nothing but a nod. He’s gone, sneaking past patrols and spotlights, through the dark edges of camp where human eyes fail to tread.[break][break]

"Very well, then I can have Byte accompany Hattori.", Thomas offered Michael.

If the Greninja allowed it, the Joltik latched onto the Greninja for the ride over. If not, the Joltik made her own way over, using her tiny body to easily sneak into the camp. Cover was extremely plentiful for such a tiny creature.

Meanwhile, where the two left them, Thomas spotted a particular set of tracks, not too far from their position.

"Looks like an old friend made their way through these parts.", Thomas remarked grimly. Thanks to the events of late May, he recognized the mysterious tracks as Ting Lu's.

“Yeah, an old friend.” His smile has no humor. “Seems more like a herpes flare-up.” Gunmetal eyes find the tracks. They trace off to Arceus knows where. Eventually, with no rhyme or reason, they seem to stop completely.[break][break]
“People talk about ruination all the time, but no one can say what it’s actually gonna be. Just…an apocalypse.” The conversation is whispered while he monitors Hattori’s progress. His Greninja is more than willing to let a fellow stealth expert catch a ride. They slip in through a crack too small for most other Pokemon.[break][break]
“After what happened with the meteor, feels like we’ve already been through one. Arceus, feels forever ago.” Twenty-one years ago for him, probably just a scarce few years for Thomas. “And you guys were there for all of it, on the frontlines.”

A Spinarak hops onto Thomas' back. Before he can do much about it, his Zoroark quickly takes out the spider with an Extrasensory burst. The smaller spider falls off of Thomas' back, onto its back. The attack left the Poison-type twitching, but clearly alive.

"Thanks, Lisa.", Thomas told the Zoroark, who nodded to him.

Was that another wild Spinarak? Or was that a Rocket Spinarak, brought on to capture them? Though if it was trained to capture them, surely the Spinarak would've tried to restrain them with String Shot, before landing on one of them.

"Sadly, I wasn't able to glean much about Ruination myself. Though I have to ask myself: is this another machination of the Drk Triad, or was this what they fear so much? Is this why they were so desperate to cull our reality, to prevent something like this from spreading to others?", Thomas muses.

"Right. Officially, I was in Verdanturf, trying to help those who I could in town. But you know the truth of the matter.", Thomas remarked.

The battle of Littleroot. Acting on his outrage over Rocket's interference, over their greed and selfishness, Thomas joined the fray as the Wraith. Alongside Andraste Breathnach, he terrorized the terrorists, before one of the Drk Triad intervened with Dialga.

Though he thought the plan of kicking the can to another world was abhorrent, and that he wished there was another way, they did what they had to do to save their home. And Rocket almost screwed that up.

“Huh.” Navy watches Hattori’s progress. Rocket doesn’t know what’s hitting them. Occasionally, his Greninja stops to let Joltik shock a grunt. The camp is slowly, surely, being systematically taken apart. It reminds him of a certain video game he’s seen Kyle play.[break][break]
“Our Pokemon are a pair of badasses look at ‘em go.” Momentarily, his pride in their Pokemon overwhelms his desire to speak to the matter at hand. Only after he’s obliviously spoken the words does he focus on Thomas’s point.[break][break]
“Whatever ruination is, it’s bad. All we can do is fight when the time comes.” There’s something inherently defeatist about those words. “Doesn’t seem like there’s anything we can do to stop it. Whole region’s in this wild race to the bottom. Bet Eternatus and Dynamaxing are gonna be a big part of ruination.”

The Joltik and Greninja duo made short work of the guards they came across. Thanks to her tiny size, the Joltik had no problems sneaking through small spaces, and taking out the humans with well-placed Electroweb shots.

"I'm proud of them both.", Thomas remarked.

Upon hearing his remarks about ruination, Thomas nodded in agreement. "Whatever happens, we need to start drawing up plans for evacuation, and mitigating casualties. I'll try to get Noah on board for some talks about Verdanturf.", Thomas remarks.

