The Border was ever familiar to Josh, but perhaps not to the general public... given how much the League seemed to want to keep civilians away from it. It was sensible Vespa would know next to nothing about it. "It's where restless souls go after the body harboring them dies. Oftentimes, they need help passing on to the afterlife. I visited several of my dead coworkers there, as well as kyle lopez when he died at Mount Chimney," the Gym Leader explained, thoughts of the late Top Champion coming to mind. His first Gym Challenger, a mentor figure, and one of Hoenn's greatest war heroes. "There are spirits of legendary Pokémon that roam there and are dangerous to engage with. I can name at least five."

Vespa seemed easily distracted by the Pokémon haunting the tower, though Drifblim was a great Pokémon for a novice rider. They could use their four arms to form a seat for a rider to sit in, almost like being in the basket of a hot air balloon. Josh had one, too, and was working on helping the ghost-type control their Tailwind so they wouldn't be at the mercy of the natural wind. "I was asking if you've been to the top of the Sky Pillar before. If you haven't and want to go up there, hop on!" The Dragapult may have been an intimidating-looking ride, the draconic spirit's great speed and ability to go ethereal well-known...

There is a brief moment of confusion when Josh mentions kyle lopez, thinking back on whether or not that private investigator name shared the same - and she has to say she isn't that good in contemporary history, so really, who even knows who the major of Slateport is? -, though she must be pretty mistaken. Nah. Nothing to worry about for sure. "Uh ... that's rough," she can only find the words familiar to her to say, scratching the back of her head. "I ... hope they're well? Despite the strange location, I guess." Was that a right thing to say? Proooobably not ... very likely not. But perhaps, there are no more words that haven't been said already to someone as Josh, who seemingly has been going through it at the hands of life, and fate again.[break]

To be honest, thinking about that strange place also evokes the memory of one strange fellow ... "... Gimmighoul," she mutters under her breath before shaking her head. "Oh? Yeah. Yeah ... that place seems to be full of strong spirits only intending to get stronger," she returns. She could think of one specimen in particular.[break]

Still, her attention isn't always fully there, riding in circles, watching as the surroundings is ever-changing with the Pokémon at hand, and as she catches sight of a Phantump, she just has to battle and catch it, bringing forth a Gastly-looking Hisuian Zorua forth, "Fuyue, let's go for a Shadow Sneak!" And once she manages to throw a Pokéball at it, she turns back to Josh, shaking her head. "Uhm ... not really? What is up there?" she wonders out loud, though there is a curiosity in her head as she watches the Dragapult. A dual Ghost type ... and one she will probably eventually have, with the way her Drakloak should evolve into one. "You wanna tag along, bud?" she asks the Roaring Moon who only stares back at her with a shrug. "Well ... let's go!" Thus, she mounts the Dragapult.

Vespa's words reminded Josh that he hadn't been to the Border to check on Kyle in a while. "His soul is strong. He won't be consumed by the Border," Jose replied amidst his companion's understandable unease. Talking about the afterlife was never easy. This was not the first time he had gone through heavy loss, nor would it be the last in the war-torn region.

Such was the nature of being a Hoennian Gym Leader. And now, Raikou's bearer. Was the weight of the Beast crushing? Yes. Was it worth it for the companionship of his childhood idol? Absolutely. The day would come when the Raikou would regain the lightning fast attack Josh admired him for. The stresses it would put on his body would be immense. Conquering it would be more challenging than even the Champion Assessment... yet he embraced the Herculean labor with open arms.

Once Vespa was behind him, Josh allowed her to get used to the long, swishing, ethereal tail she would be sitting on. "Hold on tight! Dragapult are among the fastest dragons in the world!" Once she had sufficient time to steel herself, the ghost-type rose into the air, Sidewinder's tail undulating back and forth, up and down. Dragon and rider flew at such a steep angle that it looked like they were flying directly toward the sky above, parallel to the tall tower beneath them. It was a feat very few flying Pokémon could accomplish. Were she to look away, Yuen would get a wonderful view of Hoenn's seas... completely tipped on their sides.

"That's - good to hear then," the young student nods, not quite sure what else to add. Her own experience in the Border is quite different, after all, more explorative and curious than having much else to do here. A place that she feels oddly comfortable, even, apart from the air that gives her a headache. But the more she lands there, the more she wants to know ... and the more she wants to go back, feeling drawn towards that strange place.[break]
[break]
However, this isn't the thing to be thinking about when there is a whole other challenge to get behind - literally, and figuratively, as she positions herself on the dual type. "Uh-huh," she can only say before it already starts - and only in peripheral does she catch how the Roaring Moon soars to the sky once more, though slower in comparison, thankful that it has - as it seems - picked up Fuyue in the meanwhile, taking their time to catch up with the extremely fast ride she has. And it's - thrilling, exhilarating, all in the sense that it's scary as heck. She can barely keep her eyes open, not quite willing to take chances except for one - small - peak ...[break]
[break]
And there is intrigue in the world around, all at once, as her mouth falls agape. But the moment comes and goes, and soon, they land on where they're supposed to land. "-woah! That was ... woah." Vespa cannot quite find the words as she stumbles on the ground, just in time getting a little support and help by the Roaring Moon with the Gastly-looking Fuyue that land a few moments after.

