He had been waiting for a long time when he heard what sounded like footsteps approaching quickly. Were they running? he asked himself. Before he could dwell on it too much, a cry sounded from in front of him. Well, it seemed he had caught the attention of a Pokémon, and from the sound of her, she was a Wigglytuff, which meant she probably had an owner nearby.

His prediction, although not much of one, was confirmed when he heard the sound of a woman's voice scolding her Pokémon before running off.

"Oh, don't worry about it. It says a lot about my cooking, I hope, if it can attract a Pokémon," he said with a small chuckle, absentmindedly putting a calming hand on Tempest when he felt her tense against his leg. The Manectric instantly calmed down, allowing him to turn his attention back to the woman and her Pokémon.

As she commented on the smell of the sweets, a warm swell of pride filled him. "Thank you. I baked these as a way to get more people interested in trying out my restaurant, Kasumi's Eatery. Of course, we also serve entrees," he explained to the other teenager. If she was paying attention, she might notice that he didn't look directly at her as he spoke, instead looking slightly off to the side.

"Anyway, these are free samples, so feel free to grab a few for you and your Pokémon. If you like them and want to buy some, I have another table right there," he said, gesturing towards another table behind him. It was clear that the Manectric was also keeping an eye on this table.[break] Thea Naito

At the question, he nodded. There wasn't much of a reason for a verbal response in his opinion. Not much of a reason to continue a conversation that would just go on and on about the same things. Besides, he felt it was more of a rhetorical question than anything since he had already all but confirmed that he had been the one to make the treats.

"It's no problem, really," he said in response to her gratitude. In fact, it should be him who thanked her for trying his confections.

At the compliment, his face heated up a bit in embarrassment, but a small smile still graced his lips. "Thanks, though I'm sure with practice, you could become just as good as me. On that note, if there ever comes a time you need pointers, I do offer cooking lessons outside of restaurant hours."

The idea of introducing himself had completely slipped his mind. It was a good thing the customer was paying attention to stuff like that.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. My name's Shinobu, however, if you find my name too much of a mouthful, I also go by Shin," he said and was just about to offer his hand as a handshake when Tempest bumped against him.

A signal that she was doing something he was unaware of. Since she wasn't growling or anything, he assumed it had something to do with their introduction. Perhaps she already had her own hand out.

"I'm afraid if you're trying to shake my hand, I'm blind," he commented as he absently patted Tempest.[break] Thea Naito

“If you look at our site, our hours are listed. My aunt set up a site for people to know our hours. Though I’m sure she also did it, so I remember what they are as well; she’s under the impression I work too much,” he said with a small shrug. So he didn’t really like taking time off; that was just because he liked doing what he did.

At the mention of his name, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Perhaps not to someone like you or me, but think of it from a kid's perspective. Most people who have struggled with saying my name have been children. I guess it’s a bit of a mouthful for a child.”

Hearing the apology, he waved it off. “Don’t worry about it; it’s not like I said something when we first started talking. I sometimes forget that not everyone knows I’m blind. I’m just so used to it that I forget; even though I wasn’t born blind.”

The change in conversation made him raise his brow, but he let it slide. “Thank you; she’s my main guide pokemon, though I’m hoping to train my Riolu to guide me around as well once she’s fully evolved. It’ll be a lot easier to have her guide me around the restaurant instead of having to go back to relying on a cane,” he explained as he continued to stroke the top of Tempest's head.[break] Thea Naito

Of course he didn’t know what the site looked like, but he wasn’t worried. His aunt worked with computers for a living, so she had a talent when it came to anything that had to do with computers; it was why he had trusted her to set up the site. Not everyone could say that.

Yeah, though Shin was still easier to say. That didn’t mean he didn’t like his full name. Just that he wasn’t bothered when people shortened it. It had actually been his sister who had been the one to shorten it. Despite her having only been two years younger, he could clearly remember how much of a struggle it had been for her to say his name at first.

"Well, I’m happy to hear you two like my name,” he said with a small smile.

Well, that was a surprise. “It’s not actually that uncommon. Of course you probably haven’t met a lot of people around your own age who are blind. One could actually ditch a guide Pokémon and replace it with a Pokémon that has telepathy and can tell you where to go if they want, but that’s still using a Pokémon to aid you,” he pointed out.

At the question, he shook his head. “While it’s true there are some Pokémon that would be good at cooking, I don’t have any in my possession. Besides, I don’t want to become too dependent on Pokémon. I believe one should try to do what they can on their own. I believe people are capable of amazing things on their own.”[break] Thea Naito
