Volcanic ashes from Mt. Chimney were a problem, given that they could make people sick. The townspeople in Fallarbor Town were already getting sick from the ashes being spread there and Ollie Morales had asked Elise to help with medical care for the ill. She arrives near the infirmary outside to treat the people who were lying down in cots. Those sick people reminded her of her late mother who also lied in her hospital, sick from the terminal illness that claimed her life.[break][break]

“Charles, help me with this man over here.” The royal ambassador in her dark blue ranger’s uniform and pink tie nods over to the floating Calyrex as the High King looks down at a coughing man with rust-colored hair. While the dark magenta haired Galarian royal gives the man some cough medicine from a small cup, a Heal Pulse from the Calyrex helps to soothe the man’s coughing fit.

The glorious empyrean oceans above Lavaridge Town remained hidden by plumes of hot smoke and ash. Where once a vibrant sun brought color to Hoenn, which rivaled the feathers of Ho-Oh, only shadows and gloom stained and dulled the landscape. Living so close to a slumbering giant had its risks. However, these risks never seemed to be enough to force those living at its base to move elsewhere. Strange environmental curiosities caused the currents of the heavens to change, and the ashfall became worse than before. Fallabor and surrounding routes had become encased in ashes when previously there was nothing more than a residue. Now the settlement of Lavaridge stood in the path of the ashen misery.

The new environmental change threatened the local ecosystem. It was up to members of the League to step in and lend aid to the people and Pokemon, whose homes were now in danger. Michael Davis took on the task without a second thought, even as a Cadet of the Pokemon Rangers. He had no medical training save for the skills he learned upon becoming a Ranger. Michael would make himself useful despite this setback. The man and his Charmander partner sought their superior, Elise Calcifet, whom the Ranger Station to make a rendezvous. Both were determined to make a difference.

The pair soon spotted Elise and Charles. They made their approach, and Michael spoke up.

"Ms. Elise?" he asked, ensuring he had the right person. "I'm Michael Davis, and this is Eimyrja. We're here to help in any way we can."

A blond man approached and since this man had his ranger uniform on, his help would come at a good time. “Good day, Mr. Michael. I think you already know who I am, but this is my partner, Charles. He’s my Calyrex.” The female ranger cadet bowed her head slightly in greeting to the man and his partner Pokemon, a Charmander and introduced her partner in turn. “I would love the extra help that you can give us.” While the rust-color haired man that she’s treating would cough a little, Elise is happy to see that his fits were not as prevalent anymore.[break][break]

The hare king with his pear-shaped crown greeted the Charmander with a wave while the woman moved to over to a younger woman with brunette short hair who was lying in her cot and had been coughing. “Do you have medical experience, Mr. Michael?” Elise asks while she prepares a warm wet cloth to put over the coughing woman’s forehead. “In truth, I wanted to do this because I believe that having medical experience too will benefit in helping my people affected by disaster relief here. There are Galarian immigrants that I have the pleasure of treating because I’m their princess and ambassador.”

Like the plumes in the sky and the ash falling like snow, the dire atmosphere of these events threatened to weigh Michael down and choke him. It was perfectly normal for anyone to feel overwhelmed. The wellbeing of all remained at stake. However, the Ranger's resolve remained resolute. He adamantly refused to be engulfed by the storm of chaos. People needed him. Pokemon needed him.

The Cadet's mind hanged onto every word that passed from Elise's lips. Her voice, a melody, had the power to keep spirits high. And as Michael listened, one piece of information embedded itself deep in his core.

The Cadet was unsure if he heard Elise correctly. Michael's thoughts slowed as emotions of whimsy and excitement swelled. Did Elise say that she was royalty? Or was the hot air already beginning to take its toll on the man's mind?

"A Princess?" Michael asked to confirm whether he was going insane. "Wow, I've never met an actual Princess before! It's a tremendous honor, your Highness. And it's an honor to meet you, Charles. As for medical training, I only know what we learned while becoming Cadets. That, and basic medical knowledge. I'm no Doctor, but I will do anything in my power to help."

