He offers a sympathetic grimace as Raziel trails off. He'd panicked over losing a single memory to ameena abadi's experiments, cried over the slow ebb of his memories of a false Galar and the daughter he'd never really had. He couldn't imagine losing six years of his real life.[break][break]

He kicks himself silently for feeling back for someone who'd betrayed him. This was such a confusing situation for everyone involved.[break][break]

"Any time," he says, pushing his misgivings aside. "And don't worry about it. I got dragged off to Hoenn shortly after you-" He almost says left, but that's not how this timeline would've went. He makes a note to ask THEO BECKETT for the finer details of the fabrication. "Well. After what happened with your dad."[break][break]

He hopes it's enough to leave it at that.[break][break]

"I remember all of my life," he says, adding a drily humourous, "unfortunately. So if you're curious about anything, just ask." Which reminds him: "You asked about my powers. So there's these people, Avatars, that have been blessed by legendary Pokémon. They - uh, we - essentially have superpowers? I know that's probably a lot to take in, but I swear I'm not fucking with you."[break][break]

Hopefully the SHADOW MIASMA was proof enough of that. He gives space for Raziel to interject, flicking his wrist to shift the fog and show that it's under his control.

"Yeah... Him" he merely mumbles leaving it that as it seemed Raziel was as willing to talk about it as much as the other was. The young man leaning back against the wall as his eyes droop slightly. The fear and stress from earlier, the mixed emotions of seeing Gavin and more has spent what little energy he had and the fatigue was hitting him like a rock.[break][break]

Yet he still listens at the explanation, head tilting as the smoke moves at the other's will, "So smoke bending is your power?" he questions tiredly still trying to wrap his head around it all.

Perhaps it was a mercy to have cleansed Raziel's mind of that absence. Cillian can't imagine living with the void that Lugia's absence would leave in his body, his mind. He was so acclimated to the flow of her corrupt infinity energy through his veins that it felt more unnatural without it.[break][break]

He wonders if it had been the same for Razz. Obviously, he doesn't ask.[break][break]

"Be pretty lame if it was," he says instead, laughing off his internal discomfort. "The miasma does more than make me look like a B-movie villain. It powers up my Shadow Pokemon, and me. And it's not the only thing I can do."[break][break]

The veins of his left arm pulse deep purple, the colour seeming to bleed from the spidery lines of a circulatory system and darken to the colours of void, creeping up his wrist and swallowing his hand. Umbral claws flex with none of the stiffness his fingers had shown.[break][break]

"It's easier to do when I'm... heightened," he admits. "Especially when I'm angry."[break][break]

It felt more natural then, more like breathing. But he was getting better at making his powers bend to his will, even if it was slower progress than he'd have liked. It was like exercising a new muscle. Sometimes that muscle operated of its own volition, his aura reacting faster than he consciously could to protect him in dangerous situations.[break][break]

"I can turn Pokémon against their trainers, too."[break][break]

He doesn't go into detail about the specifics, like how it only worked on Shadows when they were conscious but worked on just about anything once it was downed or dead. He doesn't want Raziel to know all of his secrets... just in case.

Raziel just blinks at him and gives a tilt of his head at the B-movie comment. Tired eyes narrowing slightly as if in thought about it, "Is it because you're blond? Though I'd think it need to be a bit more yellow for that," he questions momentarily as its clear he wasn't familiar with the term and thinking of a literal bee villain. The only media he had been allowed to watch had to be educational otherwise it was on the ban list for him. [break][break]

Though for a moment the tiredness leaves him as Gavin performs his 'powers' and unconsciously he just tries to sink more into the wall as one hand moves to his Bulbasuar as if it could protect him. It was a mix between cool but also creepy. There is that paranoid voice that reminds him that higher ups didn't always need a reason for their actions. He tries to think that this was just a demonstration, yet that lingering feeling that Gavin might still have a problem with him now prodded him. [break][break]

Raziel's literal interpretation goes right over Cillian's head, leaving him confused. His brows knit together as he frowns, trying to process. What did the colour of his hair have to do with anything?[break][break]

It's much easier to answer the other question.[break][break]

"No. You'd be able to tell if I was."[break][break]

It was hard to conceal his rage, these days. His veins turned dark, his eyes deep violet. His entire visage shifted beneath the corruption of his aura. To change it consciously was not so simple.[break][break]

He is conflicted on how to feel about Raziel's presence in Rocket, in his life, but he is not angry. Not any more. He'd dealt with the anger in the privacy of his waterlogged home, the sunken ruins of the life he'd built with Temp. Now, he felt only tired.

