While settling in and making an impromptu camp, Adrian was discovered by an unusual remnant of the winter spell that had gripped Hoenn. An Alolan Sandslash, which looked to be absolutely languishing in the increasingly more temperate clime, appeared to be seeking him out with a purpose. "You don't look so good, buddy..."

Its beady black eyes stared at him, hesitant to approach, but seeing in Adrian the salvation it so desperately needed. But how could such a barbed, armed-tooth-and-nail creature communicate that?

By proving its docility, if nothing else.

Proving stubborn, the day went and passed with it standing at the edge of his camp. When it came time to leave, it began to follow him, which gave Adrian some warranted unease. But soon he came to appreciate its company, for what it was worth.

Even if only out of personal gain, it had voluntarily joined his crew. Adrian had little say in the matter.
