TFW PRELUDE

MOSSDEEP SCENARIO B-1, ft. Zev Harcourt

Movement rushed through the light. A spinning edge was caught in the air, an azure glow overtaking steel.

The light disappeared prematurely, receding unnaturally into crystal.

Standing low before the crystal man, the gym leader stabbed his azure blade towards the solar plexus, driving it upwards as Sacred Sword's power coiled around the weapon.

The blade crashed but did not shatter, bending unnaturally as the Gym Leader roared, pushing forth with his feet planted firmly into the watery shores, attempting to launch the crystal man back into the very same ship he had made landing.

Artillery shells descended upon the beach with deafening booms and sickening cracks, the timing seemingly perfect.

Fly, you damned monster!

TFW PRELUDE

MOSSDEEP SCENARIO B-1, ft. Zev Harcourt

It was not moving.

There was enough force behind the bending edge to fashion a Bus into a missile, but as if a statue rooted to the earth, the crystal man refused to budge an inch.

A literal immovable object. He had not accounted for gravity to bend to its will.

Behind them, the artillery crashed, blowing rocket ships to smithereens.

As one of them exploded, a ripple of dynergy tore through the coast, the earth rumbling as the mobile power spot was forcibly detonated.

In the distance, warring titans stumbled in their steps as their forms trembled, the energy empowering them dissipating.

And with that, his brief window of time was through.

He felt the cracks beginning to form, the vibrations running the length of his arm.

All the coiled energy had to go somewhere. But as a crystal hand sealed around the sword's guard, the option to retreat was crossed out entirely.

With a single step, the sword all but exploded, shards of steel flying about like shrapnel.

Only the exploding recoil of the overflowing energy prevented Gwyar from getting skewered entirely by the shattered edge, his body getting launched back by the dispersed force, bouncing across the wet coast before sliding to a slow stop on the sand, his lungs emptied as he gasped for air.

Numerous cuts ran along his face and arms where blade shrapnel had cut into, the dark red of blood beginning color the water around him.

What now?

Decades of training and experience, careful planning and tactics, and even bold, reckless courage. All dashed away by nothing but raw power. Not by a pokemon, but by a thing passing itself as a man.

A life time of consistent, focused effort was being disgraced, made meaningless.

His hand, still numb from holding that blade, squeezed at the sand as he forced himself to a sit, glassy eyes glaring ahead venomously, his jaw tight as messy locks of hair stuck to his forehead, dripping salt water and blood.

His every effort had failed. His everything made useless by capricious chance.

"To be fair." The blonde returned, hand twitching beneath the water, glimmering. "My teacher has not been terribly good at his job."

He would not go quietly into the night just because everything had failed. No— because everything had failed, he could not allow himself to die here.

His lifetime's efforts would not be undone by some mon—

A ripple tore through the coast, through the city, through the whole island and sea.

It whipped back his bangs right off his forehead, skin flapping against the shockwave as a deafening boom rose high into the sky, parting clouds as a brilliant, white light shone from the south.

Sootopolis.

His hand twitched as the enemy general moved once again— to turn his back on him.

A move charged with such careless, dismissive confidence it could've offended the gym leader, were it not for the shameful sense of brief relief that flooded his chest as the enemy flew away.

He flopped back onto the water as the enemy got further and further away, his Aegislash landing nearby whilst he stared up at the sky.

Slowly, he reached up for his earpiece, noting it was gone before reaching into his a pouch instead.

"GL Wledig here. The enemy is retreating." He informed over the comms. "We... we have succesfully defended Mossdeep. It is our victory."

He paused.

"Capture or kill as many stragglers as you can find." He ordered, before letting his hand flop back into the water.

"Victory..." He muttered.

His hand rose, comm clutched within his fist.

Crack.

His hand came slamming back into the sandy water, again and again.

"Victory, victory—?!" What a vile lie. What a disgusting joke.

Relief. Bloody eelief.

After having his everything denied, after his enemy turned its open back to him, after being spared—

"Bloody hell." He spat through grit teeth, throwing an arm over his eyes as he laid there.

Caladbolg stared silently, unable to make a sound, before slowly moving to stand guard over him, spreading out its tassels into broad curtains to protect its trainer's pride.