Shoulders slump as he visibility relaxes at the answer, his body becoming more tired at the sudden released stress. Part of him wants to ask the Underboss if he could just rest but he fights it. It's not his place he's there to serve their wimps not the other way around. [Break][break]

There was a higher key...[Break][break]

"So then Doctor professor Milaro, his short term memory clearly not working at 100% given the name already. "Shadow pokemon... Are they like the experiments we tried to create in the labs? Or they more anomalies like Bulbasaur here?" he questions as he tries to keep himself awake for the other's visit.

"Just 'Dr. Quinn'," he corrects, with the tired patience of someone who's grown accustomed to being called the wrong name. "I was never a professor."[break][break]

There's no bitterness there. Not now, with the reflection of years. He might've led a very different life if he'd not been expelled from his post-graduate program in Galar, but there was no use dwelling on what could have been. All that mattered was now. All that mattered was Rocket.[break][break]

"We did more than try to create Shadow Pokemon." Oh, how he wished he'd been a part of the initial, beautiful project. All attempts to restore the Shadow Machine had failed. "But that's not the only way they've come about. I'd rather not overwhelm you while you're still in recovery, but I can go into more detail another time." His attention flicks to Bulbasaur. "That Bulbasaur of yours, though, they've taken to calling them Toxic Chain Pokémon. I've only got the one. I think ameena abadi has been looking into them, if you want a scientist that can tell you more."

"Quinn! Right, sorry sorry sorry," he repeats a few times as the grip on his Bulbasaur tightens as he's clearly worried about the mistake. "Its only been like... a week for me...?" or was it less than that now? He tries to think but he finds that difficult as all his mental strength is on trying to keep himself awake for this meet up. Its the first time he's seen anyone but Theo, and while he was upset at first he does try to provide his reasoning, "And all this is a bit much to take in..."[break][break]

He'd leave it there for now, as if sensing his nerves the Bulbasaur moves to his lap and mindlessly he pets them. The fog pokemon taking the spot that his Espurr used to have in calming him. It wasn't the same thing but the companionship was nice after so much had been taken from him. [break][break]

"Toxic chain huh?" he repeats curiously as he can't help but poke at the chain that was around it's black bulb. It gives a small growl but once he's back to petting his head it settles again. "It's Theo's though, he says he has a lot of them, its super cool that it seems to just give poison to things that are not," he mentions with a smile the other might able to remember that with the exception of the Espurr all of his pokemon were poison just like his mentor's and Raziel seems interested in following suit once again. [break][break]

"Uhhhh... can I ask ya one more thing? I don't think gonna be able to stay up fer too much longer," he mumbles the way his words might sound to slur probably shouldn't be

It's eerily reminiscent of Kanto, the way he'd comfort Raziel about his insecurities. The way he'd kept his secret at the risk of his own hide in Rocket.

His neck prickles. He focuses on the mention of Theo.

"Yeah, it makes sense he'd be collecting them..." Theo was a poison specialist, after all. Raziel might've taken after him in full if not for-

He cuts the thought there. The more he thinks about the true timeline of events, the more likely he is to slip up. Without knowledge on how absolute Theo's manipulation of Raziel is, he fears a single misstep.

At least Cillian doesn't seem to scold him when he is getting things wrong. Though can't full gauge if its because he is already injured and it would be counter productive to increase his time there, or if it was because he choose not to run things the same way back in Kanto. He recalls Theo mentioning that things ran differently here in comparison to then. Right now Raziel just hasn't delt with anyone just yet to prove that statement true or false. [break][break]

"Yeah hopefully I can... get some myself they seem interesting, or at least get enough of a team so I don't have to rely on borrowing from him," he offers as he tries to avoid thinking of his old pokemon, ponders a only slightly on what kind of pokemon he might have used while undercover in the Rangers, before trying to settle on how to even rebuild. [break][break]

