everything happens so quickly, and before she knows it, josh is shouting at her to get down and the dragonite is a blur of movement, an almost invisible threat. miyako does as he says, practically diving off of the walking wake in her haste to avoid what she can't even see coming.[break][break]

she doesn't need to, though, as josh's command seems to reverberate through the air like a living thing, the dragon pulse the type of attack that makes her blood sing with adrenaline and fear. she doesn't quite know what to do with herself; she's out of her depth here, she's just along for the ride.[break][break]

she's a crime scene photographer, not a goddamn dragon-slayer.[break][break]

it seems like the wild dragonite was indeed hit by the dragon pulse, and she has just enough time to see josh throw an ultra ball at the dragon pokemon before it hits the ground.[break][break]

there's nothing she can do now but watch and wait. her heart pounds in her chest, adrenaline thrumming through her veins as she waits to see if the ultra ball will hold or if the dragonite will break free.[break][break]

maybe being a dragon-slayer isn't all that bad. it's a lot more exciting than taking pictures of dead bodies, at any rate.[break][break]

then, the ball stills, and she is left in the near silent aftermath. after a moment, joy surges into her chest. She bounds over to Josh, hand raised for a high five, her heart still racing as they prepare to celebrate the catch. "damn! nice catch!"

What a relief; Dragonite were fearsome foes. Quite rare in the wild, they could cause serious injury to an unprepared trainer. "Thanks," Josh replied, taking one knee to retrieve his catch. "You hear that humming noise it was making? That's how Dragonite use Extreme Speed - by flapping their wings like a bug." While it didn't afford them immense agility, it was part of how they reached supersonic flight speeds. "I'll have to come up with a name when I get back to the Gym."

Helping Miyako get to her feet if need be, Josh would ask her a question that might affect which wild Pokémon they ran into. "It's pretty calm out today. Would you want to fly to the top of the tower, or go on foot with Suicune?" he asked, teasing that he had multiple flying dragons with him...

miyako accepts the help up with a grateful smile. as much as she acts tough, she can admit that was a little too close for comfort.[break][break]

she dusts herself off, mind reeling from all she just witnessed. she knows it isn't the time to nerd out, so she settles for being close at josh's side. "i didn't know dragonite could do that," she admits, trying to sound casual. she tucks her hair behind her ears, trying not to look like she's about to pester him with a hundred questions.[break][break]

josh's question pulls her out of her reverie, and she grins at him, looking a little manic from the adrenaline and excitement. "you're offering me the chance to fly? let's do it! yeah, i'd love to. you choose the ride." she is interested in seeing the other dragons he mentioned. "this might be my only chance to see things from the sky. hell, it's now or never."

"How else do you think they fly around the world in 16 hours?" Josh laughed as the Poké Ball disappeared to the Pokémon Storage System. "Hold on, need to talk to my secretary for a bit." Turning around, he dialed the number for his Gym, and ANDREW WEISS was quick to answer. "Hey Andrew, it's Devlin. I sent a new Dragonite to Pokémon Storage. She'll be great friends for Tiamat. Can you log into my account and retrieve her? Thanks."

With that out of the way, Josh turned back around to face the officer. "Right, I don't think I ever said anything about it, but I don't use the Pokémon Storage System like most trainers do. I let all my Pokémon roam at my Gym north of Mauville. The office building is on northern city limits, while the Racing Grounds are north of the city proper. As it turns out, getting a land grant measured in square miles is a bit impossible within Mauville proper."

Withdrawing Suicune, Josh would prepare let his other dragons loose. "If you're adventurous, do I have the dragon for you. And don't say that!" he tried to reassure her. "Stick around here long enough, and I'm sure you'll find a Pokémon you'll be able to fly on! With how rough the terrain can be in Hoenn, I think it's a good idea for every trainer to raise a Pokémon that they can ride across land, sea, and sky. You won't be waiting at the airport all day anymore, heh!"

Before the suspense got too high, Josh clicked open Verte's Poké Ball, the Flygon landing between the two of them. His wings disappeared into multiple images, fluttering like a Beedrill's and sounding like a revving race car. "This is Verte, my Flygon. I also have a Noivern and Charizard with me if he's too... intimidating."

miyako grins at the joke, shaking her head. "i don't know, man. you've got all the fun facts!" she's only half joking, still a little embarrassed about her nerd-out earlier.[break][break]

she listens to josh's explanation, nodding along. it's interesting; she's never really given much thought to the ins and outs of pokemon training. she didn't realize josh didn't use the storage system like most. "yeah, yeah, i can see why it'd be hard to measure in square miles," she agrees, trying not to laugh.[break][break]

when josh withdraws suicune and gets ready to call out another dragon, miyako bounces on the balls of her feet, excited to see what pokemon he's going to bring out next. she is adventurous, that's for sure. she's not even scared by the prospect of riding a dragon, just excited to see what it's like.
josh's words make her pause, though. "do you really think so?" she asks, looking at him in surprise. "i've never really considered it before."[break][break]

she's never really had the opportunity to consider it, to be honest. it's a new idea, and it excites her. she could fly all around hoenn without ever bothering with airport security![break][break]

before she can dwell on it too much, vert swoops down to join them. she watches in amazement as the flygon lands, its wings fluttering like a race car. "oh, wow! he's... he's incredible!" she exclaims, eyes wide. she can't help but reach out to touch the flygon's wings, but she pulls her hand back at the last moment, remembering her manners. "i'd love to ride him if you're okay with it," she says, turning to josh with a grin. "i'm not scared of a little intimidation!"[break][break]

