Somewhere within the overgrowth of Route 102, Adrian tramples the grass beneath his feet, accompanied by a slithering companion. An Arbok at his side exacerbates a morning fog with its HAZE, allowing him to move around mostly unseen during the predawne hour.[break][break]

The old red pick-up truck moves into park at the entrance of Petalburg, the off-road wheels finally stopped, as Wyatt pulls his bag to the side, as he peers out the roll-up window, and pulls his shades down.[break][break]

Say your a Rocket without saying your a Rocket. Near the town Rocket took, Pokemon out, ruining his delivery plans and worse, he might be from Kanto, and might recognize Wyatt.[break][break]

"Got a delivery for a citizen here in Petalburg." He takes out his carrier satchel at his side, as he hops out the vehicle. "Mind if I pass?"[break][break]

Nobody should be running anything to Petalburg. It was Rocket's now, and this one was hardly identifying. He wears an incredulous scowl as he leers through the haze, gleaning little from their silhouette. They carry a satchel, not that it means anything—it was either a ploy, or the recipient had fled. That much he felt sure of. He places a boot against the vehicle, Arbok at his flank.[break][break]

"Yeah, I do—so why don't you turn this thing around, and head on back home," Adrian scoffed, gesturing to Oldale.[break][break]

Arbok licks at the air while Adrian stares them down, his fingers twitching with impulse.[break][break]

His boot is on Old Red. Any smarmy demeanor Wyatt may have had before disappears, the scowl deepening, as the dreaded snake sits behind him. A click of his tongue. On the one hand, he could turn back.[break][break]

On the other though... "Get your boot off my truck." The scowl translated into bile when spoken, like he was speaking with someone he already hated. Pulling his shades down, his eyes look the Rocket over. His satchel was at the ready, ball at the ready... and before the situation could escalate, he begins laughing, a hearty chuckle, as he waves off encounter.[break][break]

"I don't need filth on my ride." Not that one boot would fix the old beaten-up pick-up, that thing was a marvel to still be running. It was a piece of trash, but it was his trash.[break][break]

"Move. Before I break it." No fear, not even to the snake behind him.

And then came the GLARE. No matter how much of a staredown they had, a scowling staredown, a human isn't really equipped to fight a giant purple cobra. Hindsight being 20/20 unlike his eyes had him reel from the fact that, yes, he had now fucked up. PARALYSIS was a bitch.[break][break]

He doesn't make a facial expression, trying to stay cool under pressure, but it weighed down on him. His hand had grasped a Pokeball in his bag, but he had no means of clicking it. His body reeled from the shock.[break][break]

"You may have the advantage here. I can see how... persuasive you are. Respect." It's not complete bullshit. Rockets liked throwing their junk around, thinking they're big shit.[break][break]

"If you pull your boot off my truck, I'll think about it," 'if I could just feel my toes enough to take a step, I'd break your nose.' If only his mouth didn't get him into more trouble. That is such a red flag, he cannot hold his temper back. Especially with Rocket assholes. He has to always be in fucking control. Typical Wyatt.

It wasn't his first inclination—he would've liked for them to have turned away, no contest—but of course the League tries to break the line in any way they can. Petalburg was 'rightfully' theirs was surely the League's rhetoric...[break][break]

That was the thing about taking something. But nobody wanted to honor Team Rocket's conquest. Yet if they trickled trainers like this into the dragon's den, there would be nothing but little bones left of them, for all their troubles. Better to save their strength for the next big push.[break][break]

Team Rocket would naturally do the same.[break][break]

Adrian can tell the paralysis took hold, though whether Wyatt can break through it was another matter. For now, he seemed subdued, and Adrian was not pressed to take advantage of this lull in hostilities. It speaks to his reserved aggression.[break][break]

Like that, the Rocket does. He does just that, taking the boot off the truck, and Wyatt realizes he made a promise to think about it. Here he was, wanting to beat the shit out of this Rocket. His own ego got him this far, and while he's gonna need some ointment for that new crick in his neck, the whole duel de-escalated.[break][break]

He could press his luck, push a step further, and gas himself up to beat the Rocket's ass, but it almost felt wrong. The Rocket talked him down from his own anger.[break][break]

"You guys got smarter since I left. Actual Rockets with sense, how 'bout that shit?" he moves his hand, pushing through the paralysis, to grip the handle, and moving his way inside. "I was thinking of just running you over with Big Red here, but... you got a better head than most of'em, don't you?"[break][break]

He reveals himself as a former Rocket, a sign of respect. If he wants to push it after de-escalating, Wyatt will happily oblige now. But he's more than willing to let this shit sit without so much as a standoff 'wats up' dick-measuring contest.[break][break]

He starts his truck again. One more last look up to the Rocket in front of him.

He doesn't agree with them easily. If he was sharper than he looked, he might've never ended up in this predicament: Trying to scare off trespassers in Rocket occupied territories. Surely, the compliment was better spent on almost anyone else.[break][break]

"You could still try." He seems indifferent.[break][break]

Adrian can't be bothered with defectors. Everything and everyone was equally bothersome, until they made an even bigger ass out of themselves. Team Rocket would sort them out, and he'd do what was expected when eyes were on him—and only what was required when they weren't. He could let this man go, assuming he retreated back into the League's territories.[break][break]

That was unexpected...[break][break]

He almost regrets letting them go.[break][break]

Someone like that would almost certainly make themselves a nuissance again; he might've saved himself a bigger mess later. But his better nature had gotten in the way of that. Next time.[break]