Once permission is given for his question he leaves all that for another topic, "I am uhhhh...." he pauses because he doesn't know the best way to phrase this, "I'm not used to doing nothing," that doesn't feel much better but it was too late to change it now, "I mean if I wasn't working in the labs I was cleaning them, if I wasn't doing that I was studying the workbooks dad gave me, if none of that it was either missions, training, homework, or just... something," honestly it was no wonder he was always so burnt out, "Right now though? I have nothing but the physical therapy the medics assigned and it just... not enough," not enough to keep his mind busy, not enough to keep his brain stimulated and not enough the darker thoughts at bay. [break][break]

"Is there something you can maybe give me to sort of busy the brain? Books or I don't know..." he's not used to asking for more to do

If there's anything Cillian understands, it's the frustration of an idle mind. He could not sit still in silence for long periods of time, lest his thoughts drag him into the dark.[break][break]

"My library was ruined in the flood." There's a note of sadness in his tone that breaks through stoicism. He'd wept over those books, collected over a decade. Rare tomes, first editions, romance novels... none of it had survived, destroyed equally by the rising tides. "I have a few books in my office, but I don't know if they'd be of interest to you."[break][break]

Fingers drum against his thigh as he thinks, then remembers something.[break][break]

"Mm. I do have a Switch you could borrow. Afraid it's not got much on it but puzzle games, but they're good to occupy the mind when you've nothing else to do."[break][break]

He kept it in his desk for those days when he was stuck in the office between meetings with nothing else to do.[break][break]

"I had two of them," he grumbles, "but the flood got that, too."[break][break]

He'd yet to buy another.

Raziel finds it pretty easy to sympathize with the other at the loss of his library. His own situation no better really on just how his life had now just been limited to what was in this room now. Another thought he'd rather not think of and thus why he wanted... no needed the busy work. He thinks of a joke at his own expense to possibly cheer the other up but he decides against it thinking this is probably one of those moments when you just needed to embrace the grief to push pass it later. He simply shrugs about the books, "I don't mind what it is as long as you allow it," he simply comments knowing that his father usually limited what he read so why would it be any different here. [break][break]

His eyes narrow in some confusion about some sort of switch, "How does a switch have puzzles?" he questions at first not entirely comprehending it as he was thinking a literal switch. Least until it actually clicked, "Wait like those gaming things right? Uhhh.. hmmmm..." he's thinking it over but he seems conflicted about it, "I don't know if I'm allowed that... I.. I wasn't allowed them before and I don't know how many rules dad has that Theo intends to keep and I can't disobey..." there is a clear tremble in his voice at the idea of disobeying. [break][break]

The first genuine wave of empathy breaks through layers of bitterness at the tremble in Raziel's voice when he speaks of his father. Cillian remembers all too well what it's like to cower.[break][break]

"Dr. Pryde is in Kanto," he says evenly, not allowing his emotions to bleed into his tone. "You're under Hoenn's jurisdiction, here."[break][break]

He remembers Walsh's warning in a meeting of the brass. Their loyalty is to him.[break][break]

His thoughts shift to Theo. "Beckett's always been soft on you." Old bitterness threatens, but Cillian swallows it down. "I can't see him having an issue with it, but you can ask him first if it makes you more comfortable. And I'll hand over the books, as well. Just give them back when you've finished with them."

"Unless I get sent back.... Theo says that he only stays away so long as I make sure to listen and do what he says when he says," Raziel simply repeats what's the ad-underboss' had told him when he woke up in his panic just a few days ago. Though aside from his final break with his father that was already what he always did. Listen and obey because that was how he was raised and conditioned. "He says that things are different here, but I don't really know by how much I think the uhhh.... memory thing is faulting me there"[break][break]

"Sorry," Raziel simply mumbles an apology as the other mentions Theo's treatment of him. The young man knowing that his relationship with Theo had been a problem with others. The day Theo took the other away from their labs for a bit still fresh in his mind. Either way he nods his head clearly terrified of any possible transgression against his mentor. Ga-Cillian might be an underboss too but as far as he was aware he was here thanks to Theo and as such his word held slight more weight. [break][break]

"Mind me asking what kind of books you have?"