Hopefully noah faber was willing to discuss such plans. Given his relationship with kyle lopez, surely he could talk with the Champion about safeguards. Problem was, they'd likely need to adapt to whatever monkey wrenches were thrown into the mix.

A cry that was all too familiar resounded from below. "You know anything about the source of the cries?", inquired Thomas. "I've been hearing it all day. There's another one that's been going less frequently."

Gotta get folks ready.” Dewford, that faraway town on the edge of everywhere, could fall if they are not careful. “Got some shelters in Dewford, ones built in a panic after the Ultra Beast war. Used ‘em last November when Kyogre swam by. Been thinking they’d serve as an emergency shelter when ruination hits. Problem is…what if it doesn’t end in a few days? Most big incidents seem to be three days, a week tops. Then it’s just clean-up.”[break][break]
Grim thoughts as he hears more cries. It almost startles Hattori, but it startles the Rockets more. Soon, the whole base is knocked out, incapacitated, or tied up in a web. His Greninja simply starts untying people and opens the front gate. They have a bit more time to talk.[break][break]
“As for the noises? No clue. All I’ll say is…feels like something big’s about to happen.” He marvels at the crystals around, and those below him.[break][break]
“There’s legendaries down here. Countless tera crystals, too. League or Rocket one’s gonna stumble on something. The other side’ll want to fight about it. Then – well, you know how it goes.”

"Fallout shelters, eh? Suppose I had something similar cooking with my underground tunnel network. I can easily house people in the Biomes. Though the Tera Tunnels have threatened to encroach on the Biomes, and with how they've played a part in other disasters, I have to wonder if Tera Crystals will play a part in Ruination. Not to mention potentially compromising our underground measures.", Thomas remarked.

The duo managed to take out the Rocket camp on their own. As the hostages were set freed, and escorted to safety, Thomas couldn't help but smile.

"Legendary Pokemon, eh? That tracks. I tried to ask Matias about what was going on earlier, he gave me jack shit.", Thomas told Michael.

Did MATIAS SILPH know about this as well? Or was he genuinely out of the loop.

"After the shit they pulled after we dealt with Kyurem, I wouldn't be surprised if they start shit now. And just like the last time, they probably got those ANVIL assholes waiting in the wings."

Suddenly, an earthquake rocked the area violently. The Zoroark moved in to Protect her master, as well as Navy.

“Don’t be too hard on the guy.” Navy says before the earthquake. “Just his thing – acting like an asshole. Truth is, he probably doesn’t know any more than the rest of us. Untapped resource, both sides sitting tight on the time bomb.” And, eventually, boom.[break][break]
The rumble of the earthquake lodges him from the thoughts. Those they rescued hunker down, protected by Hattori and his new friend. Some well-placed substitutes absorb most of the force.[break][break]
“We should get going, get these people back before another earthquake hits. I’ll get you a file with what I know. Arceus knows we need all the help we can get…” Which might well cause problems. Sighing, Navy tries to nip that in the bud.[break][break]
“You reconsider joining up with the League? Know you’re technically some kind of foreign national, but you’d do great in HBIC or the military. Putting together a little squad. Would love to have you along for the ride.”

Thomas picked up on the way Navy spoke of Matias. "Something happen between you two?", Thomas inquired. Clearly, Thomas was out of the loop for a lot of the more dickish things that Matias was up to.

The Joltik did what she could to help the newly freed hostages weather the earthquake. Truth be told, the Greninja, with his Substitutes, did most of the work.

After the earthquake subsided, that mysterious cry resonated from below. Was it responsible for the earthquake? Or was it Ting-Lu, or even Regirock?

"On it.", Thomas responded, giving a nod to his Zoroark.

Kuma Lisa's Illusions would prove vital in moving the hostages back to the nearest League encampment undetected.

"You know, I don't know what capacity I'd do it in, but I'm thinkin' I'm back!", Thomas answered Navy.

Though his work with Gunner Graves gave him a taste of his old life, as an Interpol Agent, the military was also a good fit for him.
