[attr="class","aurelie-lyrics"]From the dust returned [attr="class","border"] For better or worse, Aurelie had only ever explored a couple ancient ruins and tombs in her life, with varying degrees of success and enjoyment. However, she'd played more than a lot of video games and tabletop RPGs. As such, she'd explored plenty of imaginary dungeons—which, of course, weren't exactly realistic but were certainly always perilous and challenging—alongside many different fellow players.
But not even in her wildest, most implausible, most overpowered flights of fancy, had Aurelie thought she explore a dungeon with Jayden. In Dungeons and Dragonites terms, he was probably at max level, with impressive stats, jaw-dropping abilities, and an unbelievably powerful animal companion.
If this were D&D…or, I dunno, Darkrai Souls or something, I wouldn't even be worried, she thought. But this is Hoenn. Anything can happen. Those games have rules. Real life...really doesn't.
So, she was worried. But less worried than she would've been if she were going into a mysterious, trap-filled, ghost-haunted tomb with someone else. Or, Arceus forbid, by herself.
At the top of the dark stairway descending into the desert sands, Aurelie took a deep, steadying breath. "Well, here we are, admin," she said aloud. "I heard this place is the final resting place of one of those ancient god-kings who ruled over small parts of Hoenn back in the distant past.
"The library books I borrowed didn't have a lot of information, but they agreed about a few things about those self-proclaimed god-kings." The redhead counted her points off on her fingers. "They all claimed to be avatars of Arceus, they somehow controlled multiple Legendaries, they wanted to live forever, and they buried all their wealth with them when they died."
She took a few steps down the stairs, beckoning for Jayden to stay close. As they descended, the arid air grew cooler, and motes of dust danced before the flashlight beam that she flicked on and shone before them. Her voice, quiet though it was, still echoed softly off the walls.
"So, no reason why we can't claim some of their treasures for ourselves, right? Just as long as we can avoid the booby traps they might have set up too. And ignore the rumors that there are actual ghosts—not just Ghost-types, but real spirits—and curses lingering about."
On her other side followed the Calyrex shard. Hopefully, it might be able to learn something. Or better yet, offer some insight into the twisty minds of some long-dead, powerful rulers.
