Swift and Palkia had once clashed with one another behind illeana reyes ' lab. Despite the Spacelord being a water-type and the Raikou being electric-type, the legendary battle could not have been more one-sided. The powers of Avatar and Patron working together seemed limitless. While a rematch of sorts was part of the reason Josh had returned to her lab, it was not the primary reason. Despite having raised Aleph with care for over a year, the Type: Null was still incredibly disobedient except in battle.

Perhaps the Head Scientist could tell the Gym Leader more about the history of the species, why it was so violent, and what he could do to rein the Pokémon in. Raikou, his Raging Bolt, craned his neck and pushed the front gate's buzzer for the paradox's rider. Having a long neck sure was handy at times!

the buzzer comes at a time where she's almost grateful for the distraction... anything to stop pouring herself into six or seven different reports of the same instance.

Josh was happy to see that the Head Professor was in a cheerful mood. "Great to see you again, too!" the Raging Bolt's rider waved, the paradox Pokémon craning his neck to greet illeana reyes with a purr that sounded like a distant rumble of thunder. Once the gate had been swung open, the Gym Leader followed the woman to the entrance of the building containing her office before dismounting from the Raikou-like Pokémon.

While they were on the way to the Alchemist's office space, Josh talked about his progress. "My rehab's on its final stages. I'm able to ride Swift, my Raikou, under supervision now. Next month, I'm going for my first Quick Attack with him. I'm missing just a little motion in my left arm, but I'm sure we'll be working on that then. When I had my arm smashed in that jail, I never thought I would recover." With how much internal trauma the racer had suffered, it was a small miracle he had gotten so far and that he would be able to ride again at the speeds he loved.

If the ceiling was high enough and there weren't too many obstructions, Josh would leave Raikou out of his Poké Ball; otherwise, he would withdraw the legendary-adjacent paradox and let Illeana lead him to her office alone. "Only if I push my movement beyond what I've been used to, but that's just part of rehab," the Leader answered. "The prize at the end is well worth it." That being the Quick Attack. While it would be under the supervision of Josh's other fast Pokémon, the anticipation of racing the ashen vestige made his skin tingle just thinking about it.

"I've got a few things on the itinerary," Josh mused while they were in transit, his mind swirling with questions to ask the researcher. "They're mostly to do with Swift, the Hoennian Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, and rehabilitating a Type: Null." Perhaps the Alchemist would be able to at last set Josh's understanding of the ancient trio straight with recent advancements in knowledge...!
