Before she can act, Tsubaki whistles. She'd noticed the fae aura surrounding the duck before, but now she makes an overt command to her companion, a veteran of many battles. [break][break]

"Wait, Kiki! Know you're pissed, but go after the pink one! It's protectin' the duck!"[break][break]

In all her rage, the Nidoqueen seems to understand. She bristles in anger, pins on her armor standing on end as she shoots out a massive deluge of black sludge that stains the beach a deep violet, a poison especially corrosive to the pink fairy.[break][break]

Thank Arceus for Lam. Thinks the sheriff as he crosses his arms. He’s all smiles, even if he wants the badge just as bad as Tsubaki. King and Baki both need to learn this lesson. Better he’s the one teachin’ it than priam conrad and his Gabite.[break][break]
Left to his own devices, King never notices Cleo – not when she’s poised behind him, not when the moonlight gathers. Only when it blasts him in the back does he notice, turning all roars and rampages.[break][break]
“King! Don’t use Earthquake.” The command is given just as the tail is raised, ready to slam down and dole pain upon every soul in the area. “Jab ‘em.”[break][break]
King’s hands are razor sharp, leaking with poison. Though the Nidoking wavers after that hefty hit, he’s still standing. How much longer that will last is anyone’s guess, especially with Peaches being a menace in the background. For now, his sharpened claw slams into Cleo to try and end their guard of terror.

He had wondered when they might catch on to Cleo’s little trick. Naturally, it’s only a matter of one domino falling before the rest drop in quick succession. The fluff of Cleo’s pink body ruffles up as she gives a little shake. The sparkle of LIFE DEW cast outward toward Peaches before it shimmers around herself.[break][break]
But it is simply not enough.[break][break]
The onslaught of both poison attacks proves too much for the clefairy to resist any longer. With a dramatic cry, she pitches backward–both of her tiny arms pinwheeling in an attempt to prolong her protection for just a moment longer.[break][break]
“Good effort, Cleo,” Lam calls with a sigh, recalling the clefairy as the green tips of her ears twitch and then still as she slips into unconsciousness. The pale aura that had radiated from the psyduck fades with her lack of attentiveness.[break][break]
Peaches watches as both of the nidos turn on her companion. Electricity continues to stagnate her movements. The lingering shocks still causing her muscles to seize up. The psyduck lets out a tittering grumble of psy yais as her narrowed gaze shifts from King to Kiki. With the FRIEND GUARD faltering and failing around her, she is left prone–so it becomes necessary to work as quickly as she can.[break][break]
No matter how stymied she is.[break][break]
If there was one thing Cleo managed with her time before they wised up and tag-teamed her, though, it was whittling away at the Nidoking. Little sparks of electricity zing off of her feathers as the static makes them rise–fluffed up and comedic looking despite the indignant air she continues to carry herself with as she awkwardly shuffles to turn toward King.[break][break]
The well of her type draws from deep within her, and the psyduck’s bill opens with a haughty cry–the HYDRO PUMP an attempt to blast a torrent of water at her target.[break][break]
Attempt being the key word.
