“I don’t think so.” Pulling out a zippo, he lights up a cigar. It calms him, like it always does. Somehow, he doubts a fire specialist will mind the smoke.[break][break]
“Winter let me intervene. I beat up my dad. Little punk that I was took the wrong lesson from it.” He wonders if he should tell the whole story, and then decides it’s better someone knows. “That me was an Elite Four when Slateport attacked. That train that took off north for Rustboro got derailed cause the League gave a bad order. That me ended up going to Rocket.”[break][break]
He hates that he did, and the sentiment is almost snarled.[break][break]
“He was good. He hurt people ‘cause he could, and ‘cause no one could stop him. You were the only one he couldn’t kill, ‘til he pissed off every Rocket after Galar so bad Walsh marked him for death. I hate that I could be like that, if things turned out different.” [break][break]

as he listens to the elite four tell their story of another life lived, he nods every now and then and does his best not to judge. but when they bring up one point in particular, he can't help but chuckle.

"one bad order is all it took?"

from what he's seen of the man so far, he can't say he's surprised. he always knew they were similar; he just didn't want to accept it.

when the question is asked in return, he nods, deciding to share.

"in mine, i stayed behind in the sea kingdom and made peace with them. i learned their ways, their history, their struggles, all in the hope of understanding them better and in turn, myself.

"i learned a life without groudon is not as bleak as it seems. if anything, it might even be a blessing."

As Matias graces him with his ear, so Navy listens in return. Sea Hoenn is another of the many abstracts of this region he knows nothing about. Folk great and small tell him about other worlds. When extracting ore in Eternatus’s core, he has seen visions of a world where Matias’s patron won. Going there, much less staying in another world, seems a strange prospect, like being a stranger in a familiar land.[break][break]
That a peaceful path exists for Matias, somewhere and when, seems to Navy a great boon. Maybe Kyle’ll rest easy if that happens in this world, not some other one. He thinks.[break][break]
“Hey, cut that other me some slack. He was a twenty-one year old rockstar when he joined up.” He undercuts the severity of Matias’s own story with a joke about his, although there is something frighteningly insightful about the remark. When a man known as the volatile questions one’s stability, it is cause for concern.[break][break]
“But is that…something you’d want here, if you could manage it? Cutting your tie with Groudon?”

though the offer is appreciated, he can't help but feel the dangers associated with it as the last time they came face to face resulted in many deaths. he'd hate for navy to go through that again.
