The two big cats accelerated at Lisette's tactile command, Zira building up enough speed to jump. Josh's head tilted toward the younger passenger after hearing her first shriek when the lioness took off into a canter, and again after the leap. The excitement on her face showed. "Having fun?!" Josh cried over the wind, the Pyroar making a great landing after catching the Armarouge in her claws. "They're all Ranger Pokémon, too. All eleven of them. They get loaned out to Mauville's Rangers pretty frequently." Were Lisette to look beneath her, she might be able to see the Mauville Rangers' logo, as well as the League logo, on the fire-type's saddle.

Even Josh was having fun going at the higher speed Lisette seemed like she was enjoying. "All of them know Double Team, too, if you're really feeling the need for speed," he bragged, swerving Nala out of the way of a panicked-looking Audino.

when josh calls out to her, lisette's eyes are wide as she tries to focus on him even a little. the speed, the juumps, the pokemon, the breathlessness of it all... she's at a loss for words. all she can manage to say at first is, "yeah! lots of fun!" [break][break]

at the mention of these fire-type pokemon being ranger pokemon, too, lisette looks down, and notices the logos for the respective organizations on the saddle. not only are these pokemon raised to be competitive, but they're helpful in a pinch. team rocket aside, anyone would be so lucky as to have pokemon like this at their side. [break][break]

and lisette's dreams are starting to blend with reality. she thinks she will remember the roaring winds and the sound of her own laughter, together with josh's voice, for a long time. "i didn't know that!" she yelps in reply. at the mention of double team, lisette hesitates, but only for a short moment. "double team! no kidding? yes!" she has gotten this far already — why not see them at their full potential? [break][break]

There was something truly amazing about sitting astride, and controlling, a Pokémon mount that could tear even large prey to shreds. Something liberating. Empowering. Was it feeling the rippling muscles as they worked while on the hunt? Or was it the wind in the face from being alight a feline that could outrun many equine Pokémon more commonly used as steeds? "It's not a move most Pyroar know," Josh educated her. "Surprisingly, as fast as these cats are, they can't learn moves like Quick Attack, Agility, or Extreme Speed." They could still run fast enough for a series of afterimages to trail behind them, which was certainly comparable to the moves the Gym Leader had listed.

Lisette seemed excited for Zira to really put on the afterburners, and Route 116 was one of the best places to do it. Were she to push the Pyroar to her limits with the speedy Pokémon move, Josh and his own lioness would also DOUBLE TEAM alongside them. Rather than seeing her own trailing images, the rest of the world would look like it gained image trails, the riders perhaps experiencing a sensation of hovering above the saddles they sat in from how rapid the fire-types' gaits were. With every stride, their seat would drop from underneath them, only for it to catch them when the hunter's spine flexed upward again.

It was why one needed a strong back to be able to ride a Pyroar, or any big cat Pokémon, at speed!

"i didn't know that, either." she had assumed all fast pokemon knew how to use quick attack and other similar moves. or, maybe it was more accurate to say that she never gave it much thought to begin with. but as she glimpses into the world of riding and speed, lisette realizes there is a lot about this world (and the pokemon in it) that she doesn't know. it makes learning about it all the more richer and satisfying. [break][break]

but before she can thank the master of faster for his knowledgeable truths, the pyroar use double team, and the world changes in a way lisette would never expect it to. whirling colors and faded afterimages, the wind practically leaving her lungs when she feels the saddle drop from underneath her, only to be jostled back into place when the pyroar's spine flexed upward once more. [break][break]

she would definitely be bruised later on, but it wouldn't be an unwelcome experience by any means. if anything, it reminds her of a simpler time in her life — a freer time. [break][break]

it's not something she'll forget anytime soon. [break][break]

Josh had opened another trainer's eyes to Pokémon competing in more than contests of brawn. The lion pride was more than capable of hunting, but that was not their only skill. That their running had been refined to the point where they could ferry humans across Hoenn at extremely high speeds, yet not crush their passengers' spines from their exaggerated motion, showed that Pokémon could do almost anything under a trainer passionate enough about their craft. Not that their extreme speed didn't make them a unique threat in combat; that they could ram and take down even large prey made them menacing on the battlefield as well.

It did not take much to appreciate a mount that could tear anything beneath its rider to shreds.

The pride would slow to a high, but much more comprehensible speed after the effects of DOUBLE TEAM wore off. "I'm headed back to Mauville," Josh let Lisette know. "If you need a lift back there, let me know; otherwise, I gotta take Zira with me. If this was fun, drop by Mauville Gym sometime! She's but the tip of the iceberg." Whether lisette bellamy accepted or not, Josh and his team would make their way back toward the big city.