The draconic phantom's agility was nearly unlimited, one of the few dragons capable of flying completely vertical. It was an out of body experience for anyone who sat in Sidewinder's saddle -- almost like sitting on a heat-seeking missile as it bobbed and weaved toward its target. "Whee-hee-hee!" Josh whooped with the turns the Dragapult made, circling above the Sky Pillar before landing on top of it. Even Josh stumbled as he dismounted from the phantom, noticing a sleeping Ducklett on top of the tower. What an odd place for a Pokémon like that to be; was it displaced by an angry dragon Pokémon? With how much less oxygen there was so high up, he wondered if the waterfowl had passed out from having insufficient air to breathe. He tapped he helpless creature with an empty Great Ball before turning toward Vespa to make sure she was okay.

Provided she had her wits about her, Josh would take her close to the tower's edge. "This is one of the best views in all of Hoenn," he would point out, letting her gaze outward from the roof of one of the region's tallest structures. To the west, Mauville. To the south, Pacifidlog. To the east, Ever Grande. To the north, Sootopolis. One could see for miles and miles. The only better view of Hoenn one could get would be from the saddle of a dragon. A reason Josh had pushed Vespa so much to catch a flying one for herself.

Though Vespa needed a moment to orient herself, much is gained by the company of her trusted partners. Although it isn't like she has had any of them as long as she is looking after the Grookey already, they have grown on her in their own ways, especially feeling a chipper yet deep, sincere if mischievous connection to the Misdreavus that has taken a liking to nuzzle against her cheek, a twinkle of mirth in her eyes. And ... well. For as grumpy as the Roaring Moon can get, it still stands steadfast, probably reliable if ever truly needed.[break]
[break]
It's only after a while that she then joins Vespa near the edge of this wondrous place, overseeing so much that there is - her eyes looking especially towards Ever Grande, and wondering whether or not she would actually make it to this place one day. Maybe, maybe not. For sure not if she never truly got a start on it, anyway ... whenever that be. "That's ... impressive," she manages to speak after a while, feeling how her body slowly adjusts more to these heights, "how'd mankind ever built so high? Or is it even man-made?"

"Far as I know, it's man-made," Josh answered. "Modern-day evidence of how advanced Draconid technology was. You'd be better off asking freya morningstar about these sorts of things. She's our region's resident dragon expert." Josh may have seemed like a dragon expert, what with how much he flaunted his dragon Pokémon. Compared to people like her and Navy , he was far from it. From what he knew of them both, he expected that neither would approve of his treatment of dragon-types. He could feel it from the last time he had sparred with Vortigern. To those two masters of battle, dragons were not mounts or beasts of burden.

All of a sudden, Josh saw an emerald streak from the corner of his eyes. "What's the Skylord doing here?!" he shouted. Vespa would be able to see no sign of freya morningstar 's Patron anywhere close by. The sound of mischief coming from a Mismagius' voice clued him in that there was such a Pokémon in the ethereal nearby, instilling hallucinations that Rayquaza was nearby. The Gym Leader shook his head. "Sidewinder, can you take care of it for me, please?" With a nod, the Dragapult disappeared into the ghostly realm. It would not take long before he would reappear, along with the trail of an unconscious Mismagius wrapped around the ghost-type's wing blade.

Vespa nods, part in awe and part in surprise, wondering if she would ever even have the chance to encounter someone of the mentioned's standing - if her memory of Hoenn's list of currently famous people is correct, anyway. But she figures if ever there is such a thing, she has one more question up her sleeve to ask, and she is nothing if not full of questions for the what, if, and how of life. Or the why. Or the why isn't it like this, though? Questions that invite too many answers when that might not even be what she is seeking for. What else, then? Huh ... if she would only ever know. "Guess I'll have to get my research goggles on, then," she remarks with a grin - a mischievous glint in her eyes still, even though 'research' is hardly ever serious in her world. Maybe, one day, she would cram hard facts, but until then ...[break]

She does not know who this 'Skylord' is that Josh mentions, though she does notice an almost familiar presence as she notices the unconscious Mismagius coming into appearance - and before she can fully realise, she's thrown a Pokéball already, catching the Ghost type before turning her head to the other again. "Ah - sorry, I just ... it felt familiar, sort of?" She scratches the back of her head, unbelieving of how lame that sounded, but ... huh. Before she can try and say more, however, she is overcome with a sense of nausea, a dizziness that surges forth as she has to admit defeat in such heights.[break]

Supported by the Roaring Moon, she has to hold her head with the other hand, squinting and frowning a little, "urgh ... I think that's a bit too much right now. The - height, I mean. Sorry. Could we maybe ascend, soon? But ... uh, sorry, we didn't even find a Dragonair for you ..."

Josh recognized Vespa's symptoms quickly. He was used to seeing them from teaching people how to ride flying Pokémon. While height was not an issue on a normal flying Pokémon, dragons' wing and lung strength could propel them to incredible heights. Cold was one threatening element of soaring so high, but another was the thin air. With how high the Sky Pillar stretched, anyone who was not used to flying on a dragon routinely could have breathing issues. Hypoxia was a real threat for dragon riders.

"You mean descend, right?" Josh clarified as he withdrew his Pokémon for Verte, the Flygon's wings humming for a brief moment before letting the Gym Leader aboard. "The air is thin up here." He even had to put more effort into speaking due to his voice not carrying at higher altitudes. "Let's head back to the surface." With an insectile takeoff, the two were airborne, following Vespa Baskerville and her Roaring Moon to more breathable air beneath them.