"What can I say?" Josh asked rhetorically with a sly smile on his face. "I've been studying fast Pokémon since well before I became a Gym Leader. I've loved fast Pokémon since before I was old enough to be a Trainer." His love of them was part of what inspired him to become a Trainer at all. "Just find a Pokémon that you think would be fun to hop onto! That's the most important part. Yes, fast travel is important, too, but so is having fun!"

Verte's wings became silent at Josh raising a hand. "You're welcome to! Just bear the feedback from his wings in mind - you might get a bit of a tingling sensation." The Gym Leader would help Miyako get into the saddle before climbing on behind her; though she would be riding in front, Josh would be the one holding the reins -- unless she asked to hold them!

miyako's eyes are wide with excitement as she approaches vert, barely containing her glee at the prospect of riding such a powerful and majestic creature. she'd be lying if she said she wasn't intimidated, but the good kind of intimidated - the kind that makes her feel alive.[break][break]

she nods at josh's warning, not even bothering to try and hide her grin. she doesn't even mind that he'll be holding the reins; she's just happy to be here.[break][break]

as she settles onto vert's back, miyako feels a strange tingling sensation run up her spine, like pins and needles but not entirely unpleasant. "whoa," she says, barely a whisper, as she tries to adjust to the feeling. is that caused by... the speed of its wings?[break][break]

once josh is settled behind her, miyako leans forward, ready for takeoff. "let's go!" she exclaims, eyes scanning the sky for any interesting pokemon.[break][break]

as if on cue, she spots a togekiss hovering overhead, its wings a blur as it darts through the clouds. she points it out to josh, practically bouncing in her seat with excitement. "look! a togekiss!" she exclaims, not even trying to hide her glee. "that's a sign of good luck, right?"[break][break]

she could really use that kind of luck in her day-to-day. miyako is convinced that she's the unluckiest girl in the world—what fucked up god did she piss off enough to become karma's enemy?[break][break]

maybe nabbing the togekiss could abate some of the sorrow of her life. with an exhilarated grin, miyako pops an empty quick ball off of her belt and throws it towards the togekiss.

It was, indeed, caused by the dragon-type's wingbeat rate. Flygon were unique among dragons in having insectile qualities to them. They largely were inherited from their specialization as Vibrava. In their intermediate forms, their wings were not powerful enough to fly far off the ground, but they could still tear up the air around them and induce headaches in their foes. Flygon refined those aspects so much more. "Alright, let's fly!" Josh called, squeezing Verte's sides.

With the agility of a Beedrill, the green dragon leaped skyward. While his wings were roaring like an engine, it wasn't overly loud; the tactile feedback was almost like being on a flying motorcycle. When he saw how much fun Miyako was having, he flicked the Flygon's reins, Verte putting on a sudden burst of vibration to mimic a motorcycle's kick.

When Miyako expressed interest in catching a Togekiss that was flying around, trying to evade being captured. If it knew Extreme Speed, there was no shot their mount was catching up with it. It seemed that it didn't, their approach to get within range uneventful. "I'm gonna try to bait it over the Sky Pillar directly! Hold on tight - this might get a little rough!"

Miyako's tingling sensation would mutiply as the shockwave of a BUG BUZZ flew toward the fairy-type, the Flygon's wings almost completely disappearing from how fast they were fluttering. Josh's hair stood on end, too; unlike Shalin Nariya , he wasn't fully used to such strong vibrations.

miyako squeezes her legs around vert's sides, barely managing to contain her excitement as they take off. she's never felt anything like this before; it's like she's flying on the back of a jet engine, the wind whipping through her hair and the tingling sensation running up her spine.[break][break]

when vert puts on an extra burst of speed, miyako lets out a whoop of joy, feeling like she's on the back of a motorcycle. this is the most alive she's ever felt![break][break]

she watches with bated breath as josh baits the togekiss over the sky pillar, leaning forward in her seat to try and keep up with vert's movements. when the bug buzz hits, miyako's whole body feels like it's vibrating, her teeth chattering and her hair standing on end.[break][break]

but she doesn't care. she's having the time of her life.[break][break]

as they get closer to the togekiss, miyako raises the quick ball, ready to throw it. "come on," she mutters under her breath, her heart pounding in her chest. "just a little closer..."[break][break]

when they're finally within range, miyako throws the quick ball with all her might, watching with bated breath as it arcs through the air towards the fairy-type. "please, please, please," she prays aloud, her hands clenched into fists.[break][break]

the quick ball hits the togekiss and absorbs it instantly, dropping to the ground with the weight of a feather. miyako lets out a cheer, pumping her fists in the air as they start to descend. "holy shit!" she exclaims, grinning from ear to ear. "did you see that?!"
