There’s a reason Eva hadn’t ventured too far into Ultra Deep Sea since it had been discovered. She certainly stayed away once it was revealed to be the innards of the poisonous ETERNATUS. Still, curiosity lingered, especially the further she dove into what had been documented about the strange ‘world’ and its precious resources. Eva still held her doubts when it came to Dynergy and allowing it to so nonchalantly exist and be used by the people when they didn’t fully understand it.

Standing here, now, in the midst of what feels like a poisoned heartbeat, her doubts grew even deeper roots.

The doctor followed closely behind Remiel, holding a tablet tightly in her hands that blinked what looked like a partially finished map. It was, indeed, part of their duty to help finish this precious resource for those that came after them.

She rushed to the Dundunsparce’s aid with an ANTIDOTE to clear it of its POISON. Her gaze slowly traced its way back to the oozing walls and diseased earth, “It certainly is a foul place,” she agreed, tucking the empty antidote back into the side of her pack. She, unfortunately, didn’t have an endless supply.

A white light flashed over the dark ground and a familiar Mr. Mime materialized between them. The fairy type immediately tensed and reacted how Eva had predicted. MISTY TERRAIN bleed from his palms, surrounding them in a healing aura, “Not sure how effective this will be here but . . . we’ll see,” she shrugged her shoulders. It was worth a try so they could continue to trek deeper into the unknown territories of Ultra Deep Sea.

INVOLVE THE POISONED CONDITION IN SOME WAY

The mist followed them as manipulated, gently pushed by the Illumina Mr. Mime as they ventured further into the cavern. Similar to Remiel, Eva didn’t have too much experience with Ultra Deep Sea. illeana reyes’s lab had been doing more of the research on Ultra Space and rifts than hers had. Rightfully so. Everyone had their area of expertise and Eva’s was certainly not the manipulation of space. Illeana had more practical experience in that department. It gave Eva more time to focus on other anomalies and unraveling their never-ending coil of mysteries.

“I’ve actually never been here,” Eva admitted, looking back at the Mr. Mime to make sure he seemed to be doing ok. No signs of being poisoned yet - must be working, “I’ve only read reports so between the two of us, that makes you the resident expert,” meaning he would call most of the shots unless she thought it was a ridiculous idea. Their progress slowed as the floor roiled beneath them; sticky, thick, and dynamic. Treasures began to appear. Eva scooped up a TM of unknown function and a . . . sphere? Best be careful with that.

Of course, it didn’t take a genius to recognize danger. The unfinished tunnel’s integrity seemed mediocre, at best, “I did,” her lips curled into an excited grin and she reached for a Dive Ball, “He’s a KabuTOPS now,” and when the sphere cracked open, a tall Kabutops materialized, standing at the ready.

The Kabutops joined the Kabuto at the mouth of the tunnel. Its scythes flashed in the dull, purple light of Ultra Deep Sea when it raised its arm. The metal scythes scraped together unpleasantly, making Eva flinch and cover her ears. The METAL SOUNDs echoed down the tunnel, rattling the structural supports to their core.

Remiel didn’t need to draw her attention to the veins. She saw them, felt them swelling beneath her boots. The taste of bile stung her throat and her stomach turned. Eva had seen a lot of disgusting things in her life - the profession called for it - but this was another level of vile.

A wave of unease hit her as Remiel spoke the worries aloud. The tunnel shook and the veins swelled even larger. She dare not turn around to see a wave of poisonous sludge barreling towards them. The archeologist mounted his Dragonair and she swiftly ran towards her Kabutops. She leapt onto the dual-type’s rough carapace and clung to a break in the armor for dear life, “Aqua Jet! Go!”

Azul shot forward after the Dragonair on a stream of pressurized water, carrying them quicker than the current of the flood heading their way.

He’s right, they aren’t going to make it. Eva dares to peer behind her, twisting while tightening her grip on the ancient pokemon’s carapace. The formidable wave of toxic sludge grows taller and larger even in just the brief moment she spares a glance. They aren’t going to outrun it.

Her mind races to devise a plan. Diverting it maybe? But how? What about blocking it, like a dam? That might slow it down long enough for them to make their escape safely.

Remiel seems to come to a rather reckless solution before she does. Even amongst the chaos, he has time to crack a joke which pulls a concerned scowl from the professor’s normally pleasant expression. It clicks in her mind when she LIGHTNING STILETTO flashes to life alongside the Electrode.

“BLOW IT UP?! Are you crazy?!” the odds of the entire place coming crashing down on them was high. Like really high. The tunnel's integrity barely held steadfast against the METAL SOUNDs.

It’s too late though, Remeil takes the idea and runs with it, “Step on it, Azul!” She hunkers down against the Kabutop’s exoskeleton and prays that the Shellfish pokemon can outrun gravity.

RAIN trickles down from the cloudless ceiling, no doubt mixed with the toxic debris. Regardless, the Kabutop’s SWIFT SWIM gives him the boost he needs to launch forward on a powered up AQUA JET. The two speed by Remiel and his Dragonair as the cavern behind them echoes with the loud BOOM of the explosion. The collapse roars behind them and reverberates down the tunnel like an earthquake. Instead of the thud of falling boulders, they hear the moist snap and squelch that reminded her a bit too much of rotting wounds and surgery. There’s no telling how much of the cave will collapse. As the ceiling above them shakes and cracks Eva screams above it in a ‘told you so’ fashion.

“I said don’t blow it up!!”
