18 experience bioluminescent plants or pokemon suddenly douse their lights in response to a threat.

38 explore a deeper, water-filled cave system or trench that requires diving suits, a vessel, or the creative use of a pokemon. in the trench. certain sections are more acidic and unhealthy than others, while others are purely channels of blood.

42 encounter glowing pink eyes that begin to manifest everywhere.

The fleshy floor squishes and slaps under Tempest's boots. He wrinkles his nose at the sound, pausing in his walking to consult a small data pad.[break][break]

"We should be far enough away from League camps now."[break][break]

With a small sigh of relief, Tempest whistles for his pokemon to start unloading their share of the carried materials. This place was some type of spongy, open crack. A hidden-enough room for himself and Cillian Quinn to overtake for Rocket.[break][break]

"What do you think? This place doesn't stink too much, right?"

Cillian removes the rebreather, still dripping with blood, so that he might take a breath of the Deep Sea air. He wrinkles his nose. The place never smelled pleasant.[break][break]

"It'll do."[break][break]

His Sylveon ILLUMINATES the space in a pale pink glow as its TELEKINESIS begins to organize the bundles of supplies they'd brought. It shines a SPOTLIGHT to show the other Pokémon where they should lay down their burdens, evidently enjoying the attention.[break][break]

His Dhelmise remains half-submerged in the bloody channel from which they'd hoisted themselves, Cillian's SYGNA SUIT pulsing with INFINITY ENERGY on account of its presence.[break][break]

Cillian would rather feel the dark pressure of his own power, but the suits were essential for extended exploration down here. They had to get the camp in order, then set up a small garden to farm for resources. That wasn't the kind of thing that could be done in a flash.[break][break]

"No Nihilego this time. Maybe they're avoiding me."[break][break]

His voice rings normal when he wears the suit, his smile not nearly as sharp. A shame.

At Tempest's ear, one of the mentioned angels floats. She is but a hatchling, immature and small. Forced from her shell too soon and clinging to the first 'mother' she had imprinted. The odd insides bring her some relief. She glows in small popping light to show her small joy.[break][break]

Another quick glance at the data pad.[break][break]

"This blood channel can provide a good nutrient base for the garden, but one of us will need to dive to install the irrigation system."[break][break]

it wouldn't be pleasant, much like coming here hadn't been.[break][break]

"We'll also need to clear out that little tunnel and make sure nothing is nesting inside." Tempest points at a black hole in the wall, some type of valve deeper into this hell-scape. "Which would you rather?"

"You're a better diver than I am."[break][break]

They might share a similar skill level, but Tempest's confidence set them apart. Cillian's Sygna Suit was designed for diving, but so was his husband's. Besides,[break][break]

"And I'm the one with the spooky claws, remember?" He grins with too-sharp teeth, flexing those claws in unnecessary demonstration. "I'll clear out the... tunnel."[break][break]

He'd rather not think about what it actually was.[break][break]

He swats Temp's ass in fond farewell, then descends into the 'tunnel' with his Eelektross swimming ahead. It's the first one to sense danger, COILING like a serpent. Cillian pauses behind it, Puca's light barely illuminating some kind of... nest? Seems Temp had been right to worry.[break][break]

Holes in the walls like pores held small purple eggs, many of them cracked and empty. Some still pulse with life, and Cillian carefully tucks one of them into his bag. Clicks of his tongue instruct the Eelektross to smash the others, which it does so using its DRAGON TAIL.[break][break]

A horrible buzzing fills his head when he's about halfway back, and he recognizes it instantly. He might've given up his Naganadel to Beckett, but there was no mistaking that sound.[break][break]

It was furious.[break][break]

Cillian whips around, chaining it with SHADOW HOLD before its stinger can spear him through the chest. He cuts its defenses with SHADOW DOWN, letting his Pokemon do the rest. DRAGON TAIL proves effective against the alien wasp, and Puca COPIES the Eelektross' technique.[break][break]

After that, they return to the budding settlement.[break][break]

"I found an egg. Think it might be a Poipole. Found its guardian, too, but we cleared it out. Shouldn't be a problem. Did you see it fly in, or were you still under?"

Temp is sent off with an ass swat, which makes him chuckle. A sharp and hungry grin is shot at Cillian Quinn, only diminished by his (honestly, pretty silly looking) Sygna suit and the fact they inside of another creature. When Cil departs down the 'tunnel', Temp flips on his visors and rebreather and hops back down into the stinking river. This stuff was always so hard to wash out of his hair after, tacky and sticky as it dried down.[break][break]

The items needed aren't hard to haul down; they only need the hose and part of the pump down here. What is hard is actually swimming in the blood. It's thinner than human blood, whatever it is, but is still thicker than water. It's viscous and murky the deeper he dives. Beside him, his Kabutops; Durandal is speedy and will react quickly if anything dangerous pops up.[break][break]

Temp's own adventure isn't as exciting as what happens to Cillian. He fumbles with the mechanics before getting it all set up, hoses clamped and connected together. The actual pump is wedged into a small hole and weighted down. A flip of the switch. Up above, Cillian would see the light turn on from the other end, followed by dry sucking, then by a spurt of the bloody liquid pooling on the ground.[break][break]

Coming up a few moment later, Temp grimaces as he shakes the filth clinging to his suit off.[break][break]

"Couldn't even see my own nose down there." Tempest joked, but he did cock his head to the side and glance upwards. The cavern stretched onwards and upwards, dark and deep enough to hide secrets above if they were unlucky.[break][break]

"Hey, at least you got an egg! Might be handy down the line."