Michael glanced toward the smoking mountain in the distance. A grimace dulled the smile that brightened his face.

"If only I had some Water Pokemon," he sighed. "Even a Flying Type might help."

Eimyrja looked up to her partner after acquainting herself with the King of Hares. Her shimmering eyes showed a sadness in them. She knew he was right. As a Fire Pokemon, there was little she could logically do against a volcanic threat.

Like the stir in the winds, a shift in Michael's thinking process occurred! His eyes grew brighter as the smile returned!

"Lightbulb!" he beamed, looking at Eimyrja's fire-tipped tail before fixing his gaze on Elise once more.

"Princess, is there anything that requires a flame? Boiling water? Disinfecting medical equipment?"

A nod came from the dark magenta haired royal when he mentioned that he had medical training learned from being cadets and basic medical knowledge. “That’s good, I’ve mostly been training at Colonel Sullivan’s platoon since the medical specialists are very helpful in giving me pointers on my medical care.” Colonel Sullivan had been a nice man to help her with continuing the medical training she had since the incident with Kyurem and the Unbound Hoopa. [break][break]

“With your Charmander’s help, I’d like your Pokemon to help boil the water.” Her reply came with a smile as she places the warm wet cloth onto the brunette woman’s head. His Charmander reminded her of her personal guard’s Charizard though this one appeared to have a different air around her.[break][break]

The High King uses Aromatherapy to clear the volcanic fumes around the medical camp. “Charles is known as the King of Bountiful Harvests because his power makes the crops grow. It’s why he was named a King of Galar in ancient times by the people of the Crown Tundra, but he was largely forgotten over time when his powers waned.” She’ll make a bit of conversation about her Pokemon while the small hare king looks over to the resting woman on her cot.

Michael's enthusiasm stoked the fires within Eimyrja. Her Cadet partner brought up excellent points! She would be useful after all!

"A King, you say?" Michael inquired, his smiling features blessing the crowned Pokemon.

To the King and the Princess, the Cadet and his Charmander offered a polite bow. It was the right thing to do when in the presence of Royalty.

"I was ecstatic to be partnered up with Eimyrja here," Michael expressed with a softer smile. "I was born in Kanto. Naturally, when I got to pick my partner when I signed up to be a Ranger, I had to choose Charmander. She may not be a Queen from a distant land, but she's special to me all the same."

Michael smiled at Eimyrja with a glint in his eye.

"Alright, let's get to boiling some water, Eimyrja!" he cheered!

"Char-mander!" Eimyrja responded with a swift nod!

“He’s a king that was worshipped by the Crown Tundra’s people a very long time ago.” The diplomat answers the ranger’s inquiry when she’ll give the cup of cough medicine for her patient to drink. Luckily, the cough medicine helps to make the coughs from the brunette woman feel a bit better before Michael talks about his partner Pokemon and his being from Kanto.[break][break]

From what Elise knew, that region was actually under occupation by Rocket right now. “She sounds very sweet… I was born and raised in Johto until the failed invasion by Rocket happened and then I stayed in Galar after my family moved.” Taking a Moon Ball from her belt, the ranger cadet presses a button to release her Mismagius out. “This is my main partner, Mana, she’s a gift from my late mother and she has a mother who belonged to my late mother too.”[break][break]

Her Mismagius gives a little smile as she’ll greet the female working Charmander.

"Lovely to meet you, Mana," Michael greeted with a light bow of his head.

Hearing of the Princess's mother pulled at the Cadet's heartstrings. His empathy poured forth like an endless wellspring.

“I’m...I’m sorry,” he managed to say, his voice choked with remorse. "I couldn't bear to think of losing either of my parents. She must have been an incredible, rare gem to have a daughter like you."

Michael drew a slow breath through his nostrils to recenter his thoughts. Putting on a smile, he looked toward Eimyrja, who was now at the outpost’s water container.

