Poor thing nearly gave Adrian a conniption as he managed to plant a foot squarely on its head, feeling its fleshy figure squirming beneath him as he shifted his weight, before jumping back out of fright. Maybe it shouldn't have been blending in so well, if it didn't want someone to walk right on it!

The pokemon gave a shrill cry before going airborne, its beady eyes narrowing on Adrian as it began to shed a swathe of spores, when it realized there was an Arcanine standing off to his side. Even as the rage powder began to waft, Arcanine's mouth shimmered with innate heat, pouring out from its maw a jet of flame that would sear the spores before they could have any effect.

Of course it began to flit away into the tree canopy, wanting nothing to do with this beast and its burning breath, lest the whole forest burn down around them. And with that, Adrian was able to move on with his little search for pokemon.

Continuing through the densely packed trees, Adrian couldn't see the Chesnaught taking aim at him for his trespass. The Skipbloom had been its friend since it was a wee Chespin, and he had just bullied it out of his way after being the one to step on it. A barrage of seeds came flinging at him, but Howitzer's ears flicked at the sound of the air whirring around the projectiles, and pushed him out of the way before it could impact with its trainer. "Waagh-oof!" Adrian exclaimed before hitting the earth with a dull thud. But Arcanine...

It staggered in place, not particularly wounded, but reeling from the amply placed detonation. Shortly after Howitzer would zero its eyes on the transgressor, the Chesnaught rummaging through the foliage as it pushed into the clearing where they stood, making its stand. It raised an arm.

But Arcanine was a hurricane of movement, flitting about in a flurry of movement before appearing at the Chesnaught's flank, its canine jaw parting only to let loose a torrent of flames meant to char. And that it did, leaving the Chesnaught with grievous burns as it lumbered away into the woods, never to return. Adrian managed to find his footing by then.

"Thanks girl," he gestured towards his Arcanine, calling her over, that he might run his hands through its mane in a doting gesture of approval.

And then they were back on the trail...

He was about halfway through to the other side of woods when Adrian and Howitzer became the target of an Arbok skulking through the grass, lying in wait near the edge of the brush, lunging out at his Arcanine as they passed by. Its elongated body entangled Howitzer, crushing down on her as its tightly wrapped body began to constrict her ribcage. Adrian had heard the bushes rustling, the drawn out hiss of a large snake, and the subsequent yelping and whimpering of his canine accomplice. "Howitzer-!" He panicked.

He'd almost rushed the bloody thing himself, then thought about grabbing a stick, before he remembered the other pokeballs clinging to his belt. Fishing one out at random, he set loose his Gyarados, which was poorly suited to the environment. "Get it off her," Adrian exclaimed desperately to Furor, whom lurched forward.

The Arbok had been so determined with its mortal coil that it didn't notice the leviathan until it was already caught in its mouth, its bite causing the Arbok's body to go rigid before it began to slip itself off the Arcanine to flee from Gyarados' jaws.

It tired to run away, the menace. But Adrian wasn't about to let it sneak back into the woods, just to try it again on another trainer or unsuspecting pokemon. "Furor, Thunder Wave NOW!"

Hearing the serpent's aggrieved hissing from beyond the brush gave him a certain satisfaction, but he still didn't feel safe. Plucking a pokeball from his belt, he'd creep through the bush to find where it lay paralyzed, siphoning it into the pokeball. Bing... Bong... BONK! Good as his.

"Howitzer, are you okay?" Adrian and his Gyarados, Furor, crowded around it to see if it was alright. She whined, but her voice was strong, so he had reason to be optimistic. "You're fine, girl."

But she had definitely earned a break.
