It's daybreak and she can smell the faintest hint of morning dew - even in the middle of the too-hot desert. The sand gets in her boots despite how tall they are, despite how high she pulls them and her makeshift attempt to put her pantlegs over her boots.[break][break]

"Is it just me, or is the sand more annoying in VR?"[break][break]

She groans, stuffing her hands into her pockets. With a glance over her shoulder, she waits with muted annoyance for her partner. They weren't late, she was probably way above early. But the sooner she got through this training session and got her loot, the better.

[attr="class","spiral"] Her partner will never arrive. Fernando makes sure of that as he sends them straight back to spawn. Another easy kill means another bundle of experience and MC. He looks over the player's drops before fitting them into his inventory appropriately. Damn was it satisfying to kill someone.

Unfortunately, he's not here for that. He only killed the other player because they attacked him first. Something about his reputation as a semi-famous PKer. What he's actually here for is a rare drop from one of the monster's known to spawn here. He needs it for a recipe he's recently acquired.

"It's definitely more annoying in reality."

Fernando keeps his pistol aimed at her but sends her a party invite as well. Enough play time has taught him that sending a party invite is the easiest way to disarm conflict. He keeps his gun trained on her should she reject it and attack him instead.

She doesn't hear him coming until he's already spoken. Perhaps she needs to take a look at her sound settings.[break][break]

The mage turns abruptly, having expected a different person's voice. This wasn't the partner she'd invited with her, and, now that she thought about it, their name was greyed out. Had they logged off?[break][break]

A new party invite pops up in front of her eyes, blocking her line of sight of the other guy. She clicks accept, offering the stranger an unimpressed frown.[break][break]

"You aren't KitKatLover, but you'll do, I suppose."[break][break]

She isn't here to PK. She's here for the rare loot and the potential boss spawn. Clearly this guy didn't want to fight, otherwise he'd have shot first and not bothered to offer her a friendly invite.[break][break]

"You look familiar, have we met?"[break][break]

But the time to chat soon comes to a grinding halt. The sand beneath her feet churns and she's thrown off balance, slipping and stumbling as she fights for balance. It's a losing fight as the pair of Drilbur DIG their way into her avatar's body. Like quicksand, she fights to stay above it.[break][break]

The mage reaches for her wand, the small object breaking the surface as she gasps a command.[break][break]

"FREEZE-DRY!"[break][break]

Ice shards burst from the tip of the magical item, the tool acting like a guide as the attack strikes the nearest spawn. The attack is fueled by her SHEER FORCE, and the Drilbur doesn't stand a chance.

[attr="class","spiral"] Whew. Another off-tank. Fernando's been quite lucky with everyone but him taking aggro between other players and monsters. He gleams on his good fortune by maintaining his positioning and picking off at the other Drilbur with a well aimed CHATTER. The bullet passes over Stormy's shoulder and lands a solid hit on the Pokemon's exposed stomach. It's rendered CONFUSED and kills itself right after.

"Yeah. We did the egg mission together."

He doesn't mention that he's also killed her as well.

The second Drilbur succumbs to its fate and Stormy breathes a sigh of relief. The fact remains, however, that the woman is still stuck in the shifting sand. Without the bodies of the Drilbur to continue distrupting it, the terrain begins to settle back into place. This allows her enough leverage to pull herself back up to the surface, no thanks to her partner.[break][break]

With a gasp, she flops onto her back to catch her breath, a look of irritation crinkling the space between her eyes.[break][break]

"Thanks for the hand up."[break][break]

Stormy gets to her feet just as another pair of burrowing beasts approach. This time, however, Stormy stands behind Fernando. She wasn't interested in being the tank anymore.[break][break]

Except it appears that the pair of them would soon be the victim of a SAND TOMB. Being buried alive together was romantic, right?[break][break]

Sand stings her exposed skin and she chokes, pointing her wand in the direction of one of the culprits. She blasts it off its feet with another FREEZE-DRY. It explodes.

Her sarcasm isn't as clear as it should be. At least to Fernando. But then again, he's oblivious, assuming her thanks was in regard to handling the other Drilbur.

When Stormy finally wises up to use him as a shield, he stares at her but pays her no mind. Dodging proves too much work and he prepares his weapon for their next encounter. Unfortunately, the SAND TOMB proves blinding, which makes aiming even more difficult. Fernando has to swaps his attack pattern to something a bit more reliable and a great spirit appears above.

It unleashes a torrent of AIR SLASHES and they find purchase along the Sandshrew's carapace. They also split through the SAND TOMB and it dies once the winds pierce through the attack's veil.

'You're welcome,' he says with such blunt conviction. He clearly hadn't picked up what she'd put down, which was herself.[break][break]

She shakes her head as the two Sandslash cease to exist, and with it, the sand tomb. They both stand nearly breathless and probably not as prepared, waiting for the last batch of minions to wreak havoc on them.[break][break]

For a moment, Stormy bends over to cough up what feels like a full belly of sand, pulling her hair back as she does so. It was sometimes strange and frustrating how realistic this game could be at the most inopportune of times.[break][break]

Two Claydol make their presence known, and Stormy is literally blasted backward like 10 feet by the incoming HYPER BEAM.[break][break]

"Oh fuck!"[break][break]

Her voice is muffled as she slams into the sand, hands scrambling for purchase as she flops onto her belly to get back to her feet.[break][break]

In order to help her focus, the woman lays still for a moment to CALM HER MIND, gathering her zen or what have you to turn around and smash the Claydol that had given chase. It takes a hefty dose of FREEZE-DRY to smash it to smithereens.

[attr="class","spiral"] Fernando does not share her disgruntled stance. He stands strong with his own convictions. The sand buffets him but his pride allows him to face danger with an arrogance unmatched. Even the HYPER BEAM coming his way is met with little fear. None of these attacks have any consequences and that makes him beyond fearless.

Aim. Shoot. Kill.

His ZAP CANNON pierces the HYPER BEAM in half and lands on the first Claydoll. However, the HYPER BEAM is not one to be ignored. Even if the ZAP CANNON splits it, the beam still continues forward and it launches him backwards. Stormy holds strong against the attack but Fernando is actually blasted into the air due to his disregard for the attack's ferocity.

"Hmph."

Knocked flat on his back, Fernando makes little move to pick himself back up. Instead, he busies himself with swapping his ammo. When he hears the click of the CHATTER bullet being registered, he rolls over, lining up a shot while still laying down before firing.

An EARTH POWER knocks up back up just in time for him to respond with another ZAP CANNON. His flying type attacks will do little against the rock based creatures so Fernando refers to his primary skill. It only takes one more to drill a hole into the Claydoll and end their exchange.