The bond between the Charmander and the Ranger had made significant progress, even though they had only been acquainted for a short period. And as intelligent as she was, she didn’t need to await specific commands. Eimyrja felt a fiery warmth building up in her core as she took a deep breath. Then, she loosed a stream of flames directed at the base of the metal container!

“Good job using Flamethrower, Eimyrja!” Michael cheered on! “I’m proud of you!”

As saddened as the diplomat would be, she already knew that her mother would not be around someday. Her father was even more devastated and she had said to him that she’ll stay at his estate until the family is able to heal. “I know she would have loved to meet my Calyrex. I’ve told her about him when I was able to visit her at the Rustboro Hospital before she passed…but thank you for that.” She’ll respond with a little sad smile.[break][break]

While she helped to tend to the sick female patient, the ranger cadet take notice of the ranger’s Charmander doing her thing correctly. “Right now, taking care of my people in Hoenn is a priority. It’s my duty as their ruler to look after the Galarian people since my elder cousin passed the burden of Galarian Ambassador to Hoenn over to me.” [break][break]

The High King back at the Dyna Tree would be watching, he’s desiring to see how she handles both her qualities and conflicts as a leader and representative figure of her country.

By now, Eimyrja's powerful flames had thoroughly heated the container and boiled the water within. Michael watched with pride as his arms remained folded over his chest.

"They're very lucky to have a leader like you to look up to," the Cadet commended. "You're stepping up in a time of crisis. I know that if I was a citizen of Galar, I'd be proud to know you were helping us."

The Ranger's smile broadened as his Charmander approached, her task complete. He knelt down onto the ground to grant the fire salamander many deserved head pats.

"What else would you have us do, Princess?" the Ranger asked.

Though she tried her best to be the leader figure her people needed, the diplomat still got slandered by the Prime Minister. All of the Galarians back home would’ve thought she betrayed their country to be in Hoenn. Her reason to stay in Hoenn was legitimate since Remiel had given her the position of being a foreign diplomat for their country. [break][break]

“Thank you, I’m…trying my best.” She replies while the purple-haired woman finishes with making sure her patient wasn’t coughing from the ash. Her partnered shard legendary keeps up with Aromatherapy and making the air clean too. “I can let you deal with another patient if you so desire.” Elise answers his question with a little nod.[break][break]

Something about his name was a bit familiar… She had only known the old family of knights that protected her family that her personal guard was a descendant of and they’d still operate as members of the Royal Guard for the Calcifets. [break][break]

“You name is familiar.” The Galarian royal takes note of it while she tries to think of what bearer had it. “I’ve heard of a Galarian knight that had the same name you do. Is he one of your ancestors?”[break][break]

The Ranger gave an affirming nod at the Princess's request. Assisting patients shouldn't be too hard. It required basic care and rudimentary Medical knowledge, as far as Michael knew. But before he could undergo his new task, the Galarian Royal posed a peculiar proposal.

"My name?" Michael asked, his left eyebrow raising as intrigue took its hold. "A Galarian Knight had my name? Like, full name? Last name?"

The Cadet then shrugged, unsure if he could recollect anything.

"I'm not sure. Maybe?" he relented. "I don't remember my parents saying anything about Knights being in our family."

When Michael gives a bit of intrigue over his heritage and asks if she meant his last name, the diplomat nods. “I did mean your last name, but I suppose I might be misremembering all of the families of knights that served my family.” There were a lot of knightly orders that her family keeps track of and only those really served the Galarian crown. “My boyfriend’s family, the Osmonds, has served mine for a long time. My father requested that he’d serve as my personal guard.”[break][break]

That did get the question of if Michael’s parents never looked back into the family’s own bloodline from back then. “Your parents never spoke to you about it? My father did when we were still living in Ecruteak with my mother and they’ll take my little sister and I to Galar. We’ll visit my aunt and her children at the Calcifet Palace.” She recalled fond memories of her and Remiel playing together in the garden, a game of tag that they both enjoyed. [break][break]
