Kyle’s last location was probably around Mt. Chimney and its other areas. She did hear that Josh Devlin attained being a champion ranked trainer, but his match wasn’t public to the audience yet. Elise hoped that she’ll be strong enough to take on the Elite Four challenge if that was something she could be interested in. Her gym badge count had gone up to four right now, but…there was the more pressing issue in finding Kyle’s remains.[break][break]

If she and Alex can find his body at all.[break][break]

“Kyle was a good man from the interaction I had with him at the last conflict.” The Galarian royal is solemn from hearing about the news of Kyle’s death at the league’s statement. “It is a shame that I didn’t talk with him more.” She wasn’t there at the incident, so she can’t blame herself for not being able to be there for him. That was the job of the Champion of the Hoenn region to keep the region and its people safe.[break][break]

By her side, the floating Kartana helps to look around for clues. Yamato’s paper-like body sways with the wind as she looks down for a form of tracks.

He would shrug, before having to put on a face mask because Mount Chimney was incredibly sooty and would pose a health risk if they stayed around the area too long.

“Here, Miss Elise, take a face mask,” he would offer his companion before they started searching.

Safety first, after all!

“You think we’ll find anything out here, under all the ash…?” he continued; though he was skeptical.

From what he knew about kyle lopez, the other had a tendency to shy and/or hide away from the spotlight unless absolutely needed…

She didn’t hear much of what the Verdanturf gym leader did, but the diplomat understood about losing a loved one. “That sounds so terrible from the way that he is going through this. I do understand that he won’t hold a state funeral unless the former Top Champion is somehow alive.” Elise replied though she did feel bad that she wasn’t there to console the former Top Champion’s partner, namely because the ambassador was busy with catching up on some work.[break][break]

“Thank you.” She puts on the face mask when he hands her a spare. Mt. Chimney had been a soot-filled place ever since the incident with the death of the former Top Champion took place. “I would hope so. There should be some clue over whether we can find where he might be.” Maybe the Galarian royal is optimistic that Kyle himself was alive and not dead like the League’s statement would present.

“Fastest way we can check if there’s anything around? One sec.”

He would then rummage around his pockets, before pulling out a Friend Ball and two Moon Balls, before popping them open and summoning his Braviary; Salamence; and Lucario.

“Kyouya, Gabe. Can you help us search from the skies?” he would ask the two, who were about to start arguing like the old men that they were.

“We’re out here looking for someone, let us know if you find anything, okay?”

The two would give him this searching look, before squawking and growling quietly and then taking off to fly into the ashen skies above them.

“Meanwhile, Vincent can help us out down here with his aura powers…”

The Lucario would nod their way.

“Hey, I’m just being practical out here.”

With the gym leader sending out three of his Pokemon to help with the search, both the shiny Braviary and Salamence were good for searching from the air. From what she had learned from the Dragonology Compendium written by Councilwoman Morningstar, Salamence were known to express joy by flying around and releasing intense blasts of fire. They also lost a sense of self in flying into an uncontrollable rampage when they’re enraged…[break][break]

Was that what happened with her captor, the poor Rocket grunt lady that Gabriel the Salamence stayed behind to deal with? She’ll probably never know unless she asked.[break][break]

Yamato Takeru the Kartana floats ahead of the pair with her paper-like body going along with the wind. She searches on ground since the Kartana wanted to stay there than going into the air like the flying Pokemon up there.[break][break]

Meanwhile…[break][break]

“Maybe Charles can help too.” The Galarian ambassador speaks before she summons the shard Calyrex out of his Dive Ball. “Can you try and use Future Sight to determine a path?”[break][break]

A nod comes from the hare king before his bulbous head glows light green. Future Sight’s blue glow takes the shard of Calyrex as Charles tries to scry for a path to take in finding the whereabouts of one Kyle Lopez.

With the way the ash fall swirled around them, it reminded him so much of the Sand Stream ability—only instead of it being dirt and swirling grit, it was literal volcanic ash coming from the top of Mount Chimney raining down all around them.

He was right to offer Miss Elise a mask, after all.

“Wait, don’t tell me you’re—” he would trail off, before realizing that the Calyrex was back and now trying to peer into the future—

Would that work?

“You think kyle lopez’s out here, just hiding in some like… ‘secret base’ somewhere and laughing his ass off watching everyone panic?” he would muse out loud as the Lucario would then attempt to do an ‘aura sweep’ around the immediate area to pick up any unfamiliar signs of life that they would otherwise miss.

“…because if he is, it’s working.”