"Shame," Cillian sighs. "It's a cute nose."[break][break]

He taps his husband's nose with a scarred index finger, offering a smirk. There's an ease in the affection, even surrounded by horrific alien life as they were.[break][break]

He shrugs off the comment about the egg, not nearly as invested in it as he would be if it were a Shadow Pokémon. Slowly but surely, the shadows have overtaken all other obsessions. Even his beloved fossils could not compare.[break][break]

"Hopefully these grow nicely."[break][break]

The bioluminescent plants served a dual purpose, shedding light on the small outpost while also providing a potential source of sustenance if someone were to find themselves trapped by the League or the hostile environment. Cillian's admiring the soft light of the shrooms when they suddenly go dark, as if someone had flicked a light switch.[break][break]

Only these were plants, and they weren't supposed to do that.[break][break]

His ease vanishes in a heartbeat, the back of his neck prickling as he whirls around in search of an unknown threat. Even Puca has doused his glow, as if the Sylveon understood why the plants had done the same.[break][break]

Cillian reaches for Temp in the dark, seeking comfort. Breath catches in his throat. He wants to ask his husband if he knows what might be going on, but fears attracting the attention of... whatever had alarmed the flora and fauna of this unsettling place. Puca curls around his thigh, and he can feel the tension in the Sylveon's muscles.

Cillian Quinn flirts with him, poking his nose, and Tempest finds his face heating up. A broad grin stretches across his face, warmth shifting in his chest. It was not that Cillian was rare with his affections for Temp, just that the other man had that much of an effect on him. Sweet words from his lower would always have him giddy.[break][break]

"If we can get the system to work, we can grow Rhubarb and Beansprouts. They love the dark."[break][break]

At least from a cursory search online it had seemed like that might work. Maybe he should ask someone who knew a little more about it? Eh, well, either way, the plants here were edible so-[break][break]

The lights were gone.[break][break]

Tempest sucks in a breath, sharp. The place is suddenly, eerily silent. Even the flow of blood in the walls, the sounds of this body keeping itself alive, seems to halt.[break][break]

"Cillian...?"[break][break]

Is whispered. That single word hangs thick in the air for a long moment.[break][break]

Tempest is about to flick on his flashlight when an eye opens.[break][break]

Pink, glowing, and something other worldly. It almost reminds him of a child's drawing of an eye, bright pink. It doesn't emit light, yet Tempest can see it perfectly in the dark from where he kneels.[break][break]

This one eye is followed by another, then another, then another, until a few dozen of the things hang in stasis in the air around them. There is no rhyme or reason, no pattern to them. The pupils move slowly around the room, as if searching, before they all blink closed again.[break][break]

Gone as if never there to start.

"I'll have to trust your word on that," Cillian shrugs; his knowledge of gardening was limited to a few tips he'd picked up from his mother, and none of them to do with growing food. He knew how to groom a Roselia's roses and how to encourage a Gloom to blossom into its purest Grass-type form, and he'd learned how to grow berries thanks to his hydroponic garden, but not this.[break][break]

His thoughts grow fearful and sharp as they're plunged into darkness. He winces when Temp calls for him, not even daring to hush his lover. He reaches for him, instead, hoping to reassure without words.[break][break]

But even that little sound had been too much.[break][break]

Eyes sprout like eerie blooms in the dark, pink and wide and staring. Cillian knows not what perceives them, only that it cannot possibly be good.[break][break]

"We need to leave," he hisses urgently under his breath. With the danger already summoned, Puca ILLUMINATES once more to guide them to the bloody channel. "Now."[break][break]

He tugs his rebreather up and plunges without grace into the depths, hoping only that whatever they'd awoken would not follow them through here.

None of the eyes linger on them, thankfully, and when they vanish and Puca lights back up- Tempest breaths out a shaky breath he hadn't realized he as holding. He blinks, shaking off fear that had frozen his body and was bleeding down to his core.[break][break]

"Mother forbid, what was that?" The phantom eyes had appeared before, not that Tempest realized it; his battle with Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki was little more than a blur in memory. Pushing himself to his feet, Tempest abandoned the project to follow Cillian Quinn.[break][break]

Blood rushed up to meet him when he splashed into the channel.[break][break]

Regardless of whatever that had been, Tempest would be back.
