“Chomper, attack that weird-looking Jigglypuff! Fire Fang!” The trainer of dragons ordered. Unfortunately, her partner’s flame-coated jaws could not pierce the Scream Tail’s own barrier, whereas the dazzle of the latter’s gleam was super effective enough to beat the Hydreigon within an inch of its life.

With her ace Pokémon badly hurt and boasting abysmal chances against a confirmed Fairy type, Andrea had to resort to something with more of a neutral matchup…

“PON!”

A green blur descended upon the Scream Tail, conking it on the head with an Ivy Cudgel. The pink puffball staggered backwards, feeling woozy.

“Thanks, Pon! You’re the best!” The eccentric trainer said to the strange Oni-like creature that had just entered the fray. “We haven’t won just yet, so stay on alert!” The girl added with a resolute look.

Roaring Moon had come out worse for wear in his fight against Hydreigon, so much so that even before its Acrobatics could land a shot, it had been struck down by the dazzling gleam, two Dark/Dragons taken down after a painful, rough fight against one another. It was to be expected, what Kouji didn’t expect was the pokemon he saw just now.

”The hell is this?” He exclaimed as it attacked, it had a lot of pressure, strength. It was his instinct as a fighter that told him not to face this thing unless he was prepared to lose a lot.

The type of feel that legendary Pokémon had.
[break][break]
”And why is it so cute?” He stopped himself from going any further, there was a fight to be had, and Weavile had to hold its own as the Scream Tail returned to throw out another annoying attack, or rather a status towards the ice type, Thunder Wave made the muscles of the ice type seize up mid strike, the Ice Spinner turned into more of an ice pirouette, its speed cut killing its impact.

“That’s Pon. She’s my friend!” The young PokéManiac casually replied, while the diminutive ogress repeated her signature, jovial cry of “Pon!”

After having crippled one of the combatants, Jigglypuff’s billion-year-old ancestor sang a song; not its descendant’s famous lullaby, but a foreboding requiem instead.

Tick tock, a clock ticked towards certain doom. Three turns remaining.

“Gotta finish this fast!” Andrea said, before pulling a Full Heal out of her cleavage (yes, you read that right). “Use this on your Weavile.” She said, handing the medicine to Kouji.

It was a tearing sound, too loud and it also sunk into one’s bones, he knew the move well, and Kouji hated it regardless of what anyone said about it. Perish Song was a deadly move in groups, an ending of mutual destruction just made the whole weaker.

Yeah, he couldn’t agree with this creature’s world just as he had thought before.

”Thanks! I’ll pay ya back for it.” Kouji said as he took the heal, and applied it to his pokemon who could feel its full strength returning to it, sharpening its claws as they grew longer, sharper, harsher; a dance that was really for one’s mind more than anything else.

”We’ll create the opening, finish it off.” He said before he Weavile nodded, dashing forward with shining claws, Metal Claw went to cut the Scream Tail, aiming for the small legs of the creature, and smashing into the floor; the ice type smashed upwards with the same claw causing rocks to shoot up, and hide the strike of its second hand.

Scream Tail received a brutal beatdown courtesy of an un-paralyzed Weavile, each strike sending it bouncing backwards. Eventually, the Paradox Pokémon was driven into the edge of a steep cliff.

“Now, Pon, finish it off with a Power Whip!”

“Pon! PON!”

A large, thick vine clotheslined the ancient Jigglypuff, sending the pink puffball falling into the dark, bottomless chasm below.

The clock stopped ticking.

“Nice teamwork!” Andrea beamed, flashing a hearty thumbs up at Kouji. For a moment, she forgot that they were in opposing factions.

The fight was done, Pon had finished it off with the power whip. While Weavile mirrored Andrea, Kouji chuckled instead.

”Aye, we wrapped that up pretty nicely.” He said as he rolled his shoulder, some discomfort still existed from before. ”Name’s Kouji.” An introduction for his battle buddy of a short while.

He extended his hand for a shake, but not before putting a final word in.

”I’m still keeping this side, though.”

The white-haired youth finally introduced himself proper, the girl following suit. “Nice to meet you, Kouji. My name’s Andrea.” Her Hydreigon-shaped glove clamped its ‘jaws’ around his hand, shaking it.

“Since our battle ended in a draw, how about we both keep this side?” The dragon maiden proposed with a smile, withdrawing her injured Hydreigon into its ball.

“Pon! Pon!”

A nearby cluster of Tera Crystals caught Ogerpon’s treasure-obsessed eye, the Oni pointing incessantly at it.

It felt strange to simply share the side after all of it, then again it wasn’t as if Kouji could mine everything in this area, so he drew back his Weavile and released his Duraludon. ”Okay, okay, okay! We can share this side, gosh, stop twisting my arm.” He tried to exaggerate after giving in so easily.

”Wait, you’re one of the gym leaders that is kinda a gym leader?” He had looked at the gym challenge before. He crossed his arms over his chest before looking around for a moment.

”Makes sense why you were so strong, especially with that Pon as well.” He pointed at the Ogerpon, a subtle smirk on his face. Maybe one day he’d get the blood pumping fight he wa- Nah, he didn’t even want that at the present. As if his fighting spirit had been taken away from him.

“Oops, sorry.” Andrea let go of his hand, the realization hitting her seconds later. “Oh, you meant it metaphorically!” She was pretty sure she lacked the physical strength to literally twist someone’s arm.

At the mention of her Gym, the girl perked up. “Yeah, I’m a Minor Gym Leader. It’s kinda like being a Gym Leader, but with less strings attached.” Namely being less subservient to the League, but she dared not say that out loud. “Feel free to pop by my Gym in Fallarbor anytime! And don’t worry about your, uhh… faction. As long as you love Pokémon, you’re welcome to challenge me even if you’re a Rocket!”

Ogerpon returned Kouji’s smirk, as if sensing whatever was left of his fighting spirit buried deep, deep within the man’s heart.

”Getting to have as many battles as ya want, and not having to do the boring jobs, heaven.” He joked, arms crossed over his chest as he nodded slowly. A smirk exchanged with Pon, and a sagely nod.

”Mah, I’ll definitely come give it a shot one of these days. Expect a blood-pumping battle that’ll be talked about for ages…Or something like that.” Kouji said before he rolled up his sleeves, and got ready to start mining. He expected a conflict, but who’d have thought he’d make a new friend.
